This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

I my need to revise my prediction for the number of vaccinations we will be at by the time this thread fills up! The last thread lasted 27 days, this one has filled a page and a half in less than 24 hours so we'll be lucky if it lasts a week!

Blessex · 25/01/2021 14:24

@MaddieElla yes I agree. We ignore and move on. (Takes deep breath)

EdithWeston · 25/01/2021 14:26

It's helpful to use both figures

469,660 - fully vaccinated
6,353,321 - partially vaccinated (one shot)

In both those groups, some will have received the vaccine within the previous 2-3 weeks and may not yet have built up any protection, to the full amount expected

KittyMcKitty · 25/01/2021 14:27

@movingonup20

Brilliant, just wish my mum isn't insisting on holding out for the Oxford vaccine, my brother has promised to try and persuade her to book at her drs
I don’t think you get a choice of vaccine. I volunteer at a vaccination centre which are giving out the Oxford vaccine but you get what you’re given Smile.

I’m not due to be vaccinated until group 9 so I hope we can get through the list very quickly!!!

beggsie · 25/01/2021 14:32

Thanks guys - I gave my mum another nudge, and she's booked for her and her husband on Thursday - whoop! She still feels a bit odd about it, but it's booked, which is two more done by the end of the week. Thanks again!

scissy · 25/01/2021 14:35

My father is ECV and received his booking text on Friday - great! Except you can only book by phone in his area and it's been constantly engaged the whole weekend Hmm. They only started doing the over 80s in the last week or so where he lives (they were really behind). Our area was already on to ECV and over 70s for example when they started on over 80s. I appreciate this is a happy thread but i do wonder how some areas can mess it up so badly compared to others Confused.

lunar1 · 25/01/2021 14:43

What on earth happened to this thread!!

As of Saturday over 10 percent of the population have been given some immunity to this asshole pandemic. Mostly to people who are highly vulnerable or are working in healthcare.

There is a long way to go, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and our country is doing an amazing job with the vaccines.

When someone has their first jab, how will they be confident the same type of vaccine will be available in that hub for their 2nd jab, if you (general) don't know what you're going to be given?

Is your father under 75?

I wonder if the mass booking scheme is just working on dates of birth, so only people over 75 eligible?

I guess it's complicated to work out the under 75 but ECV on that computer system which is why it's being done by phone?

If he's over 75, have you tried the online booking system? Worth a shot x

HelloMissus · 25/01/2021 14:44

My
My mam was told which one she had. Ditto my auntie.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 25/01/2021 14:48

Come on people there are loads of negative threads to jump on , please leave this one as a positive one so some of us have something to hold onto.
You would all be spitting if we hadn't done any jabs at all, so take this thread for what it is .

Sunflowergirl1 · 25/01/2021 14:49

@gingeristhenewblack43

"Personally, I wouldn't care if they dragged people in off the streets to use them up. Every single person who gets a jab moves others further up the list and benefits everyone."

Believe it or not some have done that...including cops out on patrol. I just cannot believe they would throw them away...but apparently that was the instruction early on in the vaccination roll out and my friend told me they ignored it and just gave it to anyone over 18.

If these fuckwits at the Dept of Health do issue an instruction I for one will be writing to my MP. The vaccination programme is a bright light

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 25/01/2021 14:49

@myalternate my nan was told what jab she was given and I guess its on records ? But as she knows when she gets the 2 nd she can double check

lunar1 · 25/01/2021 14:50

You get a card with the details of your first dose and have to take it with you for the second where they will complete the details of the second dose.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/01/2021 14:51

You get a card with it on plus it’s in your notes.
Chasingsquirrels · 25/01/2021 14:57

My brother, who is in the last country on that list, sent my mum the attached (I have no idea of of source or validity).
Whatever mistakes the UK have made along the way (and personally I think there have been a lot), they do seem to be doing a good job of the vaccine rollout.

I'd also rather jabs went into available arms at the end of the day, better that than wasted.

6.3 million people HALF vaccinated.

Since when has 89% been half of 91%? Grin

buttery81 · 25/01/2021 15:05

Just came on to say thanks for the pp who posted the link for booking. DDad hadn't received a letter yet (75) but we put his NHS number in and he now has both jabs booked.

That is great news @actiongirl1978!

It is so hard to do that though. I worry someone new that hasn't read the whole thread will believe the doomster or uneducated.

Bluetrews25 · 25/01/2021 15:37

Thank you Blessex for sharing all the stats. I'm NHS and covid exposed a lot (not ICU so not the best PPE), I had my jab 16 days ago. So I'm 89% now !!! Feel a bit emotional !
Hint to all you going for the shot - it can make your arm a bit sore, like it's been punched, recommend you get it in the arm you do NOT sleep on.
So very grateful to all the amazing, brilliant, lifesaving scientists involved. And the vaccinators. Flowers Star

We're close enough to see the light at the end of the tunnel and know it's not another train approaching. Aren't we?

MaddieElla · 25/01/2021 15:53

It is hard and I’m the first to jump in. Blush

BUT the atmosphere on the previous thread a week ago was electric with positivity. And rightly so as we navigate our way out of this nightmare with a world beating (yes, world beating) vaccination programme.

Onwards! Grin

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 16:04

New figures are out!

First dose: 6,573,570

Second dose: 470,478

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 16:05

Not long before yesterdays data comes out. I expect it will be down of course - Sunday/snow combo. but it will still be more people safer.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 16:06
