Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

LeSquigh · 19/01/2021 06:44

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

I must say after 15 years of being on here and reading a lot of your opinions on various matters over the time I'm so so surprised that you are reluctant!

As the Queen said you're doing it for the good of everyone so just roll your sleeve up and get on with it woman.

Gwenhwyfar · 11/03/2021 20:22

@Xenia

I don't agree with the point that compared with the side effects of covid the vaccine is mild. Loads of people have covid with no symptoms. So are not saying I should risk being pretty ill for 2 days to avoid ICU or long covid. We are doing a calculation about chances of my catching covid in the 4 or 6 months before the vaccine wears off ie over the spring and summer given I don't go out much against the chances I have covid badly rather than covid mildly or with no symptoms.
I agree with you, but everyone who can should get the vaccine. It's our only way out of this mess at the moment.

This repeats a deleted post so we are taking this one down too.

That's complete nonsense @bearandowl. And your claims of fascism are risible.

BIWI · 11/03/2021 21:43

You've already had one anti-vaxx post deleted on this thread.

Stop posting this stuff.

bearandowl · 11/03/2021 21:46

Why should I stop posting? Are we no longer a free country?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2021 21:46

I had mine yesterday and I don’t feel great, but it is tolerable. Aches and feeling chilly, sore arm . Like a bad cold.

willibald · 11/03/2021 21:46

Just had it. Sore arm and feeling a bit tired.

I have a question- when I have the vaccine and incase I go into anaphylactic shock are the hubs where the vaccine is being given out really equipped to deal with this? Hospitals, GP surgeries would be but there are so many different places like community hubs now doing this, with staff who may or may not had the training -are they really equipped and knowledgeable on this front?
Have you had a severe allergic reaction before?
Wondermule · 11/03/2021 21:56

Had mine yesterday. Initially was fine, woke up at 4am with a temperature and aching muscles - particularly bad down my spine and back of the neck. Thought I had slept it off but it seems to have come back tonight, albeit mildly. Paracetamol helps.

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 11/03/2021 22:11

@wondermule yes I have

BlossomOnTrees · 11/03/2021 22:15

Severe pain down left side, particularly in the left breast. Been like this for hours.

Thinking of going to A&E. FML.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 11/03/2021 22:33

I had mine this morning. Muscle ache and joint pain so far. Paracetamol isn't really helping. I've had COVID if that makes a difference.

Wondermule · 11/03/2021 22:39
@wondermule yes I have
In that case can you speak to a pharmacist or GP? When I went, there was a medical bay ready in case of a bad reaction. It all felt very safe to me.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 12/03/2021 00:53

I had the AZ one at 9am yesterday. By 4 pm I could barely stay awake, had chills and a headache. Went to bed early but woke at midnight feeling rough. Hoping I feel better soon but it's not that bad. Don't regret having it.

I'm 56.

CrocodilesCry · 12/03/2021 01:05

Both my dad and stepdad had the Oxford jab - no side effects whatsoever. Just saying.
I think some of these threads are so irresponsible and full of anti-vaxxers. Something really needs to be done about it.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 12/03/2021 02:04

Having mine next week , opted for friday incase any reactions don't know which one I will get until I go but az seems quite popular there

SedentaryCat · 12/03/2021 07:33

I had mine on Wednesday at 8.30am. By 10am I didn't feel 'right' so went for a rest. By 8pm I had shivers, chills and the headache from hell. I tried to tough it out but had to call it a day.

Woke 4am on Thurs with temp of 100.9F and took some painkillers. Felt very rough. Spent the day in bed, mostly asleep, and got up at 8pm for a wander around and some food.

Still not right today, but symptoms are very mild - the injection site is now raised and red, which they said might happen.

My parents had the jab last month - Mum had no problems, Dad had to spend a couple of days recovering.

I'd still opt for vaccination rather than disease.

willibald · 12/03/2021 07:34

I had a pretty bad night - chills and sweats and now have a cracking headache. Just took paracetamol. Luckily I work from home. Still no regrets.

Something needs to be done about it? You mean shut down anyone who has a different opinion to you? I thought we were a democracy?

The plural of anecdote is not data. Absolutely not an anti-vaxxer but I find it hilarious how someone thinks if the TWO people they know out of millions didn't get side effects then it means everyone else is talking shit.

So is the NHS site that lists potential side effects also "irresponsible"?

Is the patient information sheet for the AZ vaccination "irresponsible"?

Are the published papers on AZ trials "irresponsible"?

Is the doctor who administered my AZ vaccination nearly four weeks ago, who ran through potential side effects prior to obtaining my consent, "irresponsible"?

My husband (early 70s) is six years older than me and he had fewer side effects than I did. But even if we'd both felt really rough afterwards, we would not have regretted having had the vaccine. We also have an adult child living with us with a long-term condition that isn't currently included in Tier 6 to protect.

There have been a number of reports that recipients from older age groups may experience fewer side effects than younger age groups and those who have already had C-19.

I'm glad your dad and your stepdad experienced no side effects - but you cannot extrapolate their experience to others.

I struggle to see any "anti-vaxxers" in these threads.
