For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

A fellow midlander here too. 👋🏻

This thread keeps me going when I’m feeling disheartened by the other threads.

Level75 · 26/01/2021 17:24

Bu my calculations (and I did this a while ago and can't remember how!) tomorrow should mark the top of the peak for deaths. It might plateau for a bit but I think we're really close to a downturn in deaths as well as cases.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 17:31

level75 that would be good news indeed. The death rate is so very sad.

thatgingergirl · 26/01/2021 17:49

That's encouraging Level75.

I've been visiting Mumsnet for over 10 years and this afternoon I've used the Hide Thread facility for the first time! a) it worked and b) it was hugely satisfying!

Shehz21 · 26/01/2021 17:49

Apologies to be asking here as this is the only thread I visit on Mumsnet now but could anyone brief any "good news" from the PM's announcement? Was there anything mentioned about hotel quarantines?

Missed it as have a poorly toddler glued to me today.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 17:49

I am finding today rather depressing.

Same. It just seems relentless now. We have vaccines, and the roll-out is going better than had ever been expected, but there still seems to be no let-up in sight.

Sorry, I know this isn't in keeping with this thread.

Same Sad
Inastatus · 26/01/2021 18:03

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel and @IcedPurple - it is a very sombre day but as Level75 says, I really think we are at the peak now and it’s ‘the dark before the dawn’. The vaccines will soon start to take effect and we should see cases and deaths falling. Hang in there.

@Schez21 - it was a bit gloomy really, just mainly focussed on the 100,000 death toll and that it’s too soon to ease up on anything. Nothing mentioned about quarantine hotels.

sashagabadon · 26/01/2021 18:04

Good news from me is that I had a successful morning testing the key worker kids and teachers in my children’s school with other parent volunteers and lab staff. All very organised and no positive tests to report Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 18:16

For all those feeling the gloom, I bring you Marzipan. (Still recovering, obviously, but sending you all pony-love.)

Keep the faith, cheer mongers.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 18:17

Sasha that's excellent news. Well done your school.

MarshaBradyo · 26/01/2021 18:18

Keep the faith, cheer mongers.

Ah this is nice
I’m a bit better today with Ox thing cleared up but last night was bad

Inastatus · 26/01/2021 18:20

Ah Marzipan - he does look a bit tired 😅

Here’s a bit of kitty cuteness too.

Good news part 7
FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 18:23

Nice kitties. Are they yours?

mrshonda · 26/01/2021 18:29

I'm having a miserable day too, so here is a kitten. His name is Mister Peep and he is being fostered and handreared by Kitten Lady (Hannah Shaw) in the US.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 18:31

Oh look at his little furry face!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 18:31

Thanks everyone x
Sasha, that’s great.

sashagabadon - thanks for undertaking that, I'm glad it went well. And thanks Fuzzy for joining the ONS study.

Thanks to anyone and everyone really doing whatever they can to help get us through this.

Lovely 'photos!

I've lined up some Motown to play this evening - love a bit of Motown.

Inastatus · 26/01/2021 18:44

@FuzzyPuffling - yes they are mine 😊

@mrshonda - soo cute!

BBCONEANDTWO · 26/01/2021 18:46

Here's a pretty photo to cheer you all up.

I too have been a bit flat. There IS hope but it feels like such an uphill struggle!

I have found Dr John Campbell’s videos great though, it’s not always good news but it’s realistic. And that includes being realistic and positive about the good stuff too, as well as perspective and info on any of the bad.

tobee · 26/01/2021 18:54

@FuzzyPuffling

Ooh do you know what it involves Fuzzy ? First visit is a longer one as there are consent forms etc to fill in. And blood tests (I think for antibody detection) Then regular swab tests.

I'll let you know when it's happened. (We signed up last September and thought we'd been thoroughly forgotten about!)

Excellent Fuzzy.

Bet you'll feel weird with people in the house! We had a nurse and technician in the house last week to talk about Dh maybe doing home haemo. First since at least March. Felt very freaky! Even though we were all masked up and distanced. I flung all the doors open after! 😱

tobee · 26/01/2021 18:57

Marzipan does look a bit shagged out.

MarcelineMissouri · 26/01/2021 19:17

@FuzzyPuffling we have been doing the ONS survey, since last September. We haven’t been asked to have any blood tests though! Would have liked to have done that.
We have a visit tomorrow so I will be having 2 tests tomorrow as it’s also my day for doing a lateral flow test for work.
