6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@CherryRoulade yes but scientific advice has changed since Boris Johnson senior had his first dose. Please do keep up.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/02/2021 09:22

@CherryRoulade

One legged trousers don’t keep you warm. Puppies don’t go out until two weeks after second vaccination.

Part vaccination is not vaccination in line with international and manufacturers guidance.

No but apparently the weird one legged wide pantaloons that we have that you can fit both legs in keep people nearly 90% warm. And more importantly they are very effective indeed at stopping people being hospitalised or dying of hypothermia.

And don’t forget - some people are still cold even in trousers.

Ok - the weird pantaloons don’t look as good as Levi’s but when you are trying to keep everyone alive they do the job pretty well. Far better than cutting them up and giving half the people proper trousers and making the other half go naked.

And in other news.....

Cases fallen again compared to last week. Deaths fallen again compared to last week.

People actually administering the vaccinations have no idea of the National picture. Many are volunteers- not a bad thing - but that doesn’t mean you understand the PHE, SAGE or WHO advice, does it?

Sage and WHO both recommend the trialled intervals as being correct.

lurker101 · 04/02/2021 09:25

@Shehz21 Here’s a link to the BBC live reporting from that day, I’ve tried to link to the video clip of Matt Hancock speaking about the discovery of the SA variant, he’s quite clear that people should stay at home, but is calm and measured. I think during the questions he may have said that people in the additional testing areas should use food they have at home before going shopping, but I do think that headline is a bit scaremongering.

If the link doesn’t take you directly to the video clip scroll down to the section from 17:22.

@Mumoftwoinprimary very nice analogy. And given AZ did a population level trial of over 17,000 people and showed that 12 weeks is optimum time for second level dose, I am not sure what @CherryRoulade is banging on about.

Stop feeding the squirrels!

Hope someone is keeping an eye on the post count, we don’t want to lose everyone when we switch to the new thread.

Wonder if it’s worth putting something in the new OP about it being a positive space to celebrate the progress of the vaccination programme, not a place for debate about efficacy?

vodkaredbullgirl · 04/02/2021 09:28

There is always a party pooper.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/02/2021 09:31

As far as I can see cherryroulade is labouring points everyone else contributing to this thread knows perfectly well already, and then doing a totally invalid piece of arithmetic to get 5 million.Confused

Level75 · 04/02/2021 09:31

Relevant part from that link I just posted ".Vaccine efficacy after a single standard dose of vaccine from day 22 to day 90 post vaccination was 76% (59%, 86%), and modelled analysis indicated that protection did not wane during this initial 3 month period. Similarly, antibody levels were maintained during this period with minimal waning by day 90 day". Just a reminder that the figures quoted relate to serious illness/death. There's total protection (so far in data) from death.

Blessex · 04/02/2021 09:32

It’s fine. @CherryRoulade has left the Élysée Palace and is now reading The Lancet. We can carry on.

PuzzledObserver · 04/02/2021 09:34

@RhapsodyandAshe

Can we all just please ignore the doomsayer who is blatantly just out to piss on everyone's chips?
I agree. This is a celebration thread. Just ignore them.

On second thoughts, that might lead people who are new to the thread to worry, and then they would engage. So how about an agreed team response to any “it’s only half vaccinated” type posts, along these lines.

We are aware that changing the dose schedule is controversial, but we respectfully ask you to discuss that elsewhere. The purpose of this thread is to offer hope by celebrating the increasing numbers of people receiving vaccinations. Everyone needs hope.

And if they reply to that, just ignore.

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 09:36

Good idea @PuzzledObserver if that goes in the OP in bold text we can all copy and paste it when needed!

True we don’t know what happens longer term because we simply haven’t got there yet. But everyone will get 2 doses anyway.

Now, kindly link your “only 5 million doses not 10” theory as well as the “we’re only getting one dose” theory.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/02/2021 09:58

I’ve just been looking at the data and noticed that 2nd doses is at 498k. Which means that we are likely to hit half a million today. Grin

As these are probably a combination of our most vulnerable people and HCPs this feels like something to celebrate too.

This is a good idea.
buttery81 · 04/02/2021 10:21

It’s actually under 5 million. The government is now looking at how to message not offering second doses

Under 5 million - eh?

And what do you mean not offering second doses? My parents got the call yesterday to book them in for their first jab tomorrow. At the same time they were given a date and time for the second dose in April.

Bonkers comment Confused

@Frazzled2207 @buttery81 yes I fall into the trap. It’s too tempting.

@Mumoftwoinprimary yes that’s a great stat to now also start looking at

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 10:44

@buttery81 do you want to do the honours and get a new thread up and running with @PuzzledObserver suggestion?

buttery81 · 04/02/2021 10:55

Stats looking great.. One volunteer in our village said the very large centre wasn't getting enough footfall though so maybe they need to move to the next group (some days only 600 out of 1100 appointments).
