For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

👋👋

BBCONEANDTWO · 23/01/2021 21:13

@Sevensilverrings

I’m not sure if you want this sort of regional news, but here goes... Devon has, as of today, vaccinated about 100000 people, out of an over 18 population of about 650000. I know it sits about middle of the league table of areas, so I imagine this is about typical? If so, that’s amazing. First two Devon mass vaccination sites to open this week, so not even hit its stride properly yet. Again, I think that’s the same for many areas.
Do you mean 10K or 100K people - if the latter that is absolutely, tremendously, joyously amazing.

Placemarking - I know nothing but I'm here for the positivity 🥳

FuzzyPuffling · 23/01/2021 21:19

We like regional news (esp Devon as it's next to me and my nearest vaccination place is in Devon). Excellent stuff, come on Team Pasty.

Iamclearlyamug · 23/01/2021 21:22

Loving the positivity puffins ❤️❤️ just placemarking the new thread 😀😀

@chri55ie

Any more vaccination centres opening next week?
We have ones opening up soon in leisure centres around my borough.

Not sure when exactly but the council announced it was happening.

We all read have small GP hubs

My borough is part of the east London partnership. Which means joined with other boroughs. So far we have done great but the other boroughs haven't. So Hancock is diverting more vaccine and resources are way.

My personal bit of joy.

A little Robin red breast has decided to move into my garden. It is really tiny but very jolly.

Have been trying to photograph it but it won't stay stillSmile

The thing in the paper about the two doctors who got double supplies of vaccine delivered and stayed up all night doubling up appointments and vaccinated 2340 people in a weekend . Heroes.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/01/2021 22:08

I didn't see that one Chelsea but that's fabulous. This pandemic has brought out the best and the worst in some people. That's definitely the best.

There's supposed to be a vacc centre opening in Truro on Monday. It's about 70 miles from.us bit will do south Cornwall well.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/01/2021 22:10

That was amazing Chelsea. I foresee feelgood tv dramas about this in years to come.
It’s the sheer determination of the people involved that is so impressive. It would be so easy to shrug and say ‘it’s not our fault they sent us double, there’s no way we can do this in time.’

2020CanDoOne · 23/01/2021 22:20

Oh that’s fantastic Chelsea - that’s made me (happy) cry, it’s definitely bringing out the best in some people.

Placemarking.

My lifeline of a thread!

Rumdiddly · 23/01/2021 22:37

If they manage to vaccinate 500k per day that is the entire population in 18 weeks

Sevensilverrings · 23/01/2021 22:42

BBCONEANDTWO, I mean 100000, if you look at this chart, it’s just under, but will be over that by now! (I’ve just cut off the end off the Devon number, because it is quite literally off the charts!
