This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

My dad got a message today to book - he's 70

Woohoo! Which part of the country?

buttery81 · 28/01/2021 07:50

Really enjoying the stories of everyone getting booked in - thank you for sharing!

NI online booking went live tonight for those aged 65-69 to book their vaccines at one of seven regional centres

That’s fantastic!! It sounds like NI are really speeding along if they’re allowing 65-69 year olds to book already!

My dad has his appointment booked for Saturday. He’s 73. My PIL (both 76) had their first jabs almost two weeks ago.

Me too. It is very heartening.
Selfishly, I really hope I manage to get a vaccine before I return to full classrooms - I'm late 50s and it is very worrying. A colleague has been off with long covid, she got her results at Christmas, and although she's improving she's been very poorly.

QueenPawPaws · 28/01/2021 09:03

@notevenat20 Blackpool area :)

PuzzledObserver · 28/01/2021 09:07

I love watching the live vaccine tracker, even though I know it’s an estimate and the last few days the figures have been revised down when the actual figures have been released.

But.

At the moment it is showing over 7.5 million have had their first dose, with more than 8 million jabs in total having been given. And that makes me happy. Take that, Coronavirus!

Apologies, I know this has been covered on the thread numerous times before, but please could someone remind me - can you enter your details into the NHS website and book a vaccine appointment even if you haven’t had a letter yet? My parents are aged 65-69 (priority group 5) so it’s probably too soon, but just wanted to check!

@gisbons seems to know the ins and out but form my understanding you can enter your details and if you are eligible it will offer you an appointment but if you are not then nothing will show up.

I'd guess there won't be any Group 5 appointments for a few weeks yet, but it might be worth checking every few days.

NI online booking went live tonight for those aged 65-69 to book their vaccines at one of seven regional centres - I got my parents booked. Lots of availability, and a lot of people attempting to book judging by the speed of the website - not that I’m complaining - Fantastic effort by all involved
My relatives in Northern Ireland are in their early 70s and havent heard anything yet. Over 70s get it at their GPs and under 70s at the regional hubs.So the 65 to 69s are being booked in before the over 70s.
lurker101 · 28/01/2021 10:37

Yes @User27aw they covered this yesterday in the press briefing, it seems they’re having difficulties rolling out the two different vaccines without creating wastage of slots/vaccines, so while AZ rollout to over 70s is continuing through GPs they’ve opened the mass vaccination centre slots (which were previously only open to Health, social care workers and opticians/dentists) to 65-69s so they can run in parallel. I guess it’s to get as many vaccines in arms as quickly as possible without duplicating invites, so was probably easier to go to the next age group than either half vaccinations or to send duplicate appointments out when GPs have already made plans for vaccinations for over 70s. Looking at my old GPs surgery they are hoping to have all over 70s completed in about 2 weeks, so should only be for a short period of time, and they are in the same vaccination phase of the plan, so it seems this has always been their roll out plan, even if we think slightly older people should get it earlier.

Sorry that should say halt not half 😂

Apologies for bringing a negative question to the thread but I don’t dare ask or check anywhere else as 99% of the answers will be shrouded in doom: should we be concerned about the EU demanding our vaccines and threatening to block our Pfizer delivery?

I really hope nothing impacts on us reaching the mid Feb target and all the most vulnerable can be vaccinated.

herecomesthsun · 28/01/2021 11:11

I get mine Tuesday!

I don't think we should be worried at this stage. I voted remain and I have to say I am pretty appalled by the EU's attitude in this so far. The whole "give us their share" sounds like a toddler tantrum.

Of course it is not ideal that AZ are having issues meeting their original contractual obligations but this is a pandemic for goodness sake and everyone is flying by the seat of their pants!

There's no getting away from the fact that the UK Government got their order in months before the EU did (one of their few smart moves during this whole debacle) and that early decision meant that AZ were able to iron out the logistics issues before they needed to actually supply the vaccine. The EU haven't even approved the usage of the drug yet so what are AZ supposed to do, stockpile the EU share and refuse to sell it on to anyone else while they wait for approval that (although it's only a small chance) might not happen?

Thank you @CaveMum. I’m glad to see that you don’t think we should be worried at this stage, it puts my mind at ease.

It all seems so ridiculous and I wasn’t encouraged by BJ’s responses to the questions about it in the briefing last night but I suppose he has to be diplomatic. Hopefully he’ll give a clearer ‘ABSOLUTELY NOT, PISS OFF’ soon Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/01/2021 11:33

Lovely to hear so many people and their relatives getting jabbed. Also that the age groups are getting younger and now some areas are doing cev.
