For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Cases in my area are still going up, but at least the rate of increase seems to be finally slowing. Its frustrating, we'd been low since the start of November and suddenly started climbing about 2 weeks ago - presumably the new variant reached us?

Level75 · 25/01/2021 19:35

Where abouts do you live @Flev?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/01/2021 19:38

@Pomegranatespompom

Sorry I know this is a good news thread but I’m getting really naffed off at posters who say nhs staff signed up for this. Not this thread of course.
Idiots that don't think of anything else but their own needs.

Rest assured most of the general population don't think like that.

Manzanilla55 · 25/01/2021 19:53

It is very good news that the daily cases have gone down.

TeaInTheGarden · 25/01/2021 20:01

Another bit of good news from Israel.

“Very positive vaccine news: Israeli HMO Maccabi reports just 20 positive coronavirus tests out of 128,000 people who had their second Pfizer shot a week or more ago. None of the 20 were serious cases”

CornishYarg · 25/01/2021 20:14

Was just about to post that @TeaInTheGarden. Very positive news

Level75 · 25/01/2021 20:32

Is it sad to admit that I have a direct link to this thread on my phone's homescreen?! I don't have to search for it or navigate mumsnet at all. I feed my family all the good news from here.

chri55ie · 25/01/2021 20:35

So do I! Think it’s very sensible!!!

TeaInTheGarden · 25/01/2021 20:38

I have this thread always open in Safari on my phone ☺️

Depressing that they're so many nob heads around. Angry

tobee · 25/01/2021 20:52

*There are. Honestly, need to proof read!

Pomegranatespompom · 25/01/2021 21:02

Sorry lol to @Pomegranatespompom

Flev · 25/01/2021 22:00

@level75 I'm in Erewash, Derbyshire

GrumpySausage · 25/01/2021 23:08

@flev I'm just across the border (broxtowe) waves and ours rates have gone up this week too-made me feel a bit panicked at first but they've only gone up 2 cases from last week. I think you're right that we're seeing the effects of the new variant. Hopefully with lockdown in place it won't be able to get far and we'll see no more significant increases.
Positive spin, both areas are below the 'national average' of case rates. Thanks BBC checker.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 26/01/2021 01:39

Anyone seen Marzipan tonight or similar cute distraction?

WednesdayalltheWay · 26/01/2021 07:44

Place marking.

Report from PHE covered in The Times this morning which indicates primary schools are safe as children do not appear to spread the virus and should be opened after half term IF cases continue to drop.

Based on data from last term.

Checking in. Glad to see that Reuters piece.

Marzipan is having a long lie this morning after there was a Big Pony Party in his paddock last night. But don't worry, we've got Dave the Axolotl to keep us anxiety-free this morning.
