1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

I'm early 30s and CEV, and I was vaccinated yesterday

namesnamesnamesnames · 24/01/2021 21:19

Yes they are amazing. Volunteers running the show with organised car parking and stewarding, doctor surgery workers working all weekend to call as many people in as they can each day. I live in a village area rather than town or city, but there is a high population of older people here so there are many people to get through. I couldn't believe it myself when I saw that many friends 60-70yo parents had been vaccinated today.

Blessex · 24/01/2021 21:29

@namesnamesnamesnames I posted the link to the document up thread about why it was decided to follow a 12 week gap. Sorry I will have to dig it out. But yes! Pfizer is 89% effective after one dose according to the trials (taking into account day 15-21 after vaccination) . It is 91% effective after two doses. That’s why we are following this approach. I mean there are very clever people thinking about this who develop strategy.

Blessex · 24/01/2021 21:30

@StylishMummy brilliant. So good to hear new groups getting vaccinated. Stay safe for the next 3 weeks

psychomath · 24/01/2021 21:54

Psst @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat I think it's safe to come back now Wink

psychomath · 24/01/2021 22:07

You'd have thought that "Vaccinations up 40% week-on-week" would be a good enough headline. The tabloids shout about increases in cases or fatalities as loud as they can but are strangely quiet when there's some good news to report.

I think I have seen a couple of positive headlines about vaccine progress in the DM and other tabloids. I don't really read physical newspapers though, mostly just glance at the headlines, so I might be misremembering.

Generally I feel as though people do seem to know that the rollout is going well, if not the exact numbers, but it's like they don't make any connection between that and the prospect of things improving. I find it a bit odd, but maybe it's scepticism about how well the vaccine wil work, or they're so ground down by the whole situation that right now they can't see any hope of things ever getting better.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/01/2021 22:08

Grin Yay! And soon we’ll need another thread because this one is bursting full of positivity Star

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/01/2021 22:11

@namesnamesnamesnames wow that’s amazing. My dh is 57, I didn’t think he’d get his for ages, be nice if it’s earlier than expected.

Will the vaccination rate have to slow down at some point due to supply, thinking mainly of Pzifer. I know the U.K. got the orders in early but as they start supplying the EU and rest of the world will we have a gap in supply?

I assume by then our Oxford vaccines will be waiting in the wings.... fingers crossed 🤞🏾
psychomath · 24/01/2021 22:30

To be honest, even if supply does become an issue (which hopefully it won't) then I'd still prefer we slow down or level off because we're going really fast and have hit maximum capacity than because we have loads of vaccine but can't deliver it effectively. It's much easier to dial up manufacturing capabilities than it would be to untangle a lot of complicated logistical and bureaucratic holdups.

Pfizer manufacturing delay is an issue but we have millions of doses in the country already. So hopefully won't overly affect us.

Obviously we have our own site that makes the oxford in this country and they are going great guns. Plus we have ordered several other vaccines that should finish trials soon, get approved and be with us in spring and summer.

Lovely title to see

I know, I can’t quite get over the difference in the number in the first thread title versus the second!

Just amazing isn't it. I don't think a person in this country would have predicted we would ramp up vaccination that fast.

DenisetheMenace · 24/01/2021 22:55

Been trying to avoid the news for the past few days but just seen the latest, 6.5 million?! I’m weeping, in a good way.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 07:15

Let's just tidy this one away :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 07:16

Hopefully lots more lovely vaccines this week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 07:17

It's -3c here. Much colder elsewhere. Early doors people will need to wrap up warm.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 07:17

Nearly there

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2021 07:17

And done.
