For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

More good news about a trial that's looking promising
Fab chart in this article that shows at the rate we're vaccinating we could do majority of population in 3 months www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/01/25/world/europe/global-vaccination-population-rate.html
I think it actually says it will take 3 months to vaccinate at least half (which I read as 51%) of the population. Happy to be corrected if I misread!

Level75 · 27/01/2021 08:29

I suppose technically that's the majority, but not what most take as the majority, if that makes sense.

starfish88 · 27/01/2021 08:30

I suppose if you take out children and others who can't be vaccinated at present then it's a bigger proportion of those who can be vaccinated.

Level75 · 27/01/2021 08:33

AZ chief thinks we'll be ahead of target re vaccinations for most at risk AND over 50s. Not sure if he's the best person to make this prediction but it's good news!

Grin I was just thinking ‘That is the majority, isn’t it?’
chri55ie · 27/01/2021 08:37

I take from that, that we must have enough Oxford vaccine then!

whenwillthemadnessend · 27/01/2021 08:50

Love the thread. Thx.

lunapeace · 27/01/2021 08:51

That's really good news if we are on track to vaccine (well first dose anyway) everyone over 50 by March!

thatgingergirl · 27/01/2021 08:52

Good morning. Some interesting and encouraging links again - thank you posters.

All the white stuff has gone in my area - damp and dreary now, but should mean more people are able to get to vaccination appointments!

Hope your ONS visit goes well Fuzzy.

OrangeBananaFish · 27/01/2021 08:54

Are we on track for the 15th then? I feel unsure as we still have some CEV and over 80s to go. I hope I'm wrong, but it just feels like there are a hell of a lot more people to get through.

Sorry not good news in itself, but I needed to ask

AlexandraEiffel · 27/01/2021 09:02

@Level75 yes it uses 'at least half' and 'majority' in same section. It's no more specific than that as to what actual numbers they've used for the UK.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/01/2021 09:03

Of course there are a lot left to do. 13-14m in the first 4 groups and 7 million done. There's still plenty more to go. But we have a rolling vaccination rate of 371k per day. 371k x 20 days (19 days plus one in tank) is 7.4m.

But, tbf, I'm in group 4 as cev and if supply issues mean I'm a week late I'll still be over the moon.

Yes last graph I've seen we were pretty much on track. There's a graph posted down thread somewhere, I think from the guardian but yes we're on track. I forget the exact stats but I think it's something like 80% over 80s and 50% over 70s now. Don't quote me on that but I know I am wonderfully surprised every time I check.

That looks promising Smile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 27/01/2021 09:58

Confident that we will reach are 15th target. Though I do expect a small percentage to be left over. Due to care homes having to wait 28 days if they had a outbreak. Some areas not quite finished.

Saying that I am expecting faster areas to be we into group 5 by the 15th.

The more I here about the AZ CEOthe more I like him. Same for are vaccine minister. Both very on the ball and you get the idea they can do this.

HalfDutchGirl · 27/01/2021 10:01

Morning all, came on here to cheer my day as I woke up like Eeyore with a black cloud over my head!

Great to read all of the threads and links, so interesting, especially the Sky one that talks about treatments for Covid.

Heard this morning my friend who's an essential worker is getting her jab tomorrow and I'm starting my voluntary shifts at the local vaccination hub on Friday so onwards and upwards!

Love the cute Marzipan pics and other animals - thank you Flowers

TeaInTheGarden · 27/01/2021 10:02

It’s brilliant their rates in over 60’s are going down despite other cases going up.
If our numbers are going down already and then we add vaccine effect on top, I’m really hopeful for great falls very soon....

Jsummersun · 27/01/2021 10:05

I too am impressed with the vaccine rollout. This is a profile of the vaccine minister - he seems very able and has an interesting background. Worth a listen.

OrangeBananaFish · 27/01/2021 10:21

Thanks @AlexandraEiffel and @FourTeaFallOut while I know its possible, it just seems like theres a long way to go. Hopefully today we will continue to see high vaccination figures

AlexandraEiffel · 27/01/2021 10:43

A long way to go but a long way travelled. Remaining on the same trajectory is enough now, yet we've been accelerating and look likely to continue to do so given new centres etc.

The AZ guy was on the panorama documentary and he came across well on that too. I think it's the same guy.

Gastonimo · 27/01/2021 10:46
@Gastonimo
I'd be interested to hear if he had the real thing or not. I had absolutely zero side effects not even a sore arm so convinced I had the placebo
He's just had the call. It was the placebo. He didn't feel anything when he had the vaccination so wasn't all that surprised.
So he'll be having his vaccine on Friday 👍

TeaInTheGarden · 27/01/2021 10:52

Do we think we will be back at high vaccine figures today? I hope so!
Has anyone forgives hot why the weekend lag (it appears it’s a thing) is showing up on Mondays and Tuesdays? Are vaccines slower to be reported? Or are there at tally less taking place on weekends?

FourTeaFallOut · 27/01/2021 10:57

I'm almost convinced of it. I think we actually have a two day reporting lag so we see most of Saturdays figures on Monday and Sunday figures on Tuesday. (But if it doesn't jump up today I will stop bringing it up).
