For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

Wasn’t Pfizer approval much quicker? Fingers crossed J&J data is all nicely presented and clearcut and easy to approve.
I understand it should be quick. They have been doing the same as AZ and submitting as they went along.
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 16:27

@FourTeaFallOut

There's no vaccination data from Scotland? What happened there then?
Some technical glitch at the data collection end, it was mentioned at the start of FMQs.
FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 16:29

Did they say if it will be fixed for tomorrow? Or is it more problematic that that?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 16:31

I don't think it was a huge deal, just a delay and they said they'd publish it as soon as they got the figure.

TheChineseChicken · 28/01/2021 16:31

That’s the best day of data for a long time

louisejxxx · 28/01/2021 16:32

The hospital admissions graph now looks a bit like a rollercoaster - there’s a little bit where it goes over the hill and then looks like it’s about to turn into a steep plunge. I know that’s not very scientific, but I’m hoping that’s how it’ll turn out.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2021 16:34

Cool. Thanks IncludeWomenInTheSequel

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/01/2021 16:36

Fuzzy 😢. I’m praying that Mr Fuzzy gets the call soon.

Over 70s getting jabs...ARGH

I'll come back to the thread when DH has had his first dose. :(

We’ll miss you. Stay well and I hope you are able to come back to the thread much much sooner than you are anticipating x

@fadingfast

I’ve just seen on Twitter that DHSC are reporting good results from the clinical evaluation of the LamPORE saliva tests, suitable for mass community testing.
I was wondering what has happened about saliva tests. It went silent for absolutely ages (unless I've missed something).
TeaInTheGarden · 28/01/2021 16:53

@FuzzyPuffling I’m sorry you’re feeling like this. I feel invested in your DH getting his vaccine now too! It’s all so horrible isn’t it.
Sit tight, the call will come.

Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is showing 92 percent effectiveness in Israel, according to the world’s first big controlled investigation on how it works outside of clinical tests.

My American friend has told me that her US dwelling sister, who is a midwife and transplant recipient, was tested for Covid antibodies weeks after her 2nd Pfizer jab. She had them (which is obviously good news).

Does anyone know if you can do a standard antibody test to see if you've made antibodies after being vaccinated? Or is it different?

That's great news!

TeaInTheGarden · 28/01/2021 16:57

That’s good news about saliva testing. I was hopeful about this months ago and was wondering what happened with it.

Florelei · 28/01/2021 17:21

I’m sorry I hope my post wasn’t insensitive. It’s just such a relief to me. I’ll report to MNHQ and ask for it to be deleted.

Well, we are doing very well with the week-over-week slider chart!

Today we have registered 296 "green" councils in England and just 16 councils with rising cases.

This really is remarkable especially give we have been building on pretty dramatic falls last week across the board too. So lockdown is working :)

You can see a full list of councils rising/falling on the table on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage.

If you click the W-o-W (week-over-week change) column - the one with the green and red, you can quickly see the councils that are "red" ie with cases rising, and a good few of them are pretty marginal - so mre good news.

The fall in cases also appears to be resulting in lower daily hospital admissions in pretty much every region, as you can see here:
www.covidmessenger.com/hospital-admissions/
(charts take a few secs to load).

What good news this is! And especially for all the hospital staff. They really deserve a break.

In other good news - this afternoon I was on the phone to my GP's reception and overheard another receptionist in the background offering a patient a vaccination slot. The elation in her voice was wonderful. How wonderful it must be to bring such good news to people!

I'll put my arms in the air for that rollercoaster plunge any time Grin
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 17:31

It was fine @Florelei Smile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/01/2021 17:43

Covid message is fantastic. So 16 councils left rising and then you look at West Devon for example. The rise is only 4 cases. That is only two thirds of my household!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/01/2021 17:45

Actually I got that mixed up with some where else. The rise is 7 cases but you get my point. Could easily be just one family.

I know it must be really tough waiting Fuzzy how old your DH? Is it that roll out in your area is slower?

I’m also waiting for relatives over 70 to get called in a slow area of the country Flowers

Pomegranatespompom · 28/01/2021 18:07

@FuzzyPuffling I do hope your DH gets his vac very soon.

EekThreek · 28/01/2021 18:13

I've been lurking for a few days, this is such a lovely place to hide from the rest of the coronavirus news and get some perspective so thank you for that!

Did I see someone else is in Shropshire? My in-laws are getting their jab today (they're mid-70s), but my Dad (71) hasn't heard anything yet.

I also noticed we've got some green MSOA areas in Shropshire now too, which is a relief to see! Still quite a lot of purple in the north of the country and top end of Shrewsbury, but most of the numbers are coming down, or marginal rises, so I'm trying to focus on that instead.

Not at all @Florelei we've already discussed in the past that the majority like to hear individual good news like this. Every person jabbed is still better for the country as a whole! Please don't feel bad Thanks
