Endless Propaganda

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

@OppsUpsSide

I'm not sure I understand your point, do you want them to stop treating cancer patients? Because they are.

I wasn’t making a point I was asking a question. Do you not have an answer?

I don't think a 98 year old with Covid trumps a 72 year old with cancer. Does that answer your question?

Now you answer mine.

BamboozledandBefuddled

I was responding to the OP who seems to think that the whole epidemic is a government plot designed to annoy them.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 23/01/2021 18:44

@Emmie2021

The world has gone mad - news reports calling a 98 year old in a care home dying a tragedy
How heartless

It is a tragedy if someone dies, whatever their age, if they die unnecessarily & without their family around them.

Lastfreakinglegs · 23/01/2021 18:45

@Emmie2021 no it was Wales

southeastdweller · 23/01/2021 18:45

@viques

Sometime next week we will reach 100,000 deaths.

I think that’s worth a bit of propaganda.

What about the 165,000 people who died of cancer last year? Did you think that was worth a bit of propaganda too?
Yohoheaveho · 23/01/2021 18:45

they are crashing the economy on purpose
such thoughts have also wandered (unbidden) into my mind, surely that cant be the case thoConfused

I am also irritated by the fact that if you question the narrative in any way, then you must be a mad conspiracy theorist who can be dismissed easily.

Yep, definitely approaching a full moon.

gasgig · 23/01/2021 18:46

It is nothing about being more like China.

There have been dozens of posts that claim we should be.

I don't disagree we shouldn't have been more prepared however it's deluded to think people here in the UK would give up their livelihoods & freedoms when Covid wasn't even called Covid until Feb.

However @BasiliskEgg you still haven't explained how you would have done it expect closing schools.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 23/01/2021 18:47

@Emmie2021

They had on our local news a story of a105 year old woman being vaccinated just after surviving Covid

Amazing woman but also didn’t understand why she needs the vaccine if she just had the actual cv . Mad

Because the vaccine gives you greater immunity than having Covid.
MadinMarch · 23/01/2021 18:47

@Candidamelana
Agree re trying to blackmail us emotionally.
Why should Young healthy people’s lives be curtailed for the sake of a virus that kills barely anyone apart from the over 80s. Why can’t people be trusted to take responsibility and use their common sense ?
I wouldn’t be surprised if the so called patients in the new ad were just actors.Candidamelana

I'm pretty sure that the 10,000 or so people a week that are currently dying from Covid in the UK are not all over 80 years old.
As for 'common sense' there seems very little of that around unfortunately.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 23/01/2021 18:47

@IcedPurple

I can't stand the 'Stay at home' (or similar) slogan in the top corner of the screen, like C4 and some other channels have.

Firstly, if I'm watching TV chances are pretty high that I am, in fact, at home. Secondly, what qualifies them to tell people what to do? I watch TV to be entertained, not admonished.

Yes, this!! The traffic & travel news on the local radio always starts with "only leave the house for essential travel..." fuck OFF!

We just don’t put the tv on, or the brainwash box as I call it Haven’t all year Couldn’t even bear the mealy mouthed adverts at the beginning that had to flipping drag covid into them every time No news, no briefings = no fear So many people are having quiet rebellions now People are saying enough is enough No you aren’t being unreasonable You are being very sensible And protecting your mental health
LucilleTheVampireBat · 23/01/2021 18:48

10,000 people a week are dieing?! Have you literally just made that up!

countrybumpkintocityslicker · 23/01/2021 18:49

It is a tragedy if someone dies, whatever their age, if they die unnecessarily & without their family around them. It's not a tragedy at 98. It's expected. A tragedy is a young mother dying of breast cancer, or a teen developing anorexia, or an autistic child who can no longer cope. Or even a very normal wife and mother totally losing her marbles due to isolation. Humans are a very social breed. This isolation is unprecedented. Rolling news items about covid, covid, covid - nobody can take it anymore!

😂

Sheer ignorance. No wonder people are scared if this is what they think is happening. Poor bastards.

Dowser · 23/01/2021 18:50

@LucilleTheVampireBat
Oh yes m no radio either
Equally depressing

When a journo realises people are turning off in droves and revenue is being lost
They might start treating us like adults again

OppsUpsSide · 23/01/2021 18:51

So you think they should start restricting medical care dependent on age? I think you are on a slippery slope in arguing for your father in law to receive care in that case.

I think they should prioritise care according to urgency. Would hate to be a HCP right now.

countrybumpkintocityslicker · 23/01/2021 18:51

I don't think that I would call it propaganda necessarily. Just a constant focus on something which becomes tedious over time.

janj2301 · 23/01/2021 18:51

My husband records the BBC Breakfast news so he can fast forwrd through the propaganda (and the weather) but he calls the show the Covid News, has done since March

Timbucktime · 23/01/2021 18:51

It would be good to have non bias information from independent scientists, professors etc who have no connection to the government, pharmaceutical companies etc.

I think this would help a lot of people. Unfortunately I have to admit there never seems to be anything like this on MSM. Why won’t they publish other thoughts and ideas?

AcornAutumn · 23/01/2021 18:53

@TheKeatingFive

For their family im sure it is a tragedy

Naturally, but calling it out as a tragedy on national tv?

In any year, a 98 year olds dying in a nursing homes would be a fairly expected event.

Fuck it

I'm just going to say it

There's a high chance of it being a massive relief for the family, and not just at 98.

People who are sick of this - I don't watch the news. i mute ads.

Information from the NHS is very good, the people collating this do an excellent job

www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-daily-deaths/

There is no need to subject yourself to this propaganda.

I'd like someone to do an ad saying "look me in the eye and tell me you wanted the entire country shut down so you didn't die." But that would be wrong - I know any sane person wouldn't want this to prevent their death. The only person who would look me in the eye and say it is Boris Johnson.

Aprilrainbow · 23/01/2021 18:53

OP, you must be exhausted with all those name changes.

BasiliskEgg · 23/01/2021 18:53

That information is readily available. A quick Google would tell you as much.
