This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@alwuehd terminally realistic id say! And @daisypond that’s exactly what the nurse said.

But of course why listen to a medical professional like a doctor, nurse or scientist when you have mumsnetters eh? Grin

Good grief. Please tell her to alert Pfizer immediately, I'm sure they'll want to know. Wink

It’s such a miserable morning out there, but I’m already looking forward to 4pm! Anyone else?

Always! Lots of good news starting to come through now and we're at a turning point. Wine

alwuehd · 30/01/2021 11:33

@MaddieElla brilliant 😂

InterfectoremVulpes · 30/01/2021 11:37

I like how people on mumsnet can't also be medical professionals like doctors, nurses or scientists. Just silly mummies spending hubsters money tinkly laugh

alwuehd · 30/01/2021 11:38

I'm really looking forward to summer. I think things are going to be so much better, more and more vaccines will become available. The weather will be nicer. We will be able to see people again and best of all the most at risk will be much protected than they are now.

This isn't the first pandemic human kind have got through and I'm sure it won't be the last, but I do honestly believe things are going to be so much better very soon.

PuzzledObserver · 30/01/2021 11:39

Out of interest, where is the data first published? There’ve been days when I went on the dashboard at nearly 5pm and it hadn’t been updated, but the figures were already on this thread!

alwuehd · 30/01/2021 11:41

@InterfectoremVulpes god forbid we have brains and some positivity - what a terrible combination 😂

The omni vaccine calculator each day is getting further and further away. It was by mid march and is now april. For group 6 . Is it just getting more accurate as I thought vaccine rate was actually increasing.

I was pondering idly while doing the washing up this morning, what would have to happen for all social distancing guidelines to be withdrawn?

I'm also group 6 and it's showing a window of early March to early April for me and has been pretty much all along. It looks as if we're roughly on the govt target.

Interesting article on the early positive signs of the vaccination scheme working.

Interesting how they casually dropped in reference to potential mixing and matching of vaccinations! I do hope it doesn’t come to that...

Thanks again for sharing the Times links @ErrolTheDragon!

My stepdad (73) had his jab today at the GP surgery.

Bam! Grin

Blessex · 30/01/2021 14:04

@WetJan Grin to your stepdad

Blessex · 30/01/2021 14:06

So mixing and matching vaccines I am feeling relaxed about. Watched an expert on this this morning. Ultimately all vaccines are trying to do the same thing - induce your body to produce an immune response to the spike protein eg antibodies. Actually what was said by expert this morning was that if that is done in a couple of different ways then it can actually produce a more robust response.

buttery81 · 30/01/2021 14:29

@Blessex do you know whether we are likely to have to mix and match, or will we be able to get the second doses of Pfizer out of the EU? Also, am I right in thinking the Pfizer jab is the only one that is affected by the EU’s actions, in terms of second jabs? I guess everyone who’s had the Oxford vaccine should be able to get a second dose of Oxford without any issues?

Interesting, I'd been wondering about that. It certainly makes sense to do the trials, if possible.

@buttery81 I just went into Twitter and read this. So am hoping is all fine.

@ErrolTheDragon yes I heard an expert speak about it this morning.
