For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

2020CanDoOne - that's a good video. I hope it reassures people.

bathsh3ba · 26/01/2021 14:38

Yes, I WhatsApp call her but she gets upset as she thinks you're really there. My parents have managed to continue to meet her outside, but with carers and my children, we would have exceeded the rule of six and she lives too far away for me to leave the children behind, so it's just not been workable to see her. I'm interested to see how they actually get a needle in her, but that's their problem, not mine!

11) And then there is the data from Moderna and the NIH Vaccine Research Center from today. This is also pseudotype particle neutralization with the full B.1.1.7 spike. Basically no impact. https://biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.01.25.427948v1.full.pdf

So it looks like the Modena and Pfizer could still be in the high 8os to protect against South African strain which is amazing. Does anyone know what about Oxford one?

InterfectoremVulpes · 26/01/2021 15:13

29744 cases estimated by Zoe today

(Just to clarify , there estimates are no good at local level but they seem to be there or thereabouts at a national level)

Definitely agree on the local basis - my towns rapid magical rise by over 4000 cases last week appears to have returned to the lower levels of the previous week today HmmGrin

Level75 · 26/01/2021 16:18

I make that about 236k vax in England (not UK) yesterday.

AVictoryProduct · 26/01/2021 16:19

Place marking. Thanks to all posters for keeping this going. It's my favourite fix.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 16:22

InterfectoremVulpes · 26/01/2021 16:42

6,853,327 first doses now, so thats just under 300k?

InterfectoremVulpes · 26/01/2021 16:43

279,757 first doses given

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 16:44

Wow, not bad. Is anyone doing a rolling average on these figures?

InterfectoremVulpes · 26/01/2021 16:44

Cases are down again too. Unfortunately deaths are up again but that could partly be due to the weekend reporting lag.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 16:45

DH and I have been accepted onto the ONS covid study. First home visit tomorrow morning.

It feels good to be doing something positive after all these months of being told what a burden we are!

Has anyone else done the ONS thing?

tobee · 26/01/2021 16:49

Ooh do you know what it involves Fuzzy ?

BigWoollyJumpers · 26/01/2021 16:51

@InterfectoremVulpes

Take a look at the "data" tab. Deaths have actually been pretty consistent 1,100 per day approx for a couple of weeks now.
InterfectoremVulpes · 26/01/2021 16:56

True, it smooths out a bit when they are shown by date of death. Hopefully will start heading downwards soon as we must be at the tail end of the peak in cases driving this rate?

FuzzyPuffling · 26/01/2021 16:56

Ooh do you know what it involves Fuzzy ?
First visit is a longer one as there are consent forms etc to fill in. And blood tests (I think for antibody detection)
Then regular swab tests.

I'll let you know when it's happened. (We signed up last September and thought we'd been thoroughly forgotten about!)
