Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

I am absolutely fine now. For reference a few days of chills and headaches. All gone now. Was able to work through it all and take care of young children etc. Agree - get the vaccine!!!

Imkindreally · 05/03/2021 18:26

Few days on and I’m fine thankfully. Few chills here and there but my thyroid is off so likely that.

DH had his this morning - AZ - and despite never having an issue with injections came out saying it really hurt and he was surprised. He’s moaned of a sore arm on and off but about 30mins ago started feeling very very cold and is now in bed shivering and feeling exhausted

Frozenintime · 05/03/2021 19:05

Feeling a lot better tonight ☺️

Newpotplants · 05/03/2021 23:30

I didn't even feel the injection , no side effects whatsoever

PointlessUsername · 05/03/2021 23:33

No nasty side effects here.

Maybe coincidence but have had alot of intense dreams since the vacination Confused

fightingSmiths · 06/03/2021 06:47

had the AZ yesterday. Arm a bit sore (just like flu vaccine). no other side effects. I tend to get headaches so was fully prepared to wake up with a heavy head but nothing.

Bati · 06/03/2021 07:05

I had astra zenica vaccine Thursday afternoon. I was fine till Thursday evening when I started with a headache. Didn't sleep much that night, felt hot and just not right.
Yesterday (day after) I had headache and was slightly achy but paraceltomol helped.
Slept properly last night but still have my headache this morning.
Hopefully I will be fine later today.
Totally worth a couple of days of feeling slightly under the weather if it means getting back to normal soon x

CeeJay81 · 06/03/2021 07:11

Had AZ yesterday and feel fine apart from a sore arm and a slight headache. Was prepared to feel worse, so i'm happy.

Woodandsky · 06/03/2021 11:16

Update on my experience, had the vaccine Thursday afternoon, slightly sore arm only symptoms until Friday afternoon, then Friday afternoon and evening felt really tired like I was going down with something, this morning (Saturday) feel absolutely fine.

MeolsCop · 06/03/2021 11:34

Just coming back to say that I'm now feeling absolutely fine after my 'off' day on Friday (the day after the jab). I spent most of it in bed asleep. The only symptom now is a slightly achey arm where the vaccine went in, but nothing bothersome.

DenisetheMenace · 06/03/2021 11:47

There was a really interesting piece on Radio 4 last week (might have been Inside Science, can’t remember) about quite high numbers of people who have been suffering from long Covid reporting to their medical professionals on significant improvements following their vaccinations.
A doctor running a long Covid clinic said it’s not much more than anecdotal atm but there are so many reports that it can’t be ignored and research will be undertaken.
If true, that would be fantastic. Not only preventative but potentially therapeutic too.

Furrybutts · 06/03/2021 15:34

Haven't read the full thread but I had my vaccine last Thursday morning, and was fine until around tea time. Then felt extremely tired. Went to bed at 7pm. I was freezing cold despite having PJ's on and an extra blanket. I woke at 1am with a fever and was delirious.
I tried to get up for a drink, and was weak. I thought my bedroom carpet had been replaced with a forest floor Confused and while walking to the kitchen, could actually feel and hear the leaves underfoot!
The kitchen was one from an old house I lived in over 20 years ago.

I got back to bed and felt truly dreadful. Tossed and turned for the rest of the night. Had to drag myself up for work in the morning.
Managed 2 hours at work and had to come home.
My whole body was aching and I had a feeling like my ribs were being compressed.
Last night I slept off and on but had terrible pain-somnia.
Today I feel fine.

Magic1231 · 06/03/2021 18:17

How many days did most of you have symptoms for.. I see a lot of people say 24 hours and they were fine, not too many past that.

I had mine Wednesday afternoon, felt a bit rough during the night, then the following day my arm was hurting a lot which comes to be expected, felt not too bad all day Thursday bar a bit of a headache... then that night started feeling chills, thought I might be on the mend yesterday despite feeling very weak but then today i seem to feel worse Confused mostly just very weak.
Still worth it obviously! Just hoping to feel better soon xxx

Newpotplants · 06/03/2021 20:08

I had mine Thursday, felt completely fine but weirdly feel exhausted now...2 days later.

2Sangrias · 06/03/2021 20:12

I had mine a few weeks ago.

Day 1 - Fine that day/night.
Day 2 - Headache in the morning, then felt freezing and shivery and body aches later in the day.
Day 3 & 4 - absolutely exhausted and aching all over.

Right as rain after that!

Magic1231 · 06/03/2021 20:30

@2sangrias Your experience sounds very similar to mine except rather than aching I just feel extremely week and that general unwell feeling.. I'm on day 3. Gives me hope I'll bounce back though haha, glad you're feeling better xxx

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 06/03/2021 23:36

If your temperature goes above 40
Is that not dangerous? Read in another thread about how their husbands temperature shot to 40...that worries me

AliceSprings123 · 06/03/2021 23:48

I'm in Birmingham, 2 nurses came to my home vaccinate me, and my 2nd jab was booked at the same time. btw, I was given a credit card sized NHS card with the name of the vaccine and the date given on it - handy to keep in my wallet. Neat!

Bumpsadaisie · 07/03/2021 00:13

Had AZ this morning. Almost immediately after felt slightly dizzy and definite metallic taste.

Felt weary late pm but other than that feel ok.

goldendog · 07/03/2021 07:06

I feel so ill! Had the Oxford AZ vaccine yesterday morning. By 6pm I had a pounding headache and heaving stomach. And then the chills started. They were so bad I couldn’t speak for an hour as my teeth were chattering! Since then I’ve tried to sleep, not very successfully. Temp now 39.5. I am miserable. Having dodged covid for a year I now feel pretty sick. Grateful I’ve had the vaccine of course but I was not prepared for this quite extreme reaction.

Wherediditgo · 07/03/2021 07:13

This is really really putting me off having it.
I’ve had suspected Covid twice and was nowhere near as bad as these side effects!!!

EasterIssland · 07/03/2021 07:17

Headache yesterday and calf pain at night. Barely slept ans woke up with 37.8. And pain where the vaccine went

goldendog · 07/03/2021 07:33

Wherediditgo - please don't let people's comments put you off having the vaccine! The effects will be short lived compared to having to live with long covid, which is always a risk should you catch it again. And remember that many people have no side effects at all. You may well be one of those!

tiredteacher100 · 07/03/2021 07:55

Tender vaccination site on arm. That's all. Please don't be put off having the vaccine, no one I know had severe side effects from the vaccine, but I do know people with long Covid. I know which I would rather have Confused

GoLightlyontheEarth · 07/03/2021 08:02

My OH had his a few days ago. High temp that night overnight, feeling very cold, headaches, nausea, brain fog. It also seemed to affect his nervous system. He is still feeling rough.
