Just realised that if I post a message here, updates will appear in my notifications! And that is exactly what I need. New Year's resolution is to read this thread and this thread only.

Good news from me is that the Novovax vaccine trial is due to report results in the next few weeks. I'm a volunteer on the trial and my trial doctor said results so far are very promising. It's likely to be cheaper than the others and can be stored in a normal fridge.

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 10:21

I'm.very interested in the Novavax results. I feel like there's a buzz around this one. Come on...!

"Seventeen percent of the new serious cases today, or 180 cases, are after the first dose,” she told reporters.

This will be the next bogeyman. Israel have only been vaccinating for three weeks. If they have a serious infection now, when did they contract the virus in relation to when they had the jab? Where's the actual important bit of the information?

AVictoryProduct · 13/01/2021 10:52

Good news from the BBC website...

There is also some evidence the new variant may not be quite as fast-spreading as first feared – a Public Health England study suggested rather than being 70% more transmissible it may actually be somewhere between 30% to 50%.

chri55ie · 13/01/2021 10:56

Oo that is good news!

Shehz21 · 13/01/2021 11:02

Hi @JemimaPyjamas!

Sorry for the delay in response, have had a very moody toddler to handle.

I have an autoimmune disease (aplastic anemia).

That is good news. It’s also frustrating that we’ve yet again been forced into a lockdown and had schools closed off the back of dodgy data. It’s like November all over again but worse because our children’s education is suffering.

sashagabadon · 13/01/2021 12:11

More good news for me! I have been accepted as a Covid marshal via the Good Sam app/ royal volunteer workforce Smile
You have to commit to 2 shifts per month and I could probably do more than this helping at the weekend. Actually Looking forward to it!

Layladylay234 · 13/01/2021 12:11

@MarcelineMissouri

My in laws are 75 and 76 and have now had their first dose! (West Midlands)
Oooh my mum and dad are 74 and 75 and my dad is shielding and live in Coventry. Is that anywhere near your in-laws? I'd love for them to have it asap
Frazzled2207 · 13/01/2021 12:14

fab. Mil is 76 and parents are 74, all anxiously waiting.

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 12:15

@blametheparents yes positivity percentage is so important- do you know where we can see a graph of this? I’ve been looking but can’t find one.

Inastatus · 13/01/2021 12:15

@CornishYarg - I think ‘doom muppet’ should be our safe word so we can recognise kindred spirits if we find ourselves wandering over on the dark side 😅

Inastatus · 13/01/2021 12:16

@sashagabadon - brilliant! Well done you 😊

TeaInTheGarden · 13/01/2021 12:17

@FourTeaFallOut exactly what I want to know- how long ago did these people have their vaccine and when did they get infected. This will always happen, obviously over time it should happen less.
That’s an absolutely useless stat on it’s own and I really hope the media don’t get hold of it and start scaring people even more 😡

FloraFocus · 13/01/2021 12:20

That is somewhat reassuring SaveWaterDrinkGin. Each new slightly more transmissible variant becomes dominant over time. As the one from Spain did.

Every time I hear about folk getting the vaccine I am cheered up.

I'm also just posting to get notifications ☺️.

alreadytaken · 13/01/2021 12:23

The Israelis are warning people not to let their guard slip, Pfizer have been open about people becoming infected in the first 10 days post vaccination.

Whether this is good or bad news depends on your point of view - but it amused me. Watching zombie movies is apparently good preparation for coping in a pandemic. news.psu.edu/story/643151/2021/01/11/research/zombie-movies-prepared-you-pandemic

Excellent news! That's such a good thing to be doing. I hope you enjoy it.

Did you get a task on the Good Sam app? I have applied to be a vaccine steward and have downloaded the app and turned on 'Report on duty'. But there are no tasks yet and I've had the app for over a week. Did you just wait and then something popped up on the app?

FuzzyPuffling · 13/01/2021 12:49

Great news Sasha.
We definitely need more people like you on the case. Can you imagine Doom Muppets marshals "Oooh you don't want to get that, you know. Won't do you any good. My uncle's grandpa's milkman's dog got the vaccine and he's now infertile. No, dead. No, hang on, he's gone green and been teleported to Mars..."

OP posts:
Wherediditgo · 13/01/2021 13:07

What the doom muppets don’t seem to realise is that absolutely nobody knows 100% what the future will bring.
We take in our information from our preferred sources and we evaluate it and we are either optimistic or we aren’t.
I’ve taken my info from this thread and from vaccine stats etc and I feel optimistic about things looking better by mid Feb.
My opinion is JUST AS VALID as a doom muppet’s who is claiming we will never get out of lockdown and zoom weddings are the future.

mrshonda · 13/01/2021 13:11

The Government have just announced that 24/7 vaccination centres are coming soon!

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 13:15

Wow, I had that pegged as unlikely. I'll have to up my optimism game Grin

MarshaBradyo · 13/01/2021 13:16

I’m listening to PMQ. Quite funny sometimes. The new speaker is good. Starmer is not in my good books at all but Johnson can get jeery so it’s good he’s reigned in.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/01/2021 13:23

I am cynical about the 24/7 vaccination centres and I think it’s just a political decision- the easiest way to shut everyone up who keeps asking for them is to open a couple then if they have low take up they can just quietly cut the hours back again.
Happy to be wrong though!

FourTeaFallOut · 13/01/2021 13:25

I know they have some 24/7 places in New York doing vaccinations - I wonder how they are going?

MarshaBradyo · 13/01/2021 13:25

24\7 inefficiency concerns me although maybe it would be ok. Ie people not turning up and wastage. Perhaps not an issue.
