@TJ17 I called and what a frustrating call that was. The lady I spoke to (a different one to who had replied to the email) repeatedly used CV. I’d eventually had enough of saying “but we’re CEV” and pointed out to her that there’s a difference between CV and CEV. Her response? “I’m only missing out a word” ...and causing a lot of confusion in doing so.

Anyway, she said that if a text has been received then you’re in group 4, but they’ve split group 4 and are doing the 70-75 years age group first and then once they’re done and they have more clinic time allocated at the local hub they’ll move onto the CEV group, so I suppose you could say that they’ve created a group 4a and group 4b.
Sorry @MadisonAvenue I got a bit distracted 😅😂

Oh how frustrating that is!! 🤦🏼‍♀️ there is quite a big difference in CV and CEV considering they are 2 priority groups apart! Pretty worrying that they don't seem to understand that!
Not sure I like the idea of this 4a/4b thing. Surely if they (the government) wanted to separate age and CEV then they would have already put them in different groups 🤷🏼‍♀️
Sounds a bit like a jobsworth on reception who doesn't want to admit they were wrong!

Remember it’s not Gatwick, you don’t need to announce your departure

This is making me really laugh! Thank you

Florelei · 22/01/2021 19:08

Just posting to remind myself to stick to this thread and don’t read newspapers. I’ve managed to work myself up with some of the doom and gloom.

Some great news about the r rate!

OrangeBananaFish · 22/01/2021 19:23

Cases are going down whilst we're in a tight lockdown. But as soon as that ends or is reduced they will shoot up again. All scientists agree with this now. It's not doom mongering. It's common sense, fact, science. I love a bit of positivity and that's why I read this thread from time to time. But it's actually depressing reading cloud cuckoo land nonsense and denial. This thread is akin to all the Trump nonsense now.

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

"All scientists agree"!!! Honestly where do these muppets come from???

There is a massive vaccination programme happening at the moment. The plan is to try and vaccinate as many of the adult population in as short a time as possible.

Getting the vaccines will give people immunity to Covid. That's pretty huge!!!! Cases will drop, and hopefully tail off. Yes, it will take a while, but it's very unlikely that cases will "shoot up " again quickly if we have effective vaccines.

Just to add!!!! I'm a dentist and have just had my vaccinator application approved, and I'm about to book my first shift. I always thought ( as I'm a back up) that if they ask me to participate, that the NHS mean business. They are planning to massively ramp the programme up now!

Having enjoyed the Pachyderm Poem, I've now caught up with today's posts.
Lovely roses and snowdrop sightings! Am in awe of TJ17 and others dealing with situations I can't imagine. So glad everything is going well.
Thank you to everyone explaining a lot of the science and statistics.

Reading some of the recent posts I would like to comment that while it is good to try to stay positive, the ability to take in bad news is an important survival skill. Not looking for a war with anyone.

What is going on tonight? Have we been linked on FB or something

You do realise some of post on other threads too

Inastatus · 22/01/2021 20:04

Oh did I miss a doom muppet invader? Great poem fuzzy 😅

Regarding the ‘more lethal’ strain, I’ve just read an article on the ITV website by Robert Peston who spoke to Prof Neil Ferguson of Nervtag.

Prof Ferguson states that “it is a realistic possibility that the new UK variant increases the risk of death but there is considerable remaining uncertainty. He also states ‘The big caveat is that we only know which strain people were infected with for about 8% of deaths”.

PottyRuddy · 22/01/2021 20:05

I swear some people actively want to stay in this situation forever, it's as if any positive news or outlook is a direct threat to them!

Yes, we can do that. On threads about bad news.

Its really not that difficult to understand

Now this elephant can stay 😊
TeaInTheGarden · 22/01/2021 20:12

@Inastatus that’s interesting.
I was also on seeing to myself that given the lag in deaths, there’s can’t yet be that huge a number of people who have contracted the new variant and died.
They obviously have enough data to warrant mentioning it, but I’m really hoping it could be statistical noise.... 🤞🏻
(I’m willing to bet they wouldn’t have been so quick to mention it if they thought it less lethal.... I’m really not into conspiracy theories but I wouldn’t be surprised in them wanting to keep the dear going....)

MorrisZapp · 22/01/2021 20:13

Israel now reporting 60% decrease in cases amongst over 60 year olds, 13 to 23 days after their first dose of vaccine.
