Endless Propaganda

Bewareoftheblob · 23/01/2021 17:36

I cannot believe the endless Covid propaganda on the news channels at the moment. There doesn't seem to be any challenge to the stay at home/don't kill Gran/crying nurses narrative at all.

I am pretty disgusted by the emotional manipulation and attempts at behaviour modification going on.

Or am I being unreasonable...

Wtaf? Is this thread a joke?

afternooncuppa · 23/01/2021 20:14

@AlwaysLatte

I am amazed that people are still uneducated about this. Do you need simple board books to help you understand? So even if you don't care about tens of thousands of people 'old and past their best' or with other health issues dying every week, which is what would happen if the virus was allowed to just rip through: YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES WIlLL HAVE NO HEALTH SERVICE. Please, don't be utterly stupid.
AND WITH NO ECONOMY THERE WILL BE NO HEALTH SERVICE.

Please don't be even more utterly stupid.

littlepattilou · 23/01/2021 20:14

@Bewareoftheblob

I hate to say this, but I do agree with you.

I am so off-the-charts fucked off with it all now, and lockdown needs to end soon. Another 2 weeks preferably.

istherelifeafter40 · 23/01/2021 20:15

What coronavirus has taught me is that I gave people too much credit. Sadly, I see that the amount of morons is just overwhelming

littlepattilou · 23/01/2021 20:15

There is also the fact that 10s of 1000s of people are dying from conditions that are not being dealt with/cured because of bastard covid19.

istherelifeafter40 · 23/01/2021 20:15

They seem to be able to read and write but are illiterate.

littlepattilou · 23/01/2021 20:16

Sadly, it looks like a few people have made it onto this thread, who have been brainwashed.

littlepattilou · 23/01/2021 20:17

Brainwashed by the media and the powers that be.

dingit · 23/01/2021 20:19

I do think it was a huge coincidence that the day they reported the R rate was below 1, Boris was announcing that the new strain was more deadly. Scientists are now saying that the evidence is not yet clear.
By all means report facts, but don't treat us like idiots. This affected a lot of people's mental health and scared people shirtless.

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2021 20:21

He should have just died of old age in his sleep.

Unfortunately it’s not just a choice between this or Covid.

I’ve seen people die of a variety of things. Most were awful.

CountessFrog · 23/01/2021 20:21

Did anyone see the bbc news on Thursday night? The special report showing the inside of graves as they were being dug?

The level of transparent propaganda actually left me royally fucked off. Those who are going to be scared by that are the same people following the rules. I havent watched the news since, and I’m usually glued to it.

It’s fucked me off so much that I now feel utterly maverick. The government need to think again.

Brainwashed by the media and the powers that be.

To what end ? what is the point of the brainwashing by the media and the powers that be ?

CountessFrog · 23/01/2021 20:25

To make stupid people follow rules. Because these seem to be the ones quite resistant to it.

They have to use quite a blunt instrument to get through their thick skulls, hence the ridiculous propaganda

Enforcement is difficult so it’s a tool

hexonthebeach · 23/01/2021 20:31

I just popped to the shop and the road sign warned me to "avoid journeys to save lives" - it's all bollocks, none of it makes sense

frumpety · 23/01/2021 20:33

Still not really answering the question as to the end game ? Why the need to get people to do anything ? Why does the Government want people to behave in a certain way ? How does it benefit the Government ? It must be to benefit the Government if it is propaganda ?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/01/2021 20:34

"Moron" seems to be a new favourite word on MN doesn't it? And there I was, remembering a time we were told it was prejudicial and shouldn't be used

Even Lord Sumption seems to qualify - guy with a brain the size of a planet but still it's said

Shame, really ...

Backbee · 23/01/2021 20:36

I hate hate hate the new ads with the 3 people with Covid with the taglines saying like did you think of me when breaking the rules or whatever it is. Disgraceful, as if people aren't made to feel shit enough as it is for going to work (as they have to), or doing a weekly shop. The people who disregard the rules at this point, when the info is well out there, even if you don't engage with the news or papers it's everywhere, aren't going to change their mind after looking at those. It just means those who perhaps have inadvertently passed it on, ironically including those in the NHS who were given fuck all PPE at the start etc are made to feel bad.

SwimSwim · 23/01/2021 20:37

Completely agree, I'm horrified by the "if you bend the rules, people will die". How can that be allowed??!!

It helps by meeting the objective of not overwhelming ICU

It’s our main issue

Yohoheaveho · 23/01/2021 20:39

it's ridic!
celebs etc breaking the rules b/c they're too important to do what the plebs have to
and gvt trying to make someone who cant afford to isolate feel guilty, piling pressure on people who are already struggling and at breaking point, feels like they are trying to crash the country

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 23/01/2021 20:42

@carlaCox

I chatted to a friend today whose elderly relative has not seen family in months, had a fall earlier in the week and got taken into hospital. Within a couple of days she had contracted covid and is now on oxygen.

When you look at the data you find that 25% of people who were hospitalised with covid in December had contracted it in the hospital. With all due respect to our doctors and nurses, why is this not a national scandal? Why aren't the press talking about this?

Quite. This is the NHS already being overwhelmed.

Are only clever people susceptible to this kind of conditioning then? It's because I'm so stupid that it's not working?

Exactly this..... Brois spends half his life refusing to give answers as he is not certain or sure about things...

However as soon as it can be used aginst the public he's happy to say about higher mortality and then have to leave it to the scientists to put things in perspective...

As valance even said... A 0.3% increase In a Tiny number just gives us a slightly bigger tiny number. He then even had to lay out the fact they were not sure atall.

OwlWearingGlasses · 23/01/2021 20:55

Because they need to encourage people to stick to the rules. Otherwise we will be in even worse trouble than we are now.
Have you seen how the NHS is doing at the moment? Have you seen the excess deaths?
The other option is a China type lockdown, which should actually do the trick and we could be back to normal, but I don't think I would like that and I suspect not many others would.
One option that really would equal disaster would be people ignoring restrictions and allowing the virus free reign- the damage to the economy would be awful, the effects on children's education would be worse than it is now, the NHS would collapse and deaths would be unthinkable with so many ill people at one time, dying, or left incapacitated by long COVID/organ damage.
