Endless Propaganda

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 17:36

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

Absolutely. The government and the media have done a marvellous job building up hysteria and terror so they can maintain compliance and keep people clicking on the stories on their websites...but for how much longer?

AlwaysLatte · 23/01/2021 18:22

I am amazed that people are still uneducated about this. Do you need simple board books to help you understand? So even if you don't care about tens of thousands of people 'old and past their best' or with other health issues dying every week, which is what would happen if the virus was allowed to just rip through:
YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WIlLL HAVE NO HEALTH SERVICE.
Please, don't be utterly stupid.

gasgig · 23/01/2021 18:22

Just some kind of balance would be nice not the constant, ram-down-your-throat propaganda that's going on

Agree, I understand the need for lockdown but can we discuss the fallout.

Lastfreakinglegs · 23/01/2021 18:22

Yes I'm over it. The news reporting is so unbalanced. What about the fact the economy has tanked and the Conservative government has borrowed more than in all know history. If I was a skeptic I would say they are crashing the economy on purpose. How are they going to pay off all this national debt?

gasgig · 23/01/2021 18:23

Do you really think if people are having parties that a shit advert is going to make them reconsider?
Bingo!

Theunamedcat · 23/01/2021 18:24

@IcedPurple

The only reason you could know they were 'out and about' - which is allowed - is if you too were 'out and about'.

No I just listen to the traffic outside my house to know people are out and about and since we had a snowflake even more people are out and about 🤷‍♂️

AlwaysLatte · 23/01/2021 18:25

The only time I'm out and about is when I'm providing care to my elderly parents. The traffic this lockdown compared to the last lockdown is noticeably busier than the last.

lockdownshmockdown · 23/01/2021 18:25

Agreed! One of the many reasons I don't have a television.

Calm down dear. No one here is being “so utterly stupid”. We are simply engaging in a conversation about how the government and media have done a wonderful job of terrifying a nation with their, often, baseless propaganda
TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2021 18:25

YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WIlLL HAVE NO HEALTH SERVICE.

It’s not going to exist in its current form for much longer anyway as all the lockdowns have decimated tax revenue for the exchequer. Watch this hit public services like a tonne of bricks very soon.

They don't need your permission to be 'out and about' though. Maybe you should join them and get some fresh air? Might do you good. Surely better than fretting over random strangers doing what they're allowed to do.

Some people might have to go shopping, go to work, medical appointments etc. Not everyone can or should shut themselves up for months.
Love2cycle · 23/01/2021 18:28

When I think about the virus, I know it's very bad and killing lots of people, but I can accept the situation. I have friends in hospital and I'm sad and worry.
But, when I think about the short and long term affects of lockdown, I feel physically sick. It's like my mind won't let me go there because it's to awful to contemplate.

This is the exact reaction the Gov campaign aims to elicit
Lastfreakinglegs · 23/01/2021 18:28

Watch them use this lockdown as a justification to sell off the NHS to America to pay for the debt borrowed. Bye bye free health care.

Bingo. No funding for the NHS or schools. Best get used to the idea of homeschooling and paying private. The rich will be fine though - so that’s a relief!
SecretDoor · 23/01/2021 18:29

@Candidamelena

Agree re trying to blackmail us emotionally. Why should Young healthy people’s lives be curtailed for the sake of a virus that kills barely anyone apart from the over 80s. Why can’t people be trusted to take responsibility and use their common sense ? I wouldn’t be surprised if the so called patients in the new ad were just actors.
This was filmed at the hospital I work at earlier this week. These are real staff and real patients .

It is relentless at work. The increase in numbers of younger patients coming in to our hospital currently is horrific to see.

gasgig · 23/01/2021 18:29

Yeah I'm in my 30s, even pre Covid I didn't expect the NHS to exist in its current form when I'm 60. State pension likely to move out again.

What would you have done then?

If I were in charge, I'd have implemented a full lockdown in February, got a decent test and trace system and closed all borders. Then when opening up enforced proper hotel quarantine on all arrivals returning from abroad as well as providing proper support to those who needed to self isolate, with sanctions for employers refusing to pay sick pay in full.

What would you have done? Just shielded the vulnerable and let the rest of us crack on? How How you think that would have worked out?

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2021 18:30

WE DON'T HAVE A HEALTH SERVICE NOW. How can you be uneducated about the numbers dying from, or suffering with non-Covid issues? We aren't 'protecting the NHS' or 'stopping it being overwhelmed'. It's nothing more than a poorly functioning Covid service now. I would have more support for the government's action if they had done one single thing to improve any aspect of the NHS in the last twelve months. They haven't and I don't believe they intend to.
BasiliskEgg · 23/01/2021 18:30

refusing to pay sick pay in full

That should say refusing to pay in full vs just sick pay.

Meh. We've had pretty much no health service over the past year. My father in law's cancer op was cancelled last week 'because of covid'. 'Hopefully' they'll be able to do it 'soon'.

I had an angry covidiot leave a nasty note on my car when I drove 3 miles to take my 2 children to the beach. Apparently I was being selfish because I wasn't stuck at home thrashing myself on the back with willow branches and saying hail Mary. Hmm

God this does my head in!!! So you had a valid reason to be out but you can't imagine anyone else does?! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
