For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Good news part 7
Florelei · 26/01/2021 08:37

Morning, just re-reading this thread. It seems every day brings new levels of doom and I spend each evening not sleeping worrying about it.

This thread is truly a place of sanity. Dave the axolotl is very cute!

TheChineseChicken · 26/01/2021 08:47

Re. schools, I thought the issue wasn’t just about children transmitting the virus but staff mixing? And parents at pick up etc.?

TheChineseChicken · 26/01/2021 08:48

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

Marzipan is having a long lie this morning after there was a Big Pony Party in his paddock last night. But don't worry, we've got Dave the Axolotl to keep us anxiety-free this morning.
Morning, Dave!
Pomegranatespompom · 26/01/2021 08:56

@TheChineseChicken I think that is absolutely correct.

TeaInTheGarden · 26/01/2021 09:00

@2fallsagain and @Pomegranatespompom
thank you so much for sharing that little bit of hope this morning!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 09:16

Are all night pony paddock parties ALLOWED? Shock

thatgingergirl · 26/01/2021 09:33

Dave is so cute, but he's bashful - look at his little hand - "who, me?"! Smile

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 26/01/2021 09:51

Ponies, it turns out, think it's called Ponyvirus and that it's a good thing. They're cute but not so smart.

Hi Dave
louisejxxx · 26/01/2021 10:29

@1990s interested to know where that is now as I am in the Midlands too! waves at all other Midlanders. Where I am apparently has the 2nd fastest rise of cases in the country Blush (begins with an R)

MarshaBradyo · 26/01/2021 10:31

This kept me awake last night. Completely false if anyone else saw 8% claim

Good news part 7
chri55ie · 26/01/2021 10:40

Yes kept me awake too last night! Must stay off Twitter before bed time!

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 10:40

I'm going to start a policy of ignoring anything negative for two straight days. Usually by that point it's been retracted or dialled down to far less worrisome news.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 26/01/2021 10:45

I’m rather sad to see that Germany’s science journalism is as shockingly useless as ours! I mean, REALLY.

I was really glad to see MNHQ had edited the thread title to say it’s false though. A lot of people will be beside themselves otherwise. The thing is if a thread title is scary some people will deliberately not click on it and then they won’t find out that the thread is all about how it’s bollocks.

Very sensible

Even knowing this has no legs last night it was still very draining. Went from happy to feeling low all night Sad

Probably should step away from news stories for a bit. It is like a rollercoaster at the moment.

TeaInTheGarden · 26/01/2021 10:57

@FourTeaFallOut you’re right, very sensible plan. Wish I was strong enough to do it 😂

FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 11:03

Well, who knows? It's a plan. I also keep saying that I won't go on the wider coronavirus board and I should eat more vegetables - so I'm not sure how this is going to play out but it's a plan. Grin

1990s · 26/01/2021 11:04

@louisejxxx Shropshire! Smile

We’re the worst at vaccinating apparently Smile not so bad on case rates - there’s the positive for this positive thread Grin

Oh god! Ridiculous
carolinesbaby · 26/01/2021 11:23

Waving at 1990s from another part of the county!

Our record on vaccinations is shocking isn't it! Hoping they pick it up over the next couple of weeks. But we are blue again on the map which is nice.

1990s · 26/01/2021 11:30

Hi reachers! Yes my hope is now there has been fairly widespread publicity about our useless vaccine record it will result in it picking up. Smile

Also hi Dave. What a cutey. Hope Marzipan’s hangover isn’t too bad.

BigWoollyJumpers · 26/01/2021 11:33

I know this is the good news thread.... but I am worried that the EU will now block exports of Pfizer vaccine soon. Blame Sturgeon for spilling the beans on how much we had in stock.

I also keep promising myself that I won’t go on the main corona board but I get drawn in every time and my anxiety shoots through the roof! I don’t know why I do it to myself 🙁
FourTeaFallOut · 26/01/2021 11:36

They could play that game but if it comes to tit for tat, we have 30m Oxford vaccines ready to ship to the EU that would go a long way to fix our own vaccine supply issues.
