Endless Propaganda

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

Basilisk I meant Johnson thinks his life is important enough to warrant this because his ego is that big.

I don't think they are following these policies to save the old and vulnerable. They would have much better infection control in place if they cared about humans of any age.

I know someone will ask so feel free to AS me on the Covid board to find my long list of preferences for infection control measures and "what would you have done" answers.

I shouldn't really have posted but the 98 year old stuff got to me. I was so relieved when my gran went and I am glad my father didn't reach that age.

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 23/01/2021 19:03

It’s not just the news, it’s literally eveywhere. Signs on walls, fences, bus stops, lamp posts. Everywhere!

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 19:04

@gettingolderbutcooler

You are being a selfish thoughtless cow. Turn over if you don't want to see it. Plenty of people dying and suffering- but god forbid you see that. Tell you what- give your £5 a month to oxfam so you can tell everybody that you love to help people and you're so caring. And shut the fuck up.
Grin Now then.

I don't think I said that I love to help people.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 23/01/2021 19:04

Yes, because the government let the cases rise to a point where the NHS couldn't cope. Sorry but are people just wilfully misunderstanding this?

@BasiliskEgg

Don't you understand, if we didn't lockdown & we just let COVID run riot, hospitals would be empty & all the fields would be green.

Honestly, you can explain the concept of protecting the NHS until you're blue in the face, but people are either not very bright or just won't accept the situation.

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 19:05

@InTheDrunkTank

You're an idiot OP. It's not propoganda because you don't like it. It's expert opinion. You can have the opinion that going out is worth hundreds of thousands of deaths (and not just from covid) but you can't deny that's what would happen. You're obviously not an expert in anything so you can't expect to be form an intelligent opinion on an incredibly complex scientific issue. You're not clever or educated enough.
Love you too xx

The more Saint Boris and his merry men spout these stupid slogans, the less credible they look, and the more I plot my secret disobedience.

Bingo card primed for Boris's eventual U-turn on the gloomy narrative, for the phrase "the vaccine is working".

GoldSlipper · 23/01/2021 19:06

Recently another Mumsnetter posted an image from her local council that basically said if you go outside people will die. If that's not madness I don't know what is!

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 19:06

The NHS falls over every year. Time for a re-haul of the old girl.

And shut the fuck up.
Turn over if you don't want to see it.

Why don't you take your own advice? It's not a requirement of MNs to read & comment on every thread.

NorbertMeubles · 23/01/2021 19:07

Was thinking the very same yesterday OP. Actually relieved by your post and the replies to see it's not just me who is thinking this.

ZippedyDooDa · 23/01/2021 19:07

This thread is a very sad reminder that ignorance, stupidity and selfishness are still so prevalant in our society.

Pissedoff1234 · 23/01/2021 19:08

Well I'm confused. I'm not watching much tv because of the propaganda. I'm staying in all of the time, wfh, kids at home, shopping delivered.

Tomorrow for the first time since schools were open I am meeting a friend for a walk to get out of the house for an hour. We are literally walking around the streets close to our house. Is this not allowed. Are the government putting up adverts saying we will kill granny if we do this. Surely being outside with one person is still ok.

lockdownshmockdown · 23/01/2021 19:08

OP is on the money. Some of the replies on this thread are hilarious.

gasgig · 23/01/2021 19:09

I understand protecting the NHS & lockdown however as a healthy 30 something I'm unlikely to die by going outside or not bleaching my shopping.

gettingolderbutcooler · 23/01/2021 19:09

No dear- I didn't say you were caring either.
😬

In my book yes it is.
gasgig · 23/01/2021 19:10

What if you trip & break your ankle & overwhelm the NHS?

Notthemessiah · 23/01/2021 19:10

People also just can't quite seem to comprehend that, yes, them taking a small risk while being careful may well not cause a problem IN ISOLATION but everyone doing it and all those small risks suddenly start to add up to something much bigger.

Either they don't want to see it or they are just immensely stupid.

Forgetmenot157 · 23/01/2021 19:10

@BasiliskEgg

The world has gone mad - news reports calling a 98 year old in a care home dying a tragedy

I should think its not so much that they died but that they probably died alone without family present, sometimes after months of isolation, no? Wouldn't you say that was tragic or is that OK with you?

Yes absutely this is tragic...... But what caused this tragedy... Its wasn't covid that physically stopped them having family there... It is the restrictions that caused that!
Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/01/2021 19:10

Don't worry about it, Bewareoftheblob - I find, when folk start a post with an insult, that they've usually got little to say (and even less of an argument)

Dowser · 23/01/2021 19:11

@Bewareoftheblob

I'm not trying to avoid news about the pandemic, I'm saying that I'd rather the BBC didn't lay on the manipulation quite so blatantly

^^
I am and managing quite nicely so far.

Miljea · 23/01/2021 19:12

@pucelleauxblanchesmains

The new "look them in the eye" ads are something else. How about the government look people in the eye and tell them they didn't want to pay people enough to isolate?
This. This ad was filmed in my Trust.

You'd 'laugh dryly' when it was posted on the Trust's Staff FB page; it was an embarrassing pile on of Band 7s and 8 non-clinicals 'Sharing'; and 'affirming' that 'Covid is Real'....

Yes, but your likelihood of dying from it is very small.

Forgetmenot157 · 23/01/2021 19:12

This is just it tho. So essentially it's not the virus that's to blame for restrictions.... Its the silly actions of a small amount of people...

If that's the case then I would say that's more scary than the virus itself that our whole lived can be turned upside down because of a small minority of idiots.

frumpety · 23/01/2021 19:13

@Bewareoftheblob

There have always been years with high excess death rates.

Absolutely there have, but an actual bona fide World wide pandemic, effecting every single country in the world simultaneaously ? Not so many, which is why it is so newsworthy.
Is the BBC lying to you and the rest of the country ? Are they making up the scenes they film ? Are they using actors/film sets ? Do you believe they are only showing the images to make you think and act in a certain manner, why would they do that and who benefits the most from that change in behaviour ?

gasgig · 23/01/2021 19:13

Yep relative died in a care home in April, utter shit that most family couldn't attend or grieve together.
