Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and the side effects

LeSquigh · 19/01/2021 06:44

Morning all

Many of my colleagues have now received the first dose of the Oxford vaccine and every single one of them has reported side effects, quite a large number have had to take time off work and been bedridden. Are we in the minority or is this true for all that have it? Not really looking forward to my turn!

@Mumisnotmyonlyname

I have a sore arm and headache, general fatigue. It's absolutely nothing compared to covid, which I also had last spring.
How old are you? Are you CEV?

I hope someone is studying why some get horrid side effects and others don't.

zenasfuck · 09/02/2021 11:36

I am 38yo, CEV and had the vaccine on Sunday at 11am. I felt fine until 8pm when I developed a headache. By 10pm I had a high temperature, shivering and my entire body hurt. Felt like full blown flu. I am still really unwell now

VaccsyPoxsy · 09/02/2021 11:42

This thread is very helpful- specifically for people who are anxious like me

MadisonAvenue · 09/02/2021 16:02

Just updating.
I had two days of feeling unwell although the second day was slightly easier. It’s now the third day since I was vaccinated and I’ve cleaned the house from top to bottom (and it’s three storey), walked the dog for four miles, done the ironing and walked to the post box and back.

IrmaFayLear · 09/02/2021 16:04

I had the vaccine on Friday at 11.30. I was a bit concerned at first about having no side effects as the vaccinator said they were a sign of a good immune system!

But at 6.30pm I was suddenly freezing, teeth chattering and a temperature. On Saturday I felt crap. On Sunday I felt as if I were getting over a bout of flu. On Monday I felt just a bit tired. Today I feel fine!

IrmaFayLear · 09/02/2021 16:07

@MadisonAvenue - I too was invigorated! I even cleaned underneath the piano . I hope we haven’t been injected with Stepford Wife serum Shock although I wouldn’t say my energy has extended that far... Wink

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 09/02/2021 17:23

Has anyone had a cough as a side affect?

MadisonAvenue · 10/02/2021 00:36

😂 Let’s hope it’s not the Stepford Serum that we got.

BTW like you I was concerned that I wouldn’t have any side effects. I don’t have my spleen so I’m not supposed to have a very strong immune system.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/02/2021 00:39

Geez this isn't the thread I need.
Had mine at 4 pm. Do you reckon if I'm fine now then I won't get any side effects? People seem to have had it quite quickly. I'm not Cev, I am fat.

TheHobbitMum · 10/02/2021 00:44

I am CEV and had the vaccine on Saturday morning and by sunday morning I felt like a bus had hit me. Shivering/high temp, whole body aches, headache, hard to catch my breath, racing heart rate etc just like flu would be. My arm where I had the vaccine has been so, so sore, hot, swollen, itches like crazy but feels like it's under the skin (so I can't actually itch where I need too) and I can't raise my arm. I've never had that reaction to a jab site before.
Thankfully I'm starting to feel a bit more human (arm still the same though) and still glad to have had the jab, rather this than covid. I'm really not looking forward to the second dose now

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 10/02/2021 07:09

@PusheenLove CEV.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 10/02/2021 07:09

@PusheenLove Why do you ask?

TheLaughingGenome · 10/02/2021 07:21

I had my 1st AZ jab yesterday morning (CEV).

I feel fine.

I moved my arm quite a bit afterwards, throughout yesterday, and the injection side is warm but certainly not hot.

I've taken moderately strong pain killers anyway because of arthritis. I had to walk a bit yesterday to the pharmacy, and I've stayed off my normal immunosuppressive drugs for a couple of weeks in advance of the vaccination, so joint pain for me is to be absolutely expected.

choirmumoftwo · 10/02/2021 07:29

Had my first dose on Monday evening. Sleep got headache on Tuesday morning which went with paracetamol, slightly sore arm and I'm tired but not sleeping well anyway. Managed a full day of activity yesterday. I'm 56. Delighted to have had it (nurse in vaccination centre).

Senso21 · 10/02/2021 07:49

I had mine on Friday, felt instantly a bit fuzzy headed and then was fine until I got fever sweats and chills and body aches through the night, nothing unmanageable.
Next day I felt a bit headachy and yuck but again nothing awful, and by Sunday afternoon/Monday I felt absolutely fine.

But yesterday I started feeling a bit fuzzy headed, tired and dizzy, and still feel the same this morning. Wondering if this could still be vaccine side effects or something else?

I have terrible anxiety and it’s been pretty bad since I had the vaccine done (due to over worrying, reading too much news re variants/efficiency etc) so I do feel pretty stressed and on edge, potentially it may be that making me feel a bit dizzy and off.

Just wondering if anyone still not feeling quite right past the 3 day mark x

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 10/02/2021 07:55

I had mine Monday. Yesterday I felt like death yesterday, I had a headache and ached everywhere. Spent the day in bed.

Iv woken up feeling much better x

There's a theory that people

Senso21 · 10/02/2021 10:28

Has anyone else felt dizzy/lightheaded days afterwards?

Worknoplay · 10/02/2021 10:38

DH had it, he was fine at first, had a headache for one day, then a bit of a sore arm. MIL had it, sore arm, felt under the weather for a day, fine after that.

I had covid, 6 days of temperature, blinding headaches for ten days, struggled to get out of bed, was sick, lost sense of taste and smell, had muscle and joint pain, had general fatigue for 4 weeks. Just starting to feel better now.

Vaccine anytime.

I think the OP is making this up, there is an awful lot of people ready to spread fake information on anonymous boards to fit their agenda.

TheLaughingGenome · 10/02/2021 10:50

I've just watched J Van-Tam on BBC2 doing 'Your Questions Answered' with presenters and members of BAME communities. He's very calm but you can tell he's very pissed off with the 'pernicious' misinformation being peddled on social media e.g. over fertility. Worth watching.

SleepingStandingUp · 10/02/2021 10:52

*There's a theory that people

Worknoplay · 10/02/2021 10:52

Of course he is. It's bollox. The government needs to be much more firm on this and stop beating about the bush.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 10/02/2021 15:58

@PusheenLove ah I see! No, the wrong side of 50!

MadisonAvenue · 10/02/2021 16:06

Does that go for everyone on this thread who has reported feeling awful after the first vaccine?
Two of us in my house had the jab, 51 year old me and my 20 year old son, and we both had side effects which really knocked us about.

Radio4Rocks · 10/02/2021 16:11

DH had it yesterday and was fine.
