Rioting? As if. I mean are usually levels of political dissent in the UK tend to peak with whinging and tutting, I don't see there being much change on that any time soon.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 12:31

Our usual - I swear that was my auto correct, it's gone mental these last few days.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 12:33

Gyms the new way to rebelConfused

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 12:37

If a riot consisted of lining up outside primark for two hours I might believe it would be a popular choice

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 12:38

A polite queuing rebellion, you say? That might have legs.Grin

BBC website

65 new vaccination centres opening today

One vaccination centre is in a mosque! They are expecting 200 people today.
(This gives me great joy as I am worried about the black and Asian take up)

63% of residents in care homes now done

We are vaccinating at 200 people a minute

Iamclearlyamug · 21/01/2021 14:56

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum thanks sooo much for this - I’ve been feeling so negative and anxious all day but this perked me up 😃😃 yay for science and yay for vaccines

AlexandraEiffel · 21/01/2021 15:11

Random bit of good news, but I know there's a few Van Tam fans here (he's my fave scientist, I never thought I'd have one!) Mrs Van Tam, Johnny's mum has had her jab Grin

I’m getting very upset with certain newspapers posting scaremongering articles. Today one paper has posted that the vaccine is already doomed because R won’t fall below 1 even if every adult is vaccinated, herd immunity is impossible, and the SA strain is immune to the vaccine. Well I don’t think they’d bother vaccinating people if that was the case! It’s just frightening vulnerable people who read that and believe it, and it could affect people’s mental health and lead to suicide. I think the press needs to be restricted from this sort of behaviour, it’s shocking.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 15:17

Vaccine figures look like they are going to be high today if Hugo Gye's tweets are any indication.

thatgingergirl · 21/01/2021 15:49

200 a minute! Was 140 a minute last week, I think!

mrshonda · 21/01/2021 15:50

Oxford scientists have said they can reconfigure the vaccine, if needed, at 48 hours notice

The media have been appalling the last few days. I think it's been the worst I've seen in terms of scaremongering and wild speculation and that's saying something. It's clearly having an impact on people. 200 people a minute is brilliant

Frequentflier · 21/01/2021 15:56

The main forum is just terrifying today. People throwing around all kinds of conjecture about the efficacy of vaccines. Best to stay here.

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 16:03

I saw a really miserable graph on the bbc yesterday of vaccination figures. Rather than focus on the number that had been done the sole purpose of the graph was to show the shortfall against what was needed to meet the 15 Feb deadline Hmm

You are totally right it there are a few scare mongering articles today. When you read them though they are all information we all read know.

Like the vaccine probably won't eradicate the virus completely. Especially if it doesn't stop the transmission (so far it looks like it could do that but no proof). However it does reduce the chance of serious illness and hospitalisation.

Wish they would stop worrying people with these non stories and incompetent or iffy research.

I am being to think it is part of the national campaign to stop people getting to relax until numbers are down.

(Great now I sound like one of the conspiracy theorists Confused)

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 16:15

The good news is that daily reported cases continue to be down approximately 10k on the equivalent day last week

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 16:17

Forgive my ignorance but what is the purpose of the random (small) sampling studies now that we have such high testing capacity? What do they add other than confusion?

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 16:18
Grin

I do think they are all over the place at the moment. Although I'm not sure they are trying to achieve much apart from advertising revenue with hyperbolic rhetoric. They have vaccinated 2 million people this week, that seemed ridiculous not so long ago. Another 65 hubs opened today. Who knows what next week will look like? It's not a smooth trajectory.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 16:19

4,973,248 first jabs today!

Plus for the first time in a long while, hospital admissions are showing a decrease. It will be patchy I assume but my own local Trust have had a 14% decrease in Covid patients in the last week.
thatgingergirl · 21/01/2021 16:28

353,508 today - over 20k more 1st vaccinations than reported yesterday!
