I can’t see any mention of the tier system post mid February, other than from Malthouse this morning

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 14:34

Yay at David Attenborough and BRIAN BLESSED 😅

TheWorstShed · 12/01/2021 14:45

I hope they gave the person vaccinating Brian Blessed some ear defenders.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/01/2021 14:50

'After receiving his Covid vaccination, Brian Blessed OBE thanked the NHS for saving his and his wife's life.'

  • he’s not one to understate things, is he?!

Sorry I pressed post too soon Blush I'm frontline NHS and there's been a huge drive within my trust to vaccinate all patient facing staff. I went yesterday's there were tons of staff there, it was a military style operation and made me feel so proud and humbled to work for the NHS. Lots of us from different professions all lining up together- doctors, nurses, porters, cleaning staff, radiographers, OTs physios HCAs and mental health staff. I felt really emotional yesterday to be part of it. I'm feeling super hopeful right now, looking forward to brighter days to come Smile
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/01/2021 15:06

Congratulations ScrumpyBetty!

Lovely to see all the over 80s celebrities being done just as we talked about a month or so ago. Next up will be the over 70s - who will that include? The ageing rockers will be in that cohort I think?

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 15:08

I missed this. Thanks for new thread

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-wales-55548670

This came out five days ago which, I know on this board, is ancient news. I think I was a bit blasé when I first read it, vaccine by patch, blah, blah, several years, blah, blah, people scared of vaccines.

It wasn't till Kate Bingham spelled out on the conference sky broadcast yesterday in small words the possibility of just posting out a self- administered vaccine and the speed with which we could inoculate the country in years that the enormity and importance of this new technology hit me.

It's a huge leap and somehow it got lost in the column inches of doom.

FourTeaFallOut · 12/01/2021 15:10

inoculate the country in years...missing words...to come.

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 15:11

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

For anyone new to the thread, here is the global vaccine progress tracker. An even happier thing to look at now the UK is providing up to date data on ours.
Brilliant

I don’t mind being a darker colour on this one, good to see

MarshaBradyo · 12/01/2021 15:12

@littleowl1

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing ok.

I was collating today's data for the homepage of www.covidmessenger.com and I wanted to highlight something I am feeling cautiously optimistic about.

I have been monitoring cases in Kent daily (Kent was the county that first had high prevalence of the new variant) and there are signs that things are beginning to turn in recent days (ie cases starting to fall).

I published a detailed post about this here:
www.covidmessenger.com/latest-analysis/

Kent is important for the rest of the country as it highlights how the new variant responds to various social restrictions - its a bit long to detail it all here but I explain it in the post.

It's an immense relief that cases appear to be starting to fall.

It is early days - it could be a data blip - but my instinct tells me things have peaked in Kent. This will provide an immensely valuable dataset for all our clever scientists and doctors working hard to determine the most suitable measures to contain the spread in other parts of the country.

So while it has been grim living in Kent for the last few weeks, with relentlessly depressing data, I do think our experience will be hugely valuable.

Thanks LittleOwl good to read re Kent

Brian Blessed Grin

Years ago someone on here posted about having a sex dream featuring Brian Blessed, where she described him as 'boomy and grateful'

I've never forgotten that!

Double happy news for me because I some how thought he was dead.

Very happy to hear he isn't.

He was marvellous in Flash Gordon Star

LightandAiry · 12/01/2021 16:06

Thank you for this thread - waiting for parents to receive their vaccination and hope it is very soon. It seems to be a post code lottery; my friend's Mum age 75 got hers but my parents over 80 waiting patiently.

The positivity is brilliant - can't do the doom and gloom!

sashagabadon · 12/01/2021 16:11

Great news re. Attenborough and Brian Blessed
And I’m just home from work and the council have planted a new magnolia tree on the street just outside my house sometime today and that has made me very happy indeed. Might be years before it flowers but I can wait Smile

MarcelineMissouri · 12/01/2021 16:25

An update on timings for the J&J vaccine - hopefully not too much longer!

MadisonAvenue · 12/01/2021 17:06

I love the thought of a new Magnolia being planted, it’ll be beautiful!

I’ve ordered a couple of bunches of daffodils to come with my Tesco delivery, fingers crossed!

TheChineseChicken · 12/01/2021 17:12

Anyone watching the briefing? The list of misdemeanours is astonishing! What’s wrong with people?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 12/01/2021 17:17

The thought of a new tree being planted in the midst of all this drama...is very moving.
