For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.
@louisejxxx Shropshire! Smile

We’re the worst at vaccinating apparently Smile not so bad on case rates - there’s the positive for this positive thread Grin
Ha! I am in Worcestershire so I suppose my positive spin will have to be “our case rates are dreadful, but we’re vaccinating reasonably well!” Grin

@BigWoollyJumpers

I know this is the good news thread.... but I am worried that the EU will now block exports of Pfizer vaccine soon. Blame Sturgeon for spilling the beans on how much we had in stock.
Just read Robert peston’s informative tweets- the truth re az is the UK sorted it’s order several months before the EU did. So although they can be justified that the supply is slower than promised they can’t really complain that we are way ahead on supplies. And I don’t see how the EU can slow down our Pfizer on that basis. Also we only ever ordered 40m of Pfizer and 100m az- the vast majority of which will be manufactured in the UK.
Frazzled2207 · 26/01/2021 11:54

Uk ordered it 3 whole months before the EU did.

Given the vaccine take up in the rest of Europe is so poor (most don't even seem to want the vaccine!) this is hopefully unlikely 🙏🏼

The EU hasn't even approved the Oxford vaccine yet, so it's understandable that AZ want to get the vaccines distributed to make room in their warehouses for the next batches.

I doubt the EU are seriously going to block Pfizer delivering to the UK, it would cause chaos.

I'm not sure if legally the EU can prevent supplies being delivered. Surely there would have to be some kind of EU law, which would need to be drafted and set into motion, which takes time. A lot of time. The law moves slowly.

I think I read somewhere (back in December) that Pfizer intended to deliver at least a million a week to the UK.

If so we've already had some 6 million of our 40 million doses and I suspect we actually have quite a bit more than that.

Oxford are supplying 2 million a week from now, and we'd need a further 800,000 a week from Pfizer to vaccinate 400,000 per day.

So hopefully we've got quite a bit stockpiled.

TheKeatingFive · 26/01/2021 12:33

Isn’t the EU due to decide on Oxford today?

IcedPurple · 26/01/2021 12:34

I thought Friday?
FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 12:39

I think Johnson and Johnson declare their results at the end of the week, don't they?

Tentatively looking forward to this 🙏🏼😬
MarcelineMissouri · 26/01/2021 13:02

Looks like next week for J&J

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 13:03

Ah well, I'll trade earlier for robust data, that'll do.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 13:08

Do we have any J&J on order?

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 13:09

Fekking heaps, 30m if I remember correctly, not bad for a single dose vaccine.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 13:13

Ah is Johnson and Johnson the same as Janssen?

ILookAtTheFloor · 26/01/2021 13:14

They're definitely keeping exact figures quiet for security reasons 👍👍

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 13:17

Yeah, they seem to use the names interchangeably.

Frazzled2207 · 26/01/2021 13:23

Yes Janssen is the pharma arm of j&j (who do lots of other stuff too)

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 13:41

Thanks!

TeaInTheGarden · 26/01/2021 13:55

Does anyone know how quickly J&J would be available to start administering?
Exciting!

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 13:57

I don't know, I remember reading that they wouldn't meet their targets that they set out on their "operation warp speed" Hmm but I those targets were colossal.

Does anyone know if we have rolling approval on this vaccine?

2020CanDoOne · 26/01/2021 14:19

Not so much good news as a inspiring video to help uptake within the Asian community to take the vaccines.

Janssen in the medicines arm of J&J
TheChineseChicken · 26/01/2021 14:29

Sorry, should have refreshed the thread before posting Blush

bathsh3ba · 26/01/2021 14:32

My sister is getting her first vaccine on Saturday, I think that counts as good news! She is learning disabled and CEV, lives in a 'care home' (I put it in inverted commas as it is a small home that doesn't feel like a care home, but it is one!). I haven't seen her since January 2020, can't wait till restrictions are lifted enough for me to see her again.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 14:34

That's brilliant @bathsh3ba you must be missing each other a lot.
