NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Chris W was just perfect. Such a great role model. I really like him, and people who work with him, confirm he’s fantastic.

Frequentflier · 03/02/2021 18:00

@MarshaBradyo

The down trend on the cases is like a black ski run

This is our area SE London. I like seeing the decline

I am in SE London too. Wasn't looking at graphs till now but this is so cheering.
MadisonAvenue · 03/02/2021 18:05

The graphs look great don’t they!

Our county continues to drop but our local area has gone from dark blue back into purple again on the Gov UK map.

Frazzled2207 · 03/02/2021 18:23

locally we have just gone from light blue to dark blue again on the map BUT lots of pockets of green have just sprung up near me. Not seen those for a while.

Inastatus · 03/02/2021 18:28

Such fantastic vaccine news 😊 and thank you once again littleowl for the stats.

I must stop getting drawn into arguments with doom muppets on other threads!

louisejxxx · 03/02/2021 18:39

I love Chris Whitty, if he’s not knighted within the next 12 months then someone needs their head checking!

Oblomov21 · 03/02/2021 18:50

Chris Whitty saying we are over the peak is good.

But on the news, asking why kier stammer says 21,000 people still come into our airports daily. And still no hotels organised for those that should isolate. Disgusting that Boris hasn't organised this yet.

mrsfeatherbottom · 03/02/2021 19:43

My 77 year old parents just got a call and are being vaccinated tomorrow morning! I'm delighted.

DayBath · 03/02/2021 19:51

Just dropping in to say thanks littleowl for the updates, covid messenger is so easy to understand compared to a lot of stats sites.

My mom (71) had the Pfizer jab today. She had her heart set on the Oxford one because of all the current good news about it so she's a little disappointed. But surely all the things we know about the Oxford jab could well be true about Pfizer, but we simply don't have enough evidence to conclude it yet right? She's worried about the length of the gap between doses, but if it works with Oxford why wouldn't it work with this one too?

If anyone can throw some Pfizer positive facts out I can try and cheer her up with them. She is obviously grateful for the jab but the press have been very alarmist about the 12 week gap so it's not surprising she has doubts.

DayBath · 03/02/2021 19:53

Oh and to add to the positivity, it's not vaccine related but I fed the ducks today in the sunshine and welcomed all the geese back to the park. The spring bulbs are up and nature is waking up in full force, a gloriously positive feeling!

tobee · 03/02/2021 20:15

Going quite a way back upthread, but isn't the Johnson & Johnson vaccine cheap like AZ?

GrumpySausage · 03/02/2021 20:25

Can I ask, and sorry if its been mentioned already, but are they doing trials on the Pfizer jab to find out its chances of reducing transmission. Obviously the Oxford news is brilliant and I wondered if we'd hear similar news about Pfizer.

FourTeaFallOut · 03/02/2021 20:30

It's about £13 if I remember correctly but unhelpfully I can't remember where or if I have just pulled that figure out of mid-air.

tobee · 03/02/2021 20:33

Every time I hear Johnson & Johnson I silently add on "a family company" Grin

You must hear the adverts from the US. That's actually SC Johnson, no connection to the big pharma company.

Hurray for 10 million!
11 million by sat..?!

TeaInTheGarden · 03/02/2021 20:43

Does anyone know if carers who go into people’s homes are being vaccinated in the top 4 groups? I was assuming they would be (my step mum is one) but she’s not heard anything yet....

DayBath · 03/02/2021 20:48

Well this sort of answers my own question a bit. Found on the daily stats thread.

www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clinical-areas/immunology-and-vaccines/both-covid-vaccines-likely-to-be-more-effective-at-12-week-intervals-say-government-experts/

MHRA says they don't expect the immune process from Pfizer to differ to the Oxford one, so although there's no data to support it they expect the longer gap between first and second dose could improve the immune response in the same way it does for the Oxford one. Sounds good!

I do Johnson and Johnson no tears

Though someone said on last thread
Johnson and Johnson no tiers 😂

So that one is know stuck in my head too

amicissimma · 03/02/2021 20:59

I saw a non-medical bit of cheerful news this morning.

I spotted an ad in the paper for a Caribbean cruise on the Queen Mary 2 over next Christmas (2021) and noticed that one category of cabin was 'waitlisted'. So I went onto their website to see how many cabins were still available. Two. And one suite.

Of course we don't know any details such as whether or not they are reducing capacity (normally 2691), but I find it very encouraging that a substantial number of people are optimistic enough to pay a substantial deposit to book a cruise for next Christmas.

amicissimma · 03/02/2021 21:02

Oops, I got a bit carried away with 'substantial' there!

I’m not surprised to hear that. The way he dealt with the question about the heckler was superb. He is so articulate and a little bit adorable

From memory someone told me on another thread:

There was a small trial of Pfizer at the same time they did their main trials. That went to a 6 week gap. The numbers were not much different than the 3 week. A slight dip but as the protection of the Pfizer is very high that wasn't an issue. There was no hospitalisation or serious illness in this group.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 21:27

Domesillary carers should have been done with group one. She should talk to her agency. Get them to chase it up. There were definitely groups getting done the same time as the care home staff.
