@1990s I know that her work have banned travel till July, and she works in ventilation, and hence I think she has a lot of knowledge and experience.

The info she came out with though clashed with what I had seen, read, and, like I say, it wasn't just plucked out the Daily Mail!

I think everyone has an opinion, fair enough, but there was certainly a dogged determination to cling onto the gloom and refuse to take any other viewpoint seriously regardless of where it was from.
The determination of some of the doom around makes me think that people must be really in a bit of a dark place. I know when I spiral like that I am.

1990s · 03/02/2021 11:23

There will be some more positivity for us here soon, of that I AM sure Smile

starfish88 · 03/02/2021 11:31

@JemimaPyjamas if it makes you feel any better I have an international holiday booked too (admittedly to the UK rather than from) for this summer. As you said it's totally refundable and movable so I have something nice to look forward to. If it happens, and the speed of the vaccination program suggests it easily could, then I'm happy. If I have to postpone then I still have something to look forward to just a bit further away. The suggestion that all travel will stop for ever and holidays won't be part of the 'new normal' (🤮) is frankly ridiculous.

Earlgrey666 · 03/02/2021 11:33

@Welikebeingcosy Thank you very much, the link worked. I will try the exercises starting today Smile

Pomegranatespompom · 03/02/2021 11:34

@JemimaPyjamas she simply does not know so unfair to make statements so negatively. I think we’re going to be in a far better place by March. I work in the nhs and we haven’t banned any travel. I’m still holding out for my July overseas holiday 😊 I think we’ll be going.

MarshaBradyo · 03/02/2021 12:20

I like the new speaker of the house.

Welikebeingcosy · 03/02/2021 12:38

@Earlgrey666 oh great let me know how you get on we can encourage one another to keep going!

JemimaPyjamas · 03/02/2021 12:53

@Pomegranatespompom and @starfish88 that does indeed make me feel better. In some ways I feel positive due to the emerging evidence about transmission and also the rate we are vaccinating in the UK, but in other ways I am wondering if August (we arrive on the 1st) will be too soon especially as the country we are heading to is unlikely to have got very far with their vaccinating. It'll be started, but, like here, has a big population and the supply and logistics may be an issue. The other negative is DS who won't be vaccinated at all!

Saying all this, and referring to my previous point, I think the world needs and wants to get back to normal, or at least as normal as it can get. If a massive part of your income is via tourism, and you don't have any welfare state, there is only so long things can go on the way they are before the risks are indeed higher than complications or deaths from the virus.

JemimaPyjamas · 03/02/2021 12:54

Oh, and @Pomegranatespompom, she doesn't work in the NHS but for a company that supplies the NHS and hence most of her job is travelling around and training NHS staff.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 13:24
@starfish88 you can force all the positivity on me you like. I'm feeling a bit better seeing the number being so close to 10million and having walked past the local mass vaccination centre last night where the last few nurses and attendees were leaving whilst scaffolding was being put up- I guess to protect the queues from the rain. It made it feel real and progressive.

I had a thought and wondered if anyone on here would be able to give me a positive answer- anywhere else on Mumsnet and I'd probably be called a retard.

When I get my jab, will I be able to pass some of the antibodies onto my LO (who is nearly two) through breastfeeding? Would be so great if that were the case.
Firstly in case an8else is reading and interested. They have differently found pregnant women pass on covid fighting antibodies to their unborn baby

I haven't seen anything about breastfeeding. So had a Google and found this comment on an American public health site. Don't know what they are basing it on but sounds possible:

When a person gets vaccinated while breastfeeding, their immune system develops antibodies that protect against COVID-19. These antibodies can be passed through breast milk to the baby. Newborns of vaccinated mothers who breastfeed can benefit from these antibodies against COVID-19.

Welikebeingcosy · 03/02/2021 13:37

Thanks @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum I appreciate it. Hmmm I wonder if it makes a difference as to what age the baby is or they specifically only mentioned newborns because long term breastfeeding is a lot more rare in the USA?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 13:44

Probably only saying newborn to encourage and reassure new mothers

Though I think antibodies build up the longer you breastfeed. That is why they recommend to do it for at least 12 weeks.

I can't see that once your own body has built up antibodies and you have feed for few weeks it wouldn't be of benefit

Apparently the vaccine itself won't be passed on to the baby. So that is all safe. It was the reason I Googled actually. Just wanted to check it would be safe to have the vaccine whilst you breastfeed.

1o million jabs done :)

scotlandg · 03/02/2021 14:31

Over 10 million people in the UK have now received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine.

TheChineseChicken · 03/02/2021 14:39

Boom!

LetItGoGo · 03/02/2021 14:40

Brilliant statistic.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/02/2021 14:41

Brilliant. 10 million. Wow. I wonder how quickly the next 10 million doses will be rolled out? Less than 4 weeks at this rate. Less time than it will take me to go from thinking about tidying the shed to making a start on it, no doubt.

thatgingergirl · 03/02/2021 14:47

Good news on an autumn booster to tackle the variants. Sounds like it will be just like the current model for flu vaccinations.

Mousehole10 · 03/02/2021 14:58

Brilliant, looks like we’ll hit that mid-feb target easily 😀

Frequentflier · 03/02/2021 15:01

Why do I even go on other threads ? ( I know why, because I am an idiot).

tootyfruitypickle · 03/02/2021 15:02

Encouraging re vacc figs. Still no news on my 74 year old folks getting their vaccinations , must be any day surely !

This is wonderful news. I had missed it. So grateful to all the scientists. I could kiss their feet.
Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 15:13

@Frequentflier
Indeed I just hope that any boosters will be able to be administered to vulnerable people if not all of us before the Christmas/mid winter peak. But hopefully even without it you'd hope things to not be nearly as bad next winter. I really really hope so.

Furries · 03/02/2021 15:17

That’s great news! I’ve lost track of various posts, but last week someone on here predicted 10 million by Wednesday. 👏🏼
