For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Just heard that my mum and dad have had the jab call - they’re 70

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/01/2021 15:30

Wasn’t Pfizer approval much quicker? Fingers crossed J&J data is all nicely presented and clearcut and easy to approve.

Yeah I think Pfizer was quicker because of the differing efficacies with the AZ one that they probably had to look into.

@louisejxxx

Just heard that my mum and dad have had the jab call - they’re 70
My folks had theirs last week - also 70 Smile
FuzzyPuffling · 28/01/2021 15:45

Over 70s getting jabs...ARGH

I'll come back to the thread when DH has had his first dose. :(

Bettyboop89 · 28/01/2021 15:48

@louisejxxx where are you are in the UK? Waiting for my PIL to have theirs and they’re both 70.

Bettyboop89 · 28/01/2021 15:48

@TheChineseChicken where abouts are you in the UK?

TheChineseChicken · 28/01/2021 15:49

They are London

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 15:50

@Bettyboop89 west midlands

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 15:55

I hope the next few weeks go swiftly and uneventfully for your dh and it'll be good to see you again on the other side of the jab FuzzyPuffling.

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 15:56

@FuzzyPuffling which group is your DH in?

Bettyboop89 · 28/01/2021 15:58

We’re in West Yorkshire. Last I heard they weren’t giving us as many vaccines because we had vaccinated more than other areas, but looking at what you’ve both said, it doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m confused!

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 16:01

I think it’s almost like a lottery - it was my mum who got the call today and had to ask if my dad could come with her to have his too (she doesn’t drive)...they had to double check he was on the list and everything before saying yes, and he’s actually a few months older than my mum!

wendz86 · 28/01/2021 16:02

Pfizer and BioNTech say their vaccine has been shown to be effective against coronavirus variants that emerged in Britain and South Africa.

They said the virus mutations had only a small impact on the effectiveness of antibodies generated by the vaccine.

Pfizer said it would continue to monitor its "real-world effectiveness" against new strains.

OrangeBananaFish · 28/01/2021 16:06

So approval of J&J might not be too long then. Just remember it seemed to feel like ages for AZ, but that might be cos that was THE one and I was just impatient

Level75 · 28/01/2021 16:07

Nearly 7.5 million first doses. 280k ish today. Still a good figure (even if it's less than last week).

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 16:11

There's no vaccination data from Scotland? What happened there then?

Furries · 28/01/2021 16:15

I think Nicola has been a bit busy this afternoon !

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 16:17

I'm not making any comment on that Grin I'm presuming she has a minion to press send?

Level75 · 28/01/2021 16:17

Weird, that hopefully explains why it's lower than last week.

Furries · 28/01/2021 16:19

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 16:19

Omg, death data GREEN!!

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 16:24

And my county has gone from purple to dark blue on the map Smile

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 16:26

Rolling average on patient admissions looking better. Down 11%, hopefully this will start to drop quickly over the next few weeks.
