@littleowl1 I'm in Ireland and just from having the news/ radio on today but not really listening fully, I got that Oxford is due for approval at the end of the month, but we won't get any supplies until mid Feb. It did make me laugh though the language used was completely 'when they meet and approve it...' if it's so obvious to everyone that it will be approved, why the long wait?

But first Moderna vaccines were given at the weekend.

GraciousPiglet · 20/01/2021 23:11

@Layladylay234 you can watch this thread then hide the board. That's what I do :) when the thread fills up I have to find the new one again but that's not all that often. And if it is often then I'm glad because that means we have had lots of good news!

TeaInTheGarden · 20/01/2021 23:32

The total number of vaccines given in the last 7 days was over 2 million! (Some of these were second doses but still vaccines given). It sounded like such an impossible target but they are making fab progress. Rate needs to carry on increasing of course, but what an amazing start.

I predicted 5 million by tomorrow a few days ago.... who knows..?!

shinynewapple2021 · 20/01/2021 23:52

Placemarking so I can find again tomorrow . Thank you for the data littleowl and love seeing people's animal pictures .

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 08:35

Morning all, I thought this was a reassuring article after the frenzy of the last couple of days regarding the Pfizer vaccine data coming out of Israel

Frequentflier · 21/01/2021 08:38

Really need this thread at the moment. Place marking.

An article about schools getting 2 weeks notice before they’ll return, which I’m hoping counts as good news - they can’t say when, but atleast teachers may have the opportunity to better prepare. And presumably when they’re given 2 weeks notice, we all will be too.

If after half term is correct, then we may here about it within the first few days in feb.

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 08:47

Two weeks is a long time in covid terms. How can they know two weeks in advance that cases etc will be at a level that permits opening? Unless they wait until they are low enough then add two weeks

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 08:54

Morning. I'm staying here now. Definitely, this time.

Yes, I read the BBC article, it's good that they've published it, although a shame they didn't provide some of that context themselves yesterday.

Thank you for this. Misunderstanding and misreporting seems rampant at the moment so I’m glad things are being countered and corrected.

Headlines about the REACT study this morning saying that rates are stable but not dropping, without referencing they are comparing data from before Christmas, and the first two weeks of January, so it’s essentially behind.

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 09:11

Yes, I saw that!

Welikebeingcosy · 21/01/2021 09:13

I can't find any info on how many adults are in the UK but we must be close to having vaccinated 10 percent of all adults with 10 percent of the entire population vaccinated only being a week away surely?

Msloverlover · 21/01/2021 11:05

Anyone who is feeling a bit icky after the hearing about the React survey analysis, have a look over on the data thread where the data has been unpacked a bit more.

ILookAtTheFloor · 21/01/2021 11:11

Thank you @Msloverlover, Imperial College are the High Priests of the Doom Church in my view! The data thread has been great this morning.

AVictoryProduct · 21/01/2021 11:27

Oooh TWO certainlys here from Gavin Williamson

“I would certainly hope that that would be certainly before Easter,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 11:30

He certainly goes but he can’t guarantee. Hardly worth opening his mouth to say it

TheChineseChicken · 21/01/2021 11:30
  • hopes
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 11:48

Imperial college only took 142 swaps and used that data by the looks of it.

How can that be enough to show anything. I would have thought at least 1000 to access the situation.

Anyway I am no expert but doesn't sound to worrying. They have a history of making extreme predictions. Need to stop relying on there daft computer program and do some old fashioned maths if you ask me.

So don't worry so many other sources predict we have turned a corner.

Plus littleowl says things are looking better. So that is good enough for meSmile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 11:49

Hardly worth opening his mouth Grin

Blerg · 21/01/2021 11:51

Very grateful for this thread today. I stayed up late doom scrolling. I think the reporting is obviously sensationalist but still I do it!

My positive is that I’ve seen lots of daffodils poking up and that Spring is on the way.

Is it like two negatives make a positive? Two certainlys make a doubtful Grin (I am totally joking in case anyone takes that literally in their moment of stress)

Inastatus · 21/01/2021 11:57

@TheChineseChicken - thanks for posting the BBC article. I was getting a bit anxious about the Israeli data.

thatgingergirl · 21/01/2021 12:22

Yes, that BBC article is reassuring. Glad to see that final quote from Professor Evans!

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 12:26

Pass the brain beach. I wandered onto a thread advocating riots and overthrowing the government by opening all the gyms. There's covid and then there's crazy.

Zogstart · 21/01/2021 12:29

Thank goodness for this thread. Someone on another thread thinks pubs will only be open during the summer months forevermore 😂
