This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

That's 220,249 up on yesterday's figures and we know that Wales and Scotland are not reporting at the weekends, plus the weather forced shutdowns of some centres.

LetItGoGo · 25/01/2021 16:07

I wouldn't have believed that total was going to happen just a few weeks ago.
Great news.

Londt · 25/01/2021 16:18

Can we please do the daily updates like the previous thread? With the new number (1st doses + 2nd doses) and total vaccinated to date?

It makes life much easier for people like me who can’t add for toffee.

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 16:33

Sorry @Londt, I got carried away in the excitement!

Total new doses yesterday - 220,249 (haven’t seen a breakdown of 1st and 2nd)

Total vaccinated with one dose - 6,573,570

Total vaccinated with two doses: 470,478

buttery81 · 25/01/2021 16:34

UPDATE...

6,573,570 people have now been vaccinated up to and including yesterday, 24th January 2021.

That's an increase of 220,249 on yesterday's figure.

I suspect the bad weather plus weekend reporting delays may have contributed to today's lower number.

However, it does mean that an incredible 1 in 8 (12.4%) of the UK's adult population have now received their first dose of vaccine. What an achievement!!

Oh no - I started a post, got distracted, came back to finish it and can see that I've cross-posted with about three other people! Sorry about that! Blush

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum yes I know it is hard when people come in spouting a load of negative bollocks when they clearly haven’t properly read the scientific reports. Anyway I have put them on this thread again and hopefully that will calm the people who want to read past sensationalism.

Yes @Bluetrews25 - according to the data - 14 days after the FIRST Pfizer jab you have 89% protection. That is super. Also these trial results also seem to be backed up by real world data from Israel Daffodil. I am counting the days since my mum and dad had Pfizer. Mum is day 9 and dad is day 6 post. I will breathe a bit more lightly when they both hit day 14 Covid free.

Deaths have started doing a weekly downturn and I cannot wait to see that now going dramatically down. It must do now.

OooErrThor · 25/01/2021 16:36

Such fab news - my Mum is due to have hers this week, which I'm so pleased about as she is clinically extremely vulnerable.

Love this thread Grin

TheABC · 25/01/2021 16:48

Thank you for the data.

At what point will the numbers indicate all the high-risk people have been jabbed? I will be so relieved when that happens!

Londt · 25/01/2021 16:53

Thank you Smile I wish I was a numbers person like you lot!

Seeing the increase in total number of jabs and the updates of 1 in 8 of adults now being vaccinated is helping to keep me sane each day.

BAM Grin

@TheABC the attached graphic should hopefully answer your question! They’re hoping to give the first dose of vaccine to everyone in the top four groups by mid February.

@TheABC

Thank you for the data.

There are approx 15 million people in the 4 top priority groups and the aim is to have them done by mid-Feb.

After that it’s the next 5 groups who they want done by end of April and after that it’s “everybody else”.

buttery81 · 25/01/2021 17:02

My parents are in group 5 - I’m hoping it won’t be too long until they get the call!

I don't care if I'm only half vaccinated 😀 far rather that so that more people can also get their first jab. Seems like a damn good strategy to me. As for left overs at the end of the day, they can give them to whoever they want as far as I'm concerned. The more people vaccinated the better.
Thank you for the positive thread, its cheered me right up finding it and the counter.

I would love to see data about how the jabs actually given stack up against those groups, e.g. we have vaccinated 95% of group 1, 88% of group 2 etc.

For no reason other than I’m curious/interested

PuzzledObserver · 25/01/2021 17:31

The daily briefing has just announced 78.7% of over 80’s have received at least the first which is brilliant!! Hoping most of the rest have their appointments and will be done this week,

Inevitably there will be some they can’t contact, or decline.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/01/2021 17:37

@CaveMum

New figures are out!

First dose: 6,573,570

Second dose: 470,478

Then the next groups 5 to 9 by the end of MarchSmile

We may well hit that mid March at this rateGrin

@Jinglealltheway22 he is under 75 but if def on the ECV list. They managed to contact him it's just the sign up which seems so bizarre where he is. Here (I have friends who have had theirs already due to age/healthcare workers/ECV) they were either assigned a timeslot or booked it online. Whereas he has to phone a line that's permanently engaged with others also trying to get through. However his area has been lambasted in the local press for not starting vaccinating ANY groups at all until a couple of weeks ago. Here's hoping he got through to them today!

Marvellous that is more than the original take up was expected to be. I think they were saying 70%.

I volunteer at a vaccination centre - he should be able to go into the National Booking Service and book an appointment at any of the local clinics.

Pootle40 · 25/01/2021 19:59

In laws (early 70s, no CEV) got their appts in the post today. We're in Scotland

In week after 2nd Pfizer vaccine shot, only 20 of 128,000 Israelis get COVID

Figure represents 0.015 percent of people, indicating vaccine is hitting 95% efficiency rate predicted by clinical trials.

among the general population, around 0.65% are infected in a given week.

none of the 20 vaccinees was hospitalized or suffered from a fever higher than 38.5 degrees.

@KittyMcKitty thanks, I'm going to contact him again as now I'm concerned he might have been caught out by a scam as he has been expecting to be contacted so could well be caught out if it was one Confused. Hope not, as I know the vaccination service have been using text messages to contact people but I'll make sure he knows not to hand over any money and mother's maiden name etc...
