This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

Update...8,378,940 people have now received their first dose!

Not only are we comfortably over the 8 million mark, we’re 378,940 over it!!! Plus the number of people who’ve received their first dose increased by a massive 487,756 yesterday alone. Is that a record?!

Just fabulous!! Smile

CaveMum · 30/01/2021 16:15

Wowsers! My dad’s in that number Grin

mechanicalwonder · 30/01/2021 16:21

@Blessex

So mixing and matching vaccines I am feeling relaxed about. Watched an expert on this this morning. Ultimately all vaccines are trying to do the same thing - induce your body to produce an immune response to the spike protein eg antibodies. Actually what was said by expert this morning was that if that is done in a couple of different ways then it can actually produce a more robust response.
I watched him as well....chris smith.,he's on quite often and I think now I have a small crush on him....
Blessex · 30/01/2021 16:30

@buttery81 omg. It’s amazing. It seems as if the numbers go up as the week progresses. So we should stop freaking out when when they go back down again.

Blessex · 30/01/2021 16:32

@mechanicalwonder yep my parents who have had one Pfizer had the same question to me today and I calmed them down. Clearly I would love them to have a second dose of Pfizer and they probably will - but if they don’t - then I don’t want them to worry. We need to look after our mental health.

BunsyGirl · 30/01/2021 16:39

Took my dad for his today. Was worried as he has a penicillin allergy but he is looking fine at the moment!

MaddieElla · 30/01/2021 16:45

Woooooooohooooooooo! 🥳🥳🥳

I'll have a celebratory gin. Grin

yellowspanner · 30/01/2021 16:51

@gisbons there’s another thread up about the NHS link, so hopefully this one will stay!

My DM is booked to have her vaccination on Tuesday. Is it OTT that I’m cock-a-hoop? Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 30/01/2021 17:39

I am greedy still waiting for 500k a daySmile

Chesneyhawkes1 · 30/01/2021 17:41

I'm going tomorrow. I'm actually excited

FourTeaFallOut · 30/01/2021 17:42

Maybe tomorrow. The Sunday figure was bigger than the Saturday figure last week, so you never know!

LetItGoGo · 30/01/2021 17:44

People I know who've gone have been excited. It's a rare day out in 2021!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 30/01/2021 18:00

So many people on mumsnet going next or have family members going next week.

It has got to be a massive week for numbers if mumsnet is a cross section of the country. Fingers crossed 🤞

doritodiva · 30/01/2021 18:05

Are we ahead of ourselves??

Motorina · 30/01/2021 18:16

7 day rolling average seems to be holding steady at 360k per day (or 2.5 million/week). Truly extraordinary.

That would also fit with what little is known about vaccine availability. 2million Oxford/AZ per week, and a rather lesser number of Pfizer.

As I understand it, the Oz/AZ supply chain is now fully within the UK so, worst case scenario, even if Pfizer supply is interupted by the current unpleasantness, hopefully we should be able to keep up really solid vaccine numbers.

I am not holding my breath for an apology from MNHQ 😂

daisypond · 30/01/2021 18:20

My elderly parents, late 80s, finally have an appointment next week.

whenwillthemadnessend · 30/01/2021 18:21

Just booked my dads for this Friday was dead easy
Mass vaccine centre and loads of slots to choose from.

Hurrah! In the first Times article that Errol posted up-thread, it said that AZ supplies are down this week (by a fifth) but are expected to be back up next week.

So if The Times is right, could next week be even bigger numbers?!

Great to hear of all these new appointments too and that the booking process is running smoothly!

Goodness me! I’m blown away by the figures. It’s just what we needed after a slimmed down week.

Good to see the EU have confirmed they won’t be blocking UK Pfizer imports too.

Happy Jaburday!

Great way to finish the month of Jabuary!

(Ok I’ll give it a rest Grin)
