For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

@TeaInTheGarden

Do we think we will be back at high vaccine figures today? I hope so! Has anyone forgives hot why the weekend lag (it appears it’s a thing) is showing up on Mondays and Tuesdays? Are vaccines slower to be reported? Or are there at tally less taking place on weekends?
I’m not sure, I have no experience with the covid vaccine rollout but For the flu vaccine my go surgery runs clinics at the end half of the week and on a Saturday for those who can’t do weekdays. If god are doing similar for the covid vaccine that might explain why Sundays and Mondays are lower rather than Saturdays.

Did your phone just autocorrect ‘gps’ to ‘god’? Grin

Just wondering. Do we know if the numbers are actually doses in the arms or doses delivered for use to hubs/centres that day?

TheChineseChicken · 27/01/2021 11:10

It’s lovely that God is involved in the vaccine rollout but it would have been nicer for him not to have invented covid at all

FourTeaFallOut · 27/01/2021 11:14

Doses given, otherwise some people sat on doses (not naming names, Nicola) would be doing a lot better.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 27/01/2021 11:17

Yesterday someone was posting about the making of vaccine in vats but their phone changed it to bats. So it sounded like bats were helping with it.

I thought that was good considering how slagged off they got in March Grin

That makes sense

Definitely going to be big reporting delays then. So many hubs/centres etc.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/01/2021 11:35

The should get the Sunderland vote counting team on it, maybe Newcastle's too so they have each other to compete with?

oops yes Smile! No idea why, I've never typed god purposefully before.

Although Gps are god of the vaccine at the moment, so maybe that's why.

I’m staying here for clarity and my sanity. Some of the undertones on other threads are becoming more vehement and am realising that it’s pretty much pointless to try to offer different points of view. Sorry, that wasn’t good news!

My good news for the day is that I’m going to spend the afternoon with mum. She’s CV and, though I’m her bubble, we’re still careful as I’m the one who gets her shopping, runs her errands etc. So we’ll spend the afternoon putting the world to rights (and I’m pretty sure she has KitKats in the fridge!)

I love a funny auto correct. There was a thread a while ago about Nerd immunity.

tobee · 27/01/2021 12:38
@tobee I know everyone is having a rubbish time- but it’s unfair to jump the queue. We were fortunate that our government took the risk - there are some things that we’ve got right thankfully.
Oh! I'm confused as to what this referring to?

Ha, that’s brilliant! And the bat one yesterday did make me smile.

Best one I’ve seen was a few years ago - it was in a widely distributed and printed industry publication. It was a report on a government select committee meeting and one of those being interviewed was stated as having “received a pubic thrashing” 😂

FuzzyPuffling · 27/01/2021 12:53

Love the bats and nerd immunity!

I'm a bit sceptical about Group 4 all being done by 15th as round here the over 80s won't be done until next weekend. Looking at graphs the over 70s and CEV group look even larger than the first three groups (17.5m against 15m - not sure how accurate that is) and our PCN is only vaccinating on Saturdays. Not exactly the 24/7 rollout we had hoped for. They've just opened another "local" mass vac hub -

On the good side, the ONS visit was fine - we've both signed up for the year.

And autocorrect wanted to change "only vaccinating" to "holy vaccinating". Clearly God is working his purpose out!

Pomegranatespompom · 27/01/2021 12:58

@tobee I was agreeing with you about vaccine roll out 😊

FourTeaFallOut · 27/01/2021 13:39

Just watched Boris in parliament suggest that we might see the reopening of schools from March 8th, so long as the usual preconditions are met.

louisejxxx · 27/01/2021 13:43

I think that’s about in line with what I thought would be the case, so am fairly pleased to hear that is what will happen if all targets are met.

Lots of media focus on the 100000 deaths and how awful this is compared to others today - is anyone else flashing back to that graph about us having the highest vaccine take up?! Something tells me when all is said and done, if that graph is correct and take up is much lower in other EU countries, they too will have death rates similar to ours.
