@Frequentflier

Why do I even go on other threads ? ( I know why, because I am an idiot).
Ooh I just strayed into another coronavirus thread too (probably the same one!) I’m not making that mistake again.

I think most of us do this! I keep saying I won’t and then failing.

10m is fab news!

FuzzyPuffling · 03/02/2021 15:30

The Independent called the Ox/AZ vaccine "The Holy Grail" today, with over 80% efficacy with a 12 week dosage gap, plus the reduced transmission.

Happy Days!

Happy Days!

@FuzzyPuffling That’s great! When the doom and gloom media start reporting good news we know things are really on the up!

1990s · 03/02/2021 16:15

@tootyfruitypickle

Encouraging re vacc figs. Still no news on my 74 year old folks getting their vaccinations , must be any day surely !
Have they tried the link from here? My Dad is 74 and got his booked at one of the centres from that.
FuzzyPuffling · 03/02/2021 16:19

Apparently, if you have a 12 week gap between doses of Ox/AZ, you get over 80% efficacy, with a less than 6 week gap it's closer to 50%.

So Ox/AZ NEEDS a longer gap and is efficacy is IMPROVED by it.

Sorry about the shouty capitals- I know you lot don't need them but I am sick of the "Govt messed up by lengthening the gap" trope. Not for Ox/AZ it's not!

tootyfruitypickle · 03/02/2021 16:32

@1990s they won't as it still says not to without a letter, and can only get to gp led anyway . Think SE is behind, but there's still a bit to go until mid feb so hopefully soon!

louisejxxx · 03/02/2021 16:36

Yay, so pleased my predication of 10mil by Wednesday came true Grin

louisejxxx · 03/02/2021 16:37

Also the death graph looks like it’s taking a nosedive today! Still a high figure, but it seems to be on a steep climb down.

it does though the actual deaths reported is still above the current average which is very sad

The down trend on the cases is like a black ski run.

littleowl1 · 03/02/2021 16:40

I've updated the data on www.covidmessenger.com

We still have 310 "green" councils (falling cases) and 5 with rising cases.... the waiting is killing me.

I can't wait to be able to post that we have an all green table. Not there yet, but it's surely coming soon......

It's also important to note that the falling status is progressive, so to speak. My council was green this week and was last week too. The daily cases just keep falling. It's brilliant. We are such low levels now - and we were at such high levels before.

And this is the situation in so many councils.

For anyone who wants to check the latest number of cases in their local council or the councils across their county, just check the table on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage for a quick and easy snapshot....

This is our area SE London. I like seeing the decline

Got all my fingers crossed. I’m sure it will be soon.

louisejxxx · 03/02/2021 17:00

It is very satisfying to know that what we’re all doing is working.

The news has seemed much more positive today which makes a nice change.

TJ17 · 03/02/2021 17:16

@JemimaPyjamas that would get my back up too! I cannot stand people who have an answer back for any positivity! Also hate the way they talk as if they know everything!

CountessFrog · 03/02/2021 17:17

❤️ that ski slope!

alreadytaken · 03/02/2021 17:27

Just looked at the portal or a friend who doesnt do computers but is 70 next month (and not cev). It would have let me book them a major vaccination centre! We had discussed me doing a booking and agreed I'd phone them when bookings opened up.

They then decided to wait for somewhere more local - but it shows that including under 70s is going ahead!

JemimaPyjamas · 03/02/2021 17:38

@TJ17 yes, that's exactly what it was like! Dismissive and pessimistic, as if Oxford was rubbish and we can't get enough or afford any of any of the vaccines anyway. That kind of thing! Which is nonsense on many counts!

She's not normally like this at all but it was like she was talking to a naive fool who was inventing it as I went along.

tootyfruitypickle · 03/02/2021 17:41

Did anyone see Chris Whitty's response to a question in the briefing about being harangued in the street ? Absolutely perfect. God I love that man !

MarshaBradyo · 03/02/2021 17:41

Tooty me too

tootyfruitypickle · 03/02/2021 17:43

I feel like I need a Chris Whitty magnet on my fridge to remind me to be calm....

MarshaBradyo · 03/02/2021 17:45

I find him so calming too

When we had a health issue in family I had a top consultant I loved a bit. I always felt calm when he was talking to me. All fine in the end tg

Mousehole10 · 03/02/2021 17:47

My areas just dropped to under 200 per 100k 😀. We were in the original tier 4 seas before Christmas. Going in the right direction!
