For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

I love this thread, the sanity is very refreshing!
Cases data for today are way down again at only 22,195

Weekend lag will account for some but YAY!!

MarshaBradyo · 25/01/2021 16:08

Ah nice to see that figure again!

Level75 · 25/01/2021 16:17

Does anywhere publish a daily update of the vaccination numbers as opposed to the total count? As far as I can see the government dashboard doesn't do this.

TheChineseChicken · 25/01/2021 16:18

I just came on to post this - I thought I was looking at the wrong number for a moment!

Click on ‘view vaccine data’ on the government update page and you will get a graph.

My county has turned blue again on the .gov.uk map!!! So happy about that.

louisejxxx · 25/01/2021 16:57

That case rate is fantastic! To get down to those sort of numbers (even if it does end up being high 20000s for the rest of the week) after under 3 weeks of lockdown is great I think.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/01/2021 17:07

Here's a sunset picture for you positivity puffins. Today's news has been good. I'm listening to My Mate Matt and his Briefing Chicks now.

Did you take that Fuzzy? Everyone is better at taking photos than me. Maybe I should teach myself in lockdown? !

FuzzyPuffling · 25/01/2021 17:12

Yes, about an hour ago. On my daily exercise. It's just a phone snap, no filters but the scenery makes it easy.

tobee · 25/01/2021 17:12

Just looking at the Sky News app and BBC News app updates on the Matt Hancock briefing and the difference in tone in the headline for the news from Moderna is startling! Shock

tobee · 25/01/2021 17:13

I love to see Cornwall! Sometimes I spend time looking at live webcams! Grin

FuzzyPuffling · 25/01/2021 17:14

250 jabs a minute!

The French don't want vaccines, the Dutch are rioting and the Brits are queueing quietly and getting immunised in millions!

MadisonAvenue · 25/01/2021 17:15

That’s beautiful Fuzzy, I do miss that part of the world!

Here’s a pic from my little corner of the West Midlands, taken at lunchtime while walking the dog on the common behind our house.

It'll still be here waiting for you, Madison, when you can come again.

I lived in Sutton Coldfield for some years, so escape is possible!

tobee · 25/01/2021 17:23

Be interesting to see if the French change their minds in the near future.

This is interesting, on the subject of uptake.

Here's one of mine. Getting out and about with my camera has been the best thing to come out of spending more time just hanging out locally, and not spending weekends racing from one activity to the next.

This is fascinating. France only 30%. Do the other 70% not believe that the vaccine is the way out of the pandemic or do they not care? Genuine question, not sneering.
TheChineseChicken · 25/01/2021 17:41

Also, how does their flu vaccine uptake compare with ours and, if it’s considerably lower, is their flu mortality and morbidity higher than ours?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/01/2021 17:46

I think many European countries are more anti vax than us for a number of reasons- they have a greater reliance on complementary medicines and less trust in medics. Our free at the point of use health service does engender confidence that the staff aren’t just trying to make money out of you.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/01/2021 17:47

Lovely photos.

If France only have a less than 30% take-up of vaccines, they'll be stuck in the revolving door of rising infections and lockdowns for ever.
