Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

LeSquigh · 19/01/2021 06:44

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

Dh & I had ours Friday afternoon, apart from feeling a bit hot in the night, we felt absolutely fine. I did an hours combat the next day and Dh worked outside all day. My arms barely sore at all. Friend done Friday and also fine.

LemonSherbetFancies · 07/03/2021 08:17

Also terrified after reading this thread.
I can't afford to be laid up ill for days, have grandkids to look after this week.
I am really worried now. Seems to be rare NOT to be ill after having it. Confused

Stickytreacle · 07/03/2021 08:28

I know more people who've been fine after having it, out of my family there is only me so far who had side effects, (after saying I was fine initially!) and while I felt rough I was able to continue with daily tasks with paracetamol.

The vaccine rollout is so important for everyones health and safety and return to normality. Please don't be put off having it, I'm sure the majority of people are fine.

Angel2702 · 07/03/2021 08:42

I had no reaction at all, not even a sore arm. I wouldn’t have known I had it the next day. My SIL also had AZ and no reaction at all.

Powerplant · 07/03/2021 08:46

Had mine yesterday and was dreading the side effects after reading this thread. I woke up this morning feeling slightly achy. Took paracetamol when I got home and before I went to bed and have just taken a couple now. Other members of my family have been fine after theirs other than maybe a sore arm for a while.

cafedesreves · 07/03/2021 08:49

I had it and am absolutely fine!

BunnyRuddington · 07/03/2021 08:53

I had it yesterday. My only symptom is that I was really tired last night. Went to bed at 9.30 pm!

noimnotdoingit · 07/03/2021 08:53

Yup, had a night of sweats, chills, headache and feeling flu-ey. Felt better but just tired the next day.

I had the same reaction to a flu jab years ago (and haven't bothered taking them since).

It's actually positive though, think of it as your body mounting a great big f- off campaign to Covid.

I think they're probably not being honest about how common this is, but it's a short period of time, shorter than the real thing :-)

Springquartet · 07/03/2021 09:08

Had this vaccine at about 8.15 am yesterday. Felt fine until I went out at 4.00pm and noticed how tired I felt. Kept going until about 9.00pm and went to bed feeling chilled. I had socks on but my feet were so cold I wrapped them in a jumper. Also had to put my dressing gown on in bed. Woke several times feeling hot. Got up this morning with aches and very red cheeks. I am not entirely surprised as I had Covid and had read that anecdotally, I would be more likely to experience side effects. This shouldn't put anyone off as the side effects, though not great, are a worthwhile price to prevent Covid, which is a horrible and really scared experience.

Anon778833 · 07/03/2021 09:10

I had AZ about 10 days ago. I had two days of feeling achey & tired and that was about it.

Disneymum1993 · 07/03/2021 09:11

I had mine Friday at 3pm by 9pm
My temperature was 39.3,shaking uncontrollably, muscle aches and couldn't stop vomiting .
I'm 27 most people I know who have had it are over 40 and they didn't get any side effects except sore arm .

LApprentiSorcier · 07/03/2021 09:17

Symptoms started about 18 hours after jab - aches and pains all over, sore arm, temperature higher than normal (not by much but made me feel as though I was on fire). I'm in my mid-40s.

I consoled myself by thinking of it as my immune response having a dress-rehearsal.

FlemCandango · 07/03/2021 09:21

I had AZ jab on Thursday. I am CV and an very grateful that I have Benn vaxxed. I have the flu jab every year and was prepared for some soreness at the injection site, and feeling a little bit tired after.

Thursday night - not bad, slightly aching arm.

Friday - felt awful, tired, constant headache, dizzy, nauseous, achey, chills. Spent day under duvet on sofa.

Saturday - woke early hours in a sweat, headache and literally could not get out of bed. Later in morning made it to sofa, headache went by lunchtime. Left with post viral tired feeling.

Sunday morning (now) had horrific dreams, feverish during the night. Headache and swollen glands in neck so will take paracetamol.

My immune system doesn't mess around. I am really glad I have been vaxxed and I urge people not to be put off if I got Covid it probably wouldn't kill me but I have lungs with pre-existing damage (Bronchiectasis) so I would be buggered long term. I will be enthusiastically booking my second jab and will time it carefully to avoid needing to work after for a couple of days.

OverTheRubicon · 07/03/2021 09:30

Felt a bit tired and rough for 24 hours, but manageable. I'm sure many people are badly affected, but when a whole workplace is down, I also wonder if either there's actual covid about, or whether people are either very suggestible or taking the piss. Nocebo effect is a real thing - and interestingly, women are particularly susceptible to it - ie showing negative side effects even when given a placebo and particularly if warned about those side effects (men seem to have a stronger placebo effect).

Downriver · 07/03/2021 09:33

Has anyone had burning itchy skin a week after the AZ vaccine. Want to know if the effects can be ongoing.

ScarletORyan · 07/03/2021 10:00

Vaccine Thursday morning, started to feel achy Thursday evening. Ached all night with temp. Whole body aches and stabbing pains in joints all Friday, very fatigued. Saturday feeling much better, still a bit tired and achy. Sunday - continuing tiredness and stiff joints. Hopefully this means I have put up a strong immune response!

ScarletORyan · 07/03/2021 10:02

I do have a history of auto-immune conditions so I'm not particularly surprised my immune system has reacted strongly.

FlemCandango · 07/03/2021 10:13

Just came down and unloaded/ loaded dishwasher, now feeling clammy and a bit light headed! So not right yet, headache sorted by paracetamol so I can cope with the rest.

I dont think I was affected by others experience, I have annual flu vaccination, I have regular chest infections, I have a mild response to flu Vax I expected the same to be the case with Covid Vax. I was thinking on Thursday that I was just going to have the usual sore arm.

Magic1231 · 07/03/2021 11:31

Do you think for some reason women suffer worse side effects? Maybe just a coincidence but of the several couples I know that have had the vaccine it always seems to go that the mans absolutely fine afterwards where as the woman gets side effects xxx

DenisetheMenace · 07/03/2021 11:37

Wherediditgo

This is really really putting me off having it.
I’ve had suspected Covid twice and was nowhere near as bad as these side effects!!!“

Please don’t let it put you off. For the few commenting on here, there are millions who suffered no ill effects/very minor ones.

For everyone’s sake we all need to have the vaccines if we can.

Elcantador · 07/03/2021 12:03

My symptoms started 5 hours after getting the jab. Brain fog, nausea, shivering muscle pain. Then my temperature went up to 38.7. Had an awful night, really bad headache. Started to feel better the next day but still tired, achey. I was suprised by my body's reaction. When i had the flu jab i had no issues.
Please dont let this put you off. I know lots of people who had no side effects at all.

ScarletORyan · 07/03/2021 12:12

Yes, please do go ahead with vaccine. DH had almost no symptoms except tiredness.

Mylittlesandwich · 07/03/2021 12:20

I had the AZ vaccine yesterday afternoon. I slept like a log last night (very unusual for me but not unpleasant). Today I'm still a little sleepy and I have a sore arm. That's all. No other horrible side effects. My mum had the Pfizer last week and her side effects were almost identical.
FlemCandango · 07/03/2021 12:26

Anyone having wobbles about being vaxxed please don't - I have no regrets and will happily book my next vaccination. Feeling like poo for a couple of days is worth it 1000% and not everyone is the same I still believe the majority of people are having minor reactions. All mine were listed in the possible side affects.

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 07/03/2021 12:30

It’s putting me off as well. This is so different to the flu vaccine for the majority when out comes to the side effects.
Funny I’m by trying to safe myself from COVID end up in the hospital due to the vaccine...
