I do respect him a great deal.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 21:18

Yes Dobby, at one of the pre Christmas press conferences, I think at the point when they were saying we could have people round but they didn’t really want us to, a snidey journalist asked Whitty what he would be doing on Christmas Day, clearly hoping to catch him out. He replied witheringly ‘I’ll be on the wards.’
Then after Christmas a newspaper reported that he really had been spotted in hospital on Christmas Day as if it was in some way a surprise...

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 21:19

I think they talked about Chris Whitty doing rounds on the BBC Newscast show with a doctor who had worked with him. He was a bit flummoxed by the interest, they asked what he actually did and the doctor replied ‘well, he’s an infectious diseases expert..’ which I don’t think was the answer they were after.

I’d like to marry Chris Whitty. I think he’s the man I’ve been waiting for. Imagine being married to a man who has helped save the world. Cos he will.

LetItGoGo · 22/01/2021 21:20

Yes! It was quite a lovely understated answer to a gotcha question.

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 21:20

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I have something, it’s not positive necessarily, but it’s something lovely I didn’t know.

So, Chris Whitty is a real Dr. We know that. I didn’t know he is actually working as a Dr in a london hospital doing shifts and seeing covid patients every week. He works in the infectious diseases department. Still putting in the shifts, despite his responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer.

I don’t know if this is common knowledge. I certainly didn’t know.

Incredible

I was impressed with JCVI guy saying same. Not so surprising but great people

FuzzyPuffling · 22/01/2021 21:21

I'd heard that about Chris Whitty and it really made me feel good. As though he knows what he's talking about and isn't too grand to get down and dirty with the troops.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/01/2021 21:21

You would never see him and he’d always be late home when you were going out to dinner because he’d be busy saving lives.
Van Tam on the other hand looks like he knows how to enjoy himself.

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 21:22

Mind you if I actually met him in a hospital I probably startle

Be too much good Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/01/2021 21:23

I must have missed that conference. He’s a legend and a very humble man.

I don’t know why I thought he was office based, but no, he’s a real Dr. He works at the same hospital as Dr Chris Van Tulleken. (Probably spelled his name wrong) Who is also an infectious disease Dr.

Makes me feel so uplifted to know these incredible people are battling this for us.

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 21:23

Not that I want to be there at any point..

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 21:23

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel. That is exactly the kind of husband I have in mind. The last one was under my feet too much .

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 21:24

@MarshaBradyo I agree , I don’t want to meet him that much ...

Ha I wanted to make the top surgeon for dd cups of tea for his life

And Sir Chris Whitty has a nice ring

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 21:25

@Confusedismyname

Some good news. Our town has a new vaccine centre opening Monday with a capacity for 20,000 a week. Dh is CEV and we’re just waiting for that letter.
20000 that is a lot

Brilliant news

I hope you get that letter on the door mat soon

Confusedismyname · 22/01/2021 21:31

Thanks Truely 😀

pollyhemlock · 22/01/2021 21:33

@PopcornAndWine you will like these threads. They are very helpful. Avoid almost all the others on this topic!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 21:35

Whitty is brilliant and totally down to earth when he talks. Not surprised he is working on the covid wards. So impressive as a person.

Van Tan has been doing shifts in a vaccinating people. There was a photo on here. I can imagine that surprises the public. You go to get jabbed and the expert of the TV is doing it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 21:41

Just seen on Twitter that Pfizer vaccine trial for 12-15 year olds is fully enrolled

FuzzyPuffling · 22/01/2021 21:44

If JVT gave me my vaccination, I think I would have a funny turn.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 21:46

Cool

As they are saying 12 and over transmission is the same as adults we may need this

If not every teenager then the more vulnerable ones at least

Aprilrainbow · 22/01/2021 21:49

I thought that my previous post was quite reasonable, if you have had an influx of trolls they are nothing to do with me, & no, I don't do FB.

carolinesbaby · 22/01/2021 21:49

I thought there was no plans to vaccinate under 18s?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 21:54

There are no current plans to vaccinate under 18s

It is just a trail in case that was to change

I think vaccinations for younger people with underlying health conditions is definitely needed

Nobody knows if teens would be

MarcelineMissouri · 22/01/2021 22:02

I think there were no plans to vaccinate under 18’s (or I think it was 16 actually from the MHRA) precisely because there has been no trial done so it couldn’t be licensed anyway.

I love listening to Whitty, Valance and JVT. They are just so eloquent and knowledgable and reassuring (even when it’s not the best news) because they just so clearly know what they’re talking about. I trust them.
