NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

The first thing I do in the morning is check this thread. These latest links have really set me up for the day!

ArianaVenti · 05/02/2021 06:47

Thanks PPs for the text - i haven't managed to find what i was looking for but i did go down a very interesting rabbithole about how ucl are doing their covid modelling!

inews.co.uk/news/politics/government-didnt-stop-covid-19-deaths-boris-johnson-claim-british-public-poll-859109

In the guts of this article, a poll of 1700 adults suggests that only 9% are certain that they will reject the vaccine.

tootyfruitypickle · 05/02/2021 07:07

Great list of positives this morning! I'm struggling to keep 'up' this week which isn't like me so have read through the links assiduously!! Think once we're a bit more ahead in the vaccinations and we have a confirmed school date return I'll feel we are turning a corner for sure ! Both those things should happen within a month Smile

alreadytaken · 05/02/2021 07:59

London has more young people and less old people than most of the country so it can reach a lot of the vulnerable while still vaccinating less than the rest of the country.

Once the vaccine refusers see the vaccinated have not grown a tail/starting buying Microsoft products/whatever else their tiny brains imagine take up of vaccines may increase even further. Plus some studies count as vaccine refusers people who are not able to have the vaccine currently or are pregnant and may prefer it later.

More of my older relatives have slots booked for vaccination, including the biggest doom merchant who kept insisting it would be March at the earliest and is booked in next week.

@Mablefly

I've never done a link before but there is a very positive summary of reasons why we should be hopeful on the BBC news home page this morning Smile

This made me feel quite emotional!
FuzzyPuffling · 05/02/2021 08:34

Oooh oooh I used to work ( fairly distantly) with Karl Friston and his department Bragging rights?
Fabulous news all round. It really feels like we're beginning to win now.

And George cat is suddenly and dramatically a lot, lot better. 😸

FourTeaFallOut · 05/02/2021 08:35

Glad to hear George is on the mend. Smile

FourTeaFallOut · 05/02/2021 08:36

And you definitely get bragging rights!

FuzzyPuffling · 05/02/2021 08:44

The most interesting job I had was working with the neuroscience researchers at UCL, turning science into English and getting it funded.

Pomegranatespompom · 05/02/2021 08:56

Yay re George cat.

Fuzzy I may know people you know (not to sound like the godfather !)

Pomegranatespompom · 05/02/2021 08:58

I love the pic @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum

Pomegranatespompom · 05/02/2021 08:59

Sorry missed @tobee screenshot - that is so cheery - thank you.

I knew when I saw the headline it would be a Nick Triggle piece- I continue to admire and respect Nick Triggle, the BBC's Optimist-in-Chief, so refreshing compared to James 'Doom-monger Gallagher and his ilk.
Welikebeingcosy · 05/02/2021 09:15

We are really getting there!! 15 million before next Friday?

Pomegranatespompom · 05/02/2021 09:21

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum where did you get that image please? I'd love to share.

FuzzyPuffling · 05/02/2021 09:32

Ooh pomegranate...John Hardy, Henry Houlden, Linda Greensmith?

Florelei · 05/02/2021 09:38

I feel happy this morning for the first time in nearly a year. I’m not exaggerating either. I can finally see a little bit light at the end of the tunnel. So that is my very own good news! Sorry if it is a bit self indulgent.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 05/02/2021 09:38

I feel that YABU to mention George without a picture Grin

Pomegranatespompom · 05/02/2021 09:41

Ahh no - currently sharing some lab space with people researching stem cells/ neuro from ucl (I'm a different speciality so I don't quite understand!).

CornishYarg · 05/02/2021 09:45

I reckon Nick Triggle would fit in well on this thread. I have images of James Gallagher commenting on Nick's articles with a load of "unfortunately", "I'm afraid" and "sorry, but we'll be in this situation for years" type replies!

Inastatus · 05/02/2021 09:56

@Mablefly - brilliant, positive article. Thanks for posting 😊

@FuzzyPuffling - good news about George. Was it just typical dramatic cat behaviour? Definitely need a pic!

FourTeaFallOut · 05/02/2021 10:31

If you have to take antibiotics following a vaccine, that doesn't screw up the immune response, does it?

Florelei · 05/02/2021 10:48

@FourTeaFallOut

I found this online - looks like it’s ok but it might be worth checking with your doctor.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/02/2021 10:55

Thank you for that link. I do need to ring, I was just seeing if I needed to power on a bit more before I made a fuss.
