NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2021 16:32

Oh and George report - he went out for a couple of hours this morning (I hoped it might encourage him to have a wee as he didn't want to use the litter tray) and he's now sleeping peacefully on our bed. And has had quite a bit to eat. I have to get medicine down him later..wish me luck!

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2021 16:44

Madison I'm so pleased for you and your son! Good news indeed.

And indeed for anyone else and their nearest and dearest getting vaccinated.

It's incredible how well we're doing with this - also notice that USA is now up to 11% which is great.

That's great to hear about your Dh @FuzzyPuffling and delighted for everyone else who's heard or has had theirs or relations have Grin

So did George do a wee outside? Could you monitor it Fuzzy?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 18:07

Just in case anyone sees this headline or similar:

Israel's vaccine 'magic' wipes out Covid cases as second doses of Pfizer jab take hold - but results show first dose alone isn't 'very effective' in blow to Britain's strategy to delay second injection

Pigging media are ridiculous and misleading. This is the actual quote from the expert in charge of the research they are referring too:

'We see that immediately after the second dose the effectiveness jumps,' Prof. Aran said. However, he noted that this could be because it takes time for the first dose to work - believed to be around two weeks.

tobee · 06/02/2021 18:20

I just read that headline Truely and thought "yeah that's just the Daily Mail going for scare tactics. I bet it's more nuanced than that."

We're going to need a new thread soon.

Can't monitor George's outside wee, but his tummy isn't distended, hard or painful as it was before. He's just had tonight's medicine. He's looking tired and a bit wobbly.

I love how this thread has Vet News as well!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 19:06

Glad George is on the mend. Hopefully a good nights sleep will help him.

Did you have fun with the medicine 😂

tobee · 06/02/2021 19:27

I haven't had a cat in years (allergic Dh) but remember the vet saying just wrap the cat in a blanket. Yeah that worked! 😏

FuzzyPuffling · 06/02/2021 20:10

He's looking poorly again and is hiding under the chair. Hope it's just because he's tired and fed up. He always seems perkier in the morning. The medicine was mixed in with his food and he scoffed it down. There's very little that a Lick e Lix won't solve.

Hope he feels better in the morning fuzzy

Liking the Lick e Lix as a panacea idea.
I wonder if there is scope for creating an oral Covid vaccine and hiding it in a human equivalent Grin

(Joke - I know that crosses all sorts of ethical lines!!)

Pomegranatespompom · 06/02/2021 21:09

Sorry he’s looking poorly again. Hope medicine starts to help v soon.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Anyone have a prediction of how many cases we will have a day by 22nd February

I think that will dictate the opening up plan. Along with hospital admissions of course

I did a very very rough calculation based on the current daily growth rate predictions -5% to -2% If the number of daily cases (18262) reduced by 2% each day then there would be about 13000 per day on the 22nd which is still quite high. If it reduced by 5% each day then it would be more like 7500 on the 22nd which is more like it.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/02/2021 14:11

I have been thinking around 10k give or take. Your calculations sound fair. Obviously it would still be high but not so much they would delay opening up to much longer. I think.

The cases would be lower by the 8th March then lower still by end of March. I think we could get a few things relaxed then.

MarshaBradyo · 07/02/2021 20:47

I just saw this on another thread. Really nice to read

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-uk-vindicated-over-brave-decision-to-delay-second-vaccine-dose-who-official-says-12211550

Dr Nabarro told Sky News: "The advice of the World Health Organisation on intervals between vaccine doses was based on what the manufacturers did in doing what we call the phase three trials of the vaccine and WHO and its committees really has to work on the basis of what manufacturers have told them - but isn't it wonderful that it has turned out, as a result of the UK's bravery frankly, that these extended intervals seems to be associated with greater protection."

He added: "So, yes, I think the UK's approach so far as been vindicated and yes, it has taught a great lesson for the rest of the world. Thank you, thank you British scientists."

Furries · 08/02/2021 00:33

@MarshaBradyo - that’s a good one, thanks! Just FYI, think most people have already hopped over to Thread 9 (linked a few posts up). In case you think you’re sat here talking to yourself!

HelloMist · 09/02/2021 23:43

Not good news but it made me laugh! Posting in case someone else needs a smile.
