That was @herecomesthsun
There wasn’t anything balanced about that thread in fact it was quite damaging.

sashagabadon · 19/01/2021 19:02

I agree with others. Everyone here does respect the gravity of the situation imo. This thread is for the positives only.
There is no requirement for “balance” at all. It’s not the BBC!

We all know the rest of the board is still there if we want to read it. I like the data thread too for example and read it most days to get my own “ balance” when I want it.

Inastatus · 19/01/2021 19:05

@littleowl1 - thank you for the updated stats, amazing! I’m so pleased to see my local area has now finally gone green too 😊

herecomesthsun · 19/01/2021 19:07

Hmm.

I just think we need to respect each other and the situation.

The anxious people and the ones who want reassurance by thinking of the positives (who might even be the same people).

It's not iacking in "sanity" to be worried. It's sensible to take the situation seriously and it's reasonable to want to look forward to the good things too.

Lets hope there are a lot of good things ahead. For all of us.

AlwaysWinterNeverChristmas · 19/01/2021 19:07

I know I'm not a regular poster on this thread, but I depend on it for positivity. Please can we ignore derailment? There is no need to justify the tone of the thread, which deals only in facts. Positive facts, but facts nevertheless

herecomesthsun · 19/01/2021 19:08

and great to see more falling cases @littleowl1

FourTeaFallOut · 19/01/2021 19:08

I just don't understand why there cannot be a good news thread without constant interruption from posters who would like to reframe what we say and how we say it?

What's it to you? Are we taking up too much space?

chri55ie · 19/01/2021 19:13

I love this good news thread...keeps me sane. I also follow Coronavirusgoodnews on Twitter and justgivemepositivenews.com. Both really good news sources.

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 19:14

Agree @FourTeaFallOut
I think there’s an attempt to ‘influence’ us to see reason 🤣

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2021 19:16

Are we taking up too much space?

Ha yes it does feel like an ever decreasing pond on mn, ripples moving in

Tg this thread is still going and better yet it’s been going for a while. We’ll be positive, we still know the reality, but this is the good news space

herecomesthsun · 19/01/2021 19:16

Happy to respond.

(this is certainly a longer discussion than I had intended)

It was just that there were some exchanges down thread about other discussions being lacking in "sanity" and full of "doom and gloom".

And I have been saying that we can acknowledge the gravity of the situation while still looking forward to things getting better and being hopeful that life will open up again.

Which I think is a reasonable point of view and not a negative one? It helps me anyway to be able to acknowledge both.

Our local football club has a blackboard outside saying "the darkest hour is just before dawn" and pointing out that days are getting longer now, I noticed it this morning. It really cheered me up!

I think that this is where we are, that we are in a place that has in some ways not been so good, been difficult in fact, but there is a lot of hope in our situation.

TJ17 · 19/01/2021 19:20

Deffo don't think there's anyone on this thread that has shown any evidence of not taking guidelines seriously or realising the gravity of the situation. It's just that this isn't the thread to discuss the gravity side.

In fact lots of here are CEV, CV or have close family that are...hence why we desperately need the good news. So we deffo don't flout the rules here!

FourTeaFallOut · 19/01/2021 19:21

Lots of ‘We’ but how we think is personal Here

I don’t think you need to convince us on how to frame it. We all have our own strategy and for many that is a nice, clear positive thread that is unlike the rest of mn.

We might use this thread as well as others but this one should be unsullied imo.

Lovestonap · 19/01/2021 19:35

I think I'll join this lovely thread. I'm a mental health practitioner but it's hard to support people through depression in a lockdown when I've been feeling so bleak myself. This discussion might be the tonic I need to keep going. Also lovely the baby animal pics, I am very much here for that kind of contentGrin

2020CanDoOne · 19/01/2021 19:38

I love a quokka @FuzzyPuffling My daughter wants one as a pet, (along with the rest of the animal kingdom).

Go on, have a pony.

Pomegranatespompom · 19/01/2021 19:43

I quite like a few garden/flower photos too
Plus all the positive gees of course.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2021 19:47

Hello Lovestonap. I can see how that must be a very difficult position to be in.

Read the good news, stats and science here and enjoy the random furry animals.

Getting through this together.

Exactly :) couldn't agree more!

The whole reason we all want a good news only thread is precisely because of the gravity of the situation.

This is our safe space, a place we have carved out to put all the good news and optimism that will get us through this pandemic.

Oldtimer2020 · 19/01/2021 20:02

On a very positive note, the government said it was going to move onto the next group and send out letters to the over 70s in the next week or two. I know of a few letters that fluttered onto the doormat today. It’s definitely happening, and it’s got to be a sign that things are moving in the right direction.

tobee · 19/01/2021 20:05

I'm rather partial to a slow loris myself

FourTeaFallOut · 19/01/2021 20:05

The over 70s and the extremely clinically vulnerable. I have no idea where my area is up to yet but that doesn't mean I'm not legging it to the door when the post comes. I don't do this for the bank statement.

TheChineseChicken · 19/01/2021 20:12

I look forward to hearing about posters on this thread getting vaccinated!

TJ17 · 19/01/2021 20:14

Yes me too @TheChineseChicken 😊🙏🏼
