*that should say- I was also pondering to myself

@Aprilrainbow

Reading some of the recent posts I would like to comment that while it is good to try to stay positive, the ability to take in bad news is an important survival skill. Not looking for a war with anyone.
Absolutely agree with you

I am a realist. Which means I only worry and go into panic. If presented with a reason too.

This week I haven't seen anything negative. Only news we are aware of all ready. Turned into tabloid scare mongering. Imperial being wrong yet again.

Today's variant news is still a could not a certain. There are to many missing parts to panic. Even then we are looking at a sad change but not massive.

The vaccine is proven to work on the Kent variant and vaccination program is going well.

I think I take bad news logically. That is better.

With all due respect April I have survived an awful bloody lot this last year. More than you'll ever know. I don't need to hear some fear mongering idiots opinion (not fact) in order to learn how to survive.

Thank you and goodbye 👋

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 20:15

@PottyRuddy

I swear some people actively want to stay in this situation forever, it's as if any positive news or outlook is a direct threat to them!

I love this thread.

I have no more to say 🤣 🐘

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 20:16

This is a collation of good news AprilRainbow. If you think we have amassed this amount of information on the virus (that you have no doubt read on this thread before you decided to tell everyone what to do) to find the good news you must realise that we are 'taking in'exactly the same news that you are, as a minimum.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/01/2021 20:23

I would say most of us read more research than the average person. That is part of why we say humbug to the fake news or dodgy research.

The elephant who was in the room

You’ve summed it up.

Oh, you're still here??
FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 20:32

The "I'm afraid" droppers are coming thick and fast now. Instead of engaging with it, does anyone else think a radio silence response might allow us to just carry on with good news chat without all the disruption that it causes? I'm presuming that is ok within MN guidelines?

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 20:35

I know I'm one to talk, I have no patience, but I just think it might be easier?

InterfectoremVulpes · 22/01/2021 20:35

I'm still shocked that MNHQ are ok with posters deliberately trying to take threads off topic. As I said earlier its a form of trolling 🤷‍♀️

As a massive worrier, this is the thread I need in my life. Thank you 🙏🏻

herecomesthsun · 22/01/2021 20:36

I don't think you should falsely accuse people of trolling for mildly expressing a different opinion. I think that is wrong, actually.

NeedingCoffee · 22/01/2021 20:37

I’m sure it’s been mentioned earlier this afternoon, but just to say again

412,615 doses of vaccine in the last 24 hours
409,855 of them first doses

Absolutely incredible numbers!

herecomesthsun · 22/01/2021 20:39

Holding onto the vaccine numbers very firmly, they remain a real source of hope.

Its not expressing an opinion, its coming on to a thread about a specific subject and trying to derail it.

Anyway. I've got a takeaway on its way, which is good news.

It's a collation of good news. It's clear in the title and the very first post. Dropping in from nowhere to control the content and tone of the thread is rude and disruptive to the aim of the thread. There's plenty of space elsewhere if posters would like to have a different type of thread.

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2021 20:42

Yes, it's an incredible logistical success. It's only a week or so ago when the Omni calculator wouldn't even enter the kind of figures we saw today 😂

MarshaBradyo · 22/01/2021 20:43

Why does this thread have to encompass everything?

It is the only good news thread on here.,

It’s easy to avoid for those who don’t want to read it

tobee · 22/01/2021 20:43

I think this post talking about good news was set up in response to all the huge amount of bad news threads that have proliferated Mumsnet throughout the last year. Large numbers of posters are only capable of posting bad news. Most people who has lived life know that there is good news and bad news. And different days give good and bad news. And lots of days where people just don't know yet. We post on here as a counterbalance to the miserable posters with their strident tones who don't seem to care about other posters mental health. And seem to happily post small amounts of data as if it's fact if it suits their pessimistic view of the world. Completely ignoring the fact that it's a much more mixed picture than it is on reality.

Unfortunately, lots posters seem to get swept up with these doomy posters, and give their posts more credence than they should. A sort of superstitious reaction, if they believe the worst will happen they are able to protect themselves in some way.

There are days which have negative press briefings. But that is just one day. It doesn't actually tell you how this will play out.

shhsecretsquirrel · 22/01/2021 20:44

My people, hello 👋 loving the thread

Dr Campbell on YouTube discussed the Zoe data today - showing that the peak was in 1st December. Also some stuff about the media coverage and that the BBC in particular are showing the sorts of footage that they didn’t in the first wave.

It feels like nudge content, which I totally get. It might well be needed to stop people partying etc. But the fall out is the anguish and collective anxiety fest of much of the Covid board.

I’d recommend watching him for a realistic and sometimes sobering look at stats. Cuts through the noise. He’s not sugar coating and I really believe we aren’t in this thread. It’s a question of focus and direction.

tobee · 22/01/2021 20:45

@FourTeaFallOut and @MarshaBradyo much less long winded than me!
