Endless Propaganda

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 17:36

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

here's 500 opinions for you! Grin

YukoandHiro · 23/01/2021 18:54

I agree that the recent adverts went to far and needed censorship but 1,300 deaths a day is not "kills barely anybody". As usual, the reality lies in the shades of grey between the black and white in this thread

countrybumpkintocityslicker · 23/01/2021 18:55

I have to say that my observation is that MN is pretty much propaganda. Any dissent to government guidelines is deleted. There was a thread about a week ago deleted because the OP said that the vaccine centre was not safe.

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2021 18:55

So you think they should start restricting medical care dependent on age?

They already do this with all sorts of things.

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 18:56

@Aprilrainbow

OP, you must be exhausted with all those name changes.
Eh?

The only person who would look me in the eye and say it is Boris Johnson.

Do you really think that a tory government would trash the economy to save the lives of the old and vulnerable? Or do you think maybe that the alternative would be even worse for the economy?

This is what I don't think people get. It isn't about covid vs mental health/education/the economy. If we didn't take measures to control the spread of the virus, those things would be shot to shit anyway. It isn't like we can choose to have our kids in school and the economy fully open and functioning even if we collectively do agree that we don't care if old people die.

Do people genuinely not get that?

AcornAutumn · 23/01/2021 18:56
@LucilleTheVampireBat
Oh yes m no radio either
Equally depressing

When a journo realises people are turning off in droves and revenue is being lost
They might start treating us like adults again
Hi Dowser!!

I use every option to reduce this shit though I am not a big radio person.

Very low news at the mo. It was a shock to me to find from MN that people get news alerts sent to their phone. Understandable if you need to know for work, but otherwise, it just baffles me.

frumpety · 23/01/2021 18:57

I have never knowingly lived through an actual world wide pandemic before, perhaps other's on this thread have ? But even I would assume that such an event is newsworthy, given they don't happen all that often.

If you don't like being reminded of the fact that we are living through a world wide pandemic, perhaps avoiding the news is the best course of action ?

BasiliskEgg · 23/01/2021 18:57

Any dissent to government guidelines is deleted.

Nonsense. There are loads of anti lockdown threads and posts on here.

TrimmedMyBush · 23/01/2021 18:57

Agree, it’s one of the governments low points. Those who have massive anxiety over covid will be tipped over the edge!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 23/01/2021 18:58

This was filmed at the hospital I work at earlier this week. These are real staff and real patients

It is relentless at work. The increase in numbers of younger patients coming in to our hospital currently is horrific to see

@SecretDoor. thank you for all you're doing 💐. I'm sorry there's so much crap posted x

OppsUpsSide · 23/01/2021 18:58

They don’t purely base it on age.

Roselilly36 · 23/01/2021 18:58

I totally agree, most people I know don’t bother watching the news anymore.

grassisjeweled · 23/01/2021 18:59

Because the vaccine gives you greater immunity than having Covid.

^

GrinConfused

Go back and do the math on that one.

There's a high chance of it being a massive relief for the family, and not just at 98.

^

This. With bells on. It's not a tragedy!

1Q84isHappening · 23/01/2021 18:59

Covid aside if you look overall at the quality of "journalism" these days it is completely horrifying. Most are not what I would consider to be true journalists at all.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 23/01/2021 18:59

@Emmie2021

The world has gone mad - news reports calling a 98 year old in a care home dying a tragedy
I agree. Its very sad but dying at age 98 is NOT a fcking tragedy.

Many people (including me) would give anything for their relatives to get to that age FFS.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 23/01/2021 19:00

Why do we not get public a monthly anti body updates?
ONS says one in 8 have the anti bodies now. Up from one in 11 in November.
Vaccine programme is doing well.
I’d like a bit more positivity. Or at least proper news facts.

Same with Brexit. Whatever your opinion it was constant doom and gloom for years about no deal etc and then it went pretty quiet when Jan 1st came and not much changed.

if the virus was allowed to just rip through:
YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WIlLL HAVE NO HEALTH SERVICE

Exactly like over the summer then, when in many areas it was emergency services only even though cases were on the floor

Sorry, but the ship carrying that particular threat sailed quite some time ago for many of us

Conniethesensible · 23/01/2021 19:00

Well this made me lose what little faith I had left in the British people.

Yes it’s shit. Maybe pick a government that cared about it’s people in the first place and listened to science in the first place but hospitals shouldn’t have to suffer further for their incompetence

mycatscausehell · 23/01/2021 19:01

i havent rtft so dont know if its been stated but as someone who has covid it is TERRIFYING to only see the you will die narrative. I have followed all the rules and I still have it, there's no 'if you get covid at hme do this this and this' information just DONT GET IT YOU WILL DIE

BasiliskEgg · 23/01/2021 19:01

FGS why are people being so obtuse. Even if you don't give a shit about 98 years olds dying, the deaths are not the reason we have lockdown. The hospitalisations are.

Notthemessiah · 23/01/2021 19:02

So why are the government doing this? Who does the lockdown benefit?

If you can answer this without sounding like some Q-anon, tin-foil hat wearing moron then I might actually start taking these threads seriously but at the moment all I can see are lots of fed up moaners desperately hoping that if they believe strongly enough that this isn't really happening, everything will suddenly magically go away.

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 19:02

There have always been years with high excess death rates.

I'm not trying to avoid news about the pandemic, I'm saying that I'd rather the BBC didn't lay on the manipulation quite so blatantly.
