@tobee

I think this post talking about good news was set up in response to all the huge amount of bad news threads that have proliferated Mumsnet throughout the last year. Large numbers of posters are only capable of posting bad news. Most people who has lived life know that there is good news and bad news. And different days give good and bad news. And lots of days where people just don't know yet. We post on here as a counterbalance to the miserable posters with their strident tones who don't seem to care about other posters mental health. And seem to happily post small amounts of data as if it's fact if it suits their pessimistic view of the world. Completely ignoring the fact that it's a much more mixed picture than it is on reality.

Unfortunately, lots posters seem to get swept up with these doomy posters, and give their posts more credence than they should. A sort of superstitious reaction, if they believe the worst will happen they are able to protect themselves in some way.

There are days which have negative press briefings. But that is just one day. It doesn't actually tell you how this will play out.

Exactly!! Well said.

Also I object strongly to things that will unnecessarily cast doubt on vaccines and might disrupt uptake.

Blerg · 22/01/2021 20:49

@Blerg

Dr Campbell on YouTube discussed the Zoe data today - showing that the peak was in 1st December. Also some stuff about the media coverage and that the BBC in particular are showing the sorts of footage that they didn’t in the first wave.

It feels like nudge content, which I totally get. It might well be needed to stop people partying etc. But the fall out is the anguish and collective anxiety fest of much of the Covid board.

I’d recommend watching him for a realistic and sometimes sobering look at stats. Cuts through the noise. He’s not sugar coating and I really believe we aren’t in this thread. It’s a question of focus and direction.

I’m doing too many things at once. That should say the peak was 1st January.

I reckon by late next week we will hit 500k a day 3.5 millionaire week Smile

PopcornAndWine · 22/01/2021 20:49

Just found these threads! Now following Smile

herecomesthsun · 22/01/2021 20:50

I agree that we absolutely should follow the science and also that a lot of the news about vaccines has been just fantastic.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 20:52

@MarshaBradyo

Why does this thread have to encompass everything?

It is the only good news thread on here.,

It’s easy to avoid for those who don’t want to read it

There is the vaccination good news thread too. That is lovely. Very informative as well.

(Interesting that the people that try to put the damper on that are the same ones that try hereHmm)

herecomesthsun · 22/01/2021 20:56

I'm delighted about vaccines, should you mean me, I think it will take my risk down as someone who has been shielding to what is approaching normal for my age.

I will still be a bit careful but it is like the key turning in the lock of a prison.

I still don't think you should go round calling people trolls for no good reason.

The cheermongers are out and about
With news that will make us all shout
It's good and it's fab
And none of it's bad
So if you don't like it, GET OUT!

I have my poetry head on today.

InterfectoremVulpes · 22/01/2021 20:57

Disrupting a thread is a form of trolling so it isn't for no reason.

From wikipedia:

InInternet slang, atrollis a person who startsflame warsor intentionally upsets people on theInternet. Typically they do this by posting inflammatory and digressive,[1]extraneous, oroff-topicmessages in anonline community(such as anewsgroup, forum, chat room, orblog), with theintent of provokingreaders into displayingemotionalresponses[2]and normalizing tangential discussion

Definitely

And to add saying this I reckon nobody here would object to people stating real worries. Also threads threads that are debating proven negative research or facts.

*Thought I should say that before a smeg head says we want to hide the truth or something

Thewiseoneincognito · 22/01/2021 21:09

For a second I thought this was a beach with all the heads in sand 👀

spade anyone? 😆

tootyfruitypickle · 22/01/2021 21:10

I agree with PP who suggested just ignoring the derailers. Radio silence works well. It’s what I’ve learnt from dealing with my ex Smile. That way negative people don’t affect your mood !

tobee · 22/01/2021 21:10

Talking of Dr John Campbell, I was watching his video last night on my phone. Is it just me that finds themselves putting their hand out, trying to straighten out his paper? Trying to move it down to look at the next bit of information on it? 🤣🤣

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 21:12

Yes

You are obviously weird Grin

TheChineseChicken · 22/01/2021 21:12

Smeg head Grin

Confusedismyname · 22/01/2021 21:13

Some good news. Our town has a new vaccine centre opening Monday with a capacity for 20,000 a week. Dh is CEV and we’re just waiting for that letter.

Not this but I find myself swiping upwards on book pages
DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/01/2021 21:14

I have something, it’s not positive necessarily, but it’s something lovely I didn’t know.

So, Chris Whitty is a real Dr. We know that. I didn’t know he is actually working as a Dr in a london hospital doing shifts and seeing covid patients every week. He works in the infectious diseases department. Still putting in the shifts, despite his responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer.

I don’t know if this is common knowledge. I certainly didn’t know.

TheChineseChicken · 22/01/2021 21:14

What a legend

True

Silly sausages wasting their time reading a thread they don’t want to see

herecomesthsun · 22/01/2021 21:15

It just makes me respect him all the more. And I think it gives real weight to his position. I admire him more and more as the pandemic goes on.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/01/2021 21:17

Me too. He really knows what’s going on in hospitals because he’s there doing his job.

I know someone who works with him, so that’s how I learnt this.
