I think they have hung their hat on opening the schools first. I don't think they can renege on that now.

BlueBlancmange · 18/01/2021 22:58

@chri55ie

Coronavirus good news reporting that an Israeli study shows that the vaccine is showing sterilising properties........ie reduces transmission. Big news!
Excellent news! Smile

Checking in. Love the energy here. Really feels like we are part of something moving forwards! If only I could get the other areas of my life to catch up with such momentum!

AlexandraEiffel · 18/01/2021 23:07

I have had the shittest day ever so pleased to see another thread.

I thought, perhaps hoped, that the talk of March was other stuff opening up. Schools are first, so I'm thinking after half term for schools, at least primary or at least priority years like before, then other stuff in March. But I like to be optimistic (so I don't totally crack up).

I went to the supermarket this eve and there was an older man, prob 80s/90s doing his shopping, and I heard him tell the worker there he'd had his jab. We had a big masked smile at each other. (And I then sobbed when I got home with joy for him, as I said really shit day so I'm a bit over emotional 😬)

TeaInTheGarden · 18/01/2021 23:10

@FourTeaFallOut that’s what I think. So people saying after Easter are probably assuming full lockdown till then I guess. But as we know, there’s a lot of people who seek to think we will be in lockdown for another 5 years so I don’t know why I’m surprised!!

@AlexandraEiffel that’s they way I took it too- glad I’m not alone! Opening in March seems to fit with a late Feb opening of schools, even if it’s a phased return.

2fallsagain · 18/01/2021 23:11

I've also had a really bad day so checking in for good news!

TeaInTheGarden · 18/01/2021 23:12

@AlexandraEiffel sorry to hear you’ve had a bad day, and pleased the elderly man cheered you up. Must have been lovely ☺️

AlexandraEiffel · 18/01/2021 23:13

Yay glad I'm not alone on that thinking @TeaInTheGarden

And sorry to hear that @2fallsagain. Hope tomorrow is brighter

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 23:15

Tbh, I honestly don't have a strong sense of when/ how the schools will return. I'm hoping for after the half term and braced for Easter. I'm not tolerating any doom mongering beyond that unless something more significant changes.

Pomegranatespompom · 18/01/2021 23:15

I’m really optimistic for March, schools first, then maybe coffee, cake, drink in village pub garden and John Lewis opening again 😊

Oldwreck · 18/01/2021 23:16

Just saying hello to all you lovely positive people. I’m not a naturally positive person (quite the opposite) but I think you are all bringing about a change in me!!

Was this covered in previous threads? R rate is estimated to be as low as 0.6 in some places.

Shehz21 · 18/01/2021 23:35

Have had one of the shittiest days since this pandemic started today..

Checking in for some good news..

Oldwreck · 18/01/2021 23:47

@2fallsagain keep your chin up if you can. I don’t know what you’re going through in particular but there are always good days and bad days. Hopefully tomorrow will feel more positive for you.

Shehz21 · 18/01/2021 23:55

@Oldwreck and @2fallsagain

I know it doesn't feel like it right now but we have the strength to face this for another couple of months. I am confident things will begin changing for the better by March. Both my DD and hubby's birthdays are on the 15th of March and I'm planning lots of little surprises throughout the day for them and God knows that this is keeping me going atm. I feel by that time I might even be able to have a little day out with them two.

I had a horrible year and was at tipping point one too many times but I always force myself to think that this situation is temporary while if I was gone that would be permanent and that gives me that little bit of courage to plough through another day. And this thread is helping my mental health a lot now so thank you everyone who contributes to it.

tobee · 19/01/2021 00:02

Is it me or is the rest of mn looking slightly more sane again now?

Don't look if you haven't already. I could be mistaken.

Furries · 19/01/2021 00:42

Yay - I love seeing the green totally smashing the red, it’s like the 2021 version of pac-man (I’m old!).

It’s been a long slog, and still a bit of a slog to go, but every day seeing numbers change is a plus for me. Will be really interesting to see what happens to numbers once more of the second doses start getting rolled out.

To everyone facilitating the vaccine rollout, thank you!

PoppiesinOctober · 19/01/2021 06:27

Checking into the most normal, and positive place on MN lately Grin

TheChineseChicken · 19/01/2021 06:57

Morning all, my good news is that I slept for 9 hours! Probably more exciting for me than you.

Will take a look at the reports forms Israel

Wherediditgo · 19/01/2021 07:25

Good morning!
So.... seeing as we are in a boat... can we sing a sea shanty?
