NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Do they get a pint as an incentive to turn up on timeGrin

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 09:58

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum That is fabulous news!

I have been trying to work out what might, or might not, happen with vaccine passports. I have, like all of us, not much going on and hence keep obsessing over whether we'll manage to get away on our long awaited trip in August.

I'll be due my first vaccine soon-ish (Type 1 diabetic) and DH will have, hopefully, not hugely long after (he's 50.) So, we'll be okay but what about our DS? He's under ten so obviously won't be able to have one!

Not letting kids abroad would be a bit bizarre, but how would they control potential infection from kids in countries that haven't vaccinated many of it's population yet?

We have a Plan A and a Plan B for when we are away (basically ditching a smaller journey in the middle) and one country is due to start hopefully vaccinating in the next 6 weeks but it's a BIG place so I'm not convinced they'll have managed to make a significant dent. The other country probably won't have any vaccine until at least June.

*No idea why I am being coy about it, we are due to fly to Thailand and then head over to Cambodia, but think we might be more likely just staying in Thailand instead of having a couple of days there at the start and the end. Both places rely heavily on tourism, especially Cambodia, so I would think they'd want the likes of me and DH but not potential risk from the likes of DS...?

Aztectrousers · 06/02/2021 10:39

JemimaPyjamas I think there are just too many unknowns at the moment and whether the vaccine does indeed prevent transmission will be a big factor.

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 10:54

There's growing evidence that it does definitely have an effect on transmission which is a huge advantage (with everything not just holidays!)

Hence me back onto thinking that holidays and other aspects of normal life won't be as far off as we maybe thought a while back.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2021 12:44

DH had has vaccine this morning. He had the Oxford AZ one.

Frazzled2207 · 06/02/2021 12:49

@JemimaPyjamas
As no vaccines are licenced for use in children I can't see how any country can make a vaccine a condition of entry for children. Plus they are known to not spread it as much. You may or may not have your holiday but I don't think the (non-) vaccination of children will be a factor. At least not this year. I can't see family-holiday-friendly places like Spain insisting that children are vaccinated before you can come in.

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 12:52

No, I can’t either! Maybe under a certain age will be exempt, or they’d have to have a negative test. It’s all new territory!

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 12:53

Pleased for your DH @FuzzyPuffling!

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 12:57

Yay great news @FuzzyPuffling

I’m really hoping for a summer holiday as well @JemimaPyjamas I feel optimistic 😊

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/02/2021 13:05

I moved a holiday from last year to Easter, not hopeful that its going to go ahead. The holiday company have suspended all holidays up until 2 days before we are due to go. 😫

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2021 13:09

Because of DH's illness, we haven't had a holiday since 2013.
Our dream is to go and see the Northern Lights. Maybe one day soon?

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 13:10

I haven’t cancelled my flight to USA for Easter - I’m working up to it - or they’ll be cancelled by BA ....

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 13:10

I go from optimistic to thinking we’ve got ahead of ourselves, but at the moment things seen to be getting better all the time. I also really think that the world needs to start getting back to normal in many respects particularly in industries such as tourism as so many are dependent.

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 13:11

Plus, more selfishly, it’s one of the few things I have to get excited about at the moment!

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 13:18

I agree @JemimaPyjamas holidays are our indulgence- not too bothered about meals out/ pubs.

🤞🤞 for summer.

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/02/2021 13:20

I'm expecting it to be cancelled and wouldn't be that bothered but I'd want more than the 3 days notice we had last year - especially if negative tests are required

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 13:38

@FuzzyPuffling I hope you get to go soon.
@InterfectoremVulpes I think I might cancel beg of March. Like you, last minute doesn’t work for me especially as I could do with losing a stone (and a half) although I still had 2 (!) croissants this morning 😳

JemimaPyjamas · 06/02/2021 13:43

August seems ages away but not quite long enough IYSWIM.

Easter may be more dicey but then again, who knows! Where are you going? Some places are already opening up if you’ve had the vaccine (although I suspect there won’t be a mad rush of tourists trying to book Romania, but it may be a different story with Cyprus and the Seychelles.)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/02/2021 14:13

Fuzzy wonderful news. So pleased for your DH. How is George?

alreadytaken · 06/02/2021 14:23

Always good to hear of more vaccines being given.

And for anyone who for whatever reason cant have a vaccine news of a possible treatment, although I dont know how they will be able to conduct bigger trials. www.cityam.com/israeli-hospital-says-it-may-have-found-covid-19-cure-as-all-treated-patients-make-full-recovery/

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 15:11

@JemimaPyjamas Florida, I’ve also flights booked for July, it’s July I’m hopeful about. I know (deep down) the Easter holiday won’t happen. But maybe we can meet outside by then, hot cross buns, daffodils and chocolate rabbits to share 🤞

BunsyGirl · 06/02/2021 15:14

Our Easter holiday has been cancelled for the second year in a row but I am trying to remain positive and now looking at booking something for the last two weeks in August!

Yiayoula · 06/02/2021 15:31

Oooh - just had text from GP surgery inviting me for my vaccination on Friday ( over 65 cohort ).
Fingers crossed we may get to Cyprus to see DD, DSIL and grandchildren this year ...!

alreadytaken · 06/02/2021 15:56

An additional 403,577 vaccinations have been reported over the past 24 hours in England.

An overall total of 10,302,620 in England.

AfterEightAnyTime · 06/02/2021 16:05

Ddad just on his way for his first vaccination Smile
