It would very reasonable to have individual assessments to protect CEV families etc.

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2021 15:11

This is the one place I don’t feel that push over schools closed for ages. Other parts of mn are awful.

I’ll just not say much on it but I’m glad the Sept crew are absent!

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 15:14

@herecomesthsun I can’t see any unsympathetic comments ??

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 19/01/2021 15:15

It's good news as long as the Government and people are careful not to relax too soon, as all these people will get vaccinated this year.

My elderly Dad got his first vaccine today Smile

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 15:19

I put this on the end of the last thread - it’s well worth a listen.

@DayBath - that sounds awful and I’m sorry. However, talking about schools re-opening for most people is a positive thing. The Govt have made it clear that schools are a priority so re-opening them means it’s the first step back to getting some normality back - they can’t start opening up other areas of the economy before schools.

Obviously it has to be done in a safe way but it has to happen as soon as possible. I’ve got a year 11 DD who needs to get back in the classroom.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/01/2021 15:34

@DayBath

Came in here expecting to see good news, you're all talking as if schools reopening is a good thing. This really isn't the case for everyone, try and think of teachers, CEV parents and those of us with children who will have to go back and face the reality that some of their good friends have lost mothers and fathers to covid over Christmas. My daughter doesn't know what's happened to her friends yet...it's better for her mental health at this point not to know. Returning to schools fills some of us with a sense of utter dread, so don't assume putting it here will help people. I'm now more miserable than I was before I opened this thread!!
I am a cev parent with three school children. I understand the anxiety of sending them to school and crossing your fingers that things will be ok. But I still think the opening of schools is a good thing for society and is fine on a good news thread. (And good news for those of us who are cev and, on balance, for whom schools opening is best for their circumstances and individual children).
MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2021 15:42

I think we’ll be in a good position with CEV vaccine even if schools open quite early in scheme of things. But like pp I am glad they are a priority.

TJ17 · 19/01/2021 16:00

I think people are talking of school reopening in a positive light as in it will be safe enough to open them being the good news part.

Not just the opening of schools being good news but the hope that by X date it will be safe enough to open them.

That's how I interpret it.

NoseringGirl · 19/01/2021 16:17

We're blazing through these threads, I may need to start checking in more than once a day!
My area has now vaccinated all elderly care homes which is brilliant!

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 16:21

Yeah I think @TJ17 has it.

I also think we keep narrowing the parameters of what's allowed on the thread. It's a thread for good news, not a thread that can and just be tailored to everybody's specific situation, needs, and anxiety levels.

That's very much not directed at you Day it's something I've noticed in the last week or two.

It's a lovely thread but we're making it hard for it to continue on if we're so self-policing and apologetic.

TJ17 · 19/01/2021 16:23

I agree. Think we need to keep seeing this as good news as a whole for the country. Won't always be good news on a personal level but as long as the country is improving as a whole it will eventually filter down to us all as individuals.

And that's the whole point.

louisejxxx · 19/01/2021 16:26

I agree @IncludeWomenInTheSequel - it’s becoming harder and harder to stick to each and every person’s expectations, particularly when buried within 5 (now 6) threads of content.

BigWoollyJumpers · 19/01/2021 16:27

Anyone posted this yet:

More than 200,000 laptops and tablets have been delivered or dispatched by the government to help with remote learning since the start of this term, PA Media reports. New figures from the Department for Education (DfE) suggest that 239,103 devices have been sent to councils, academy trusts, schools and colleges across England since January 4 - when the latest lockdown was announced. A total of 801,524 laptops and tablets have been delivered or dispatched to support pupils to access remote education since the start of the scheme

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 16:31

My good news: Scotland is now vaccinating 20k people seven days a week. Wahoo!

1990s · 19/01/2021 16:37

In terms of positivity, I try to think about it like this:

“My DF got jab today” etc
I can’t control the queue, so this is good news as the sooner the people in front of the queue are done, the sooner my DF will get his.

“schools will reopen soon”
I don’t care about schools as I have no children, but my Dsis works in a pub that will go under if they don’t reopen soon, so positive angle in this is: reopening schools is what they do when things are getting better, if things are getting better then the pub is closer to reopening.

I don’t mean to sound trite and I hope that makes sense, but that’s how I’m approaching the news here. Not my natural disposition either, but it works!

thatgingergirl · 19/01/2021 16:43

littleowl1 thanks for those graphs, and all the work you are putting in. Good to know there is a fall in hospitalisations in a couple of areas!

tobee · 19/01/2021 16:47

"I came on to this thread to see good news. And you're all doing it wrong"

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 19/01/2021 16:50

@tobee do I have to post tiny animal pictures again?! Grin

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2021 16:51

Oh blimey. I may need to take another break.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/01/2021 16:56

I feel the need to make a new thread. Positives or else.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2021 17:00

Fluffy kitten for you all.
It's the best I can do.

We don't need any excuses for that @IncludeWomenInTheSequel ! Grin

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/01/2021 17:03

Has anyone yet mentioned how low today’s cases are? 33355 compared with 45533 a week ago.

Inastatus · 19/01/2021 17:04

@Includewomeninthesequel - agreed. We definitely need to look at the bigger positive picture rather than personalising too much I feel.

Anyway, here is a sheep pig - very cute!
