Will he be on time? What will he say?

@TheSunIsStillShining

"Johnson says the problem is not that schools are unsafe, adding that children are still unlikely to be affected by new variant, but they can “act as vectors for transmission”"

I still think he doesn't get the whole virus thing.....

Either that or he thinks people are talking about the actual buildings.
thecatfromjapan · 04/01/2021 20:15

angelhirror Yes.

Nurseries are still open? What

TheSunIsStillShining · 04/01/2021 20:15

"If we give these four groups the first dose, we will have removed huge numbers of people from the path of virus, Johnson says."

He is factually incorrect.
In the path of the virus means who are most like to mingle and spread.

The first 4 groups are not those. HCP are, but the rest not really.
This is a spin on reality or again: he doesn't understand how viruses work.

SpicyEnchiladas · 04/01/2021 20:17

How many parents are going to be sending their LO to nurseries?

TheBuffster · 04/01/2021 20:17

Sent schools in for a day to spread it around before a nice long lockdown.

The horse has not only bolted the stable, it's run down the road to the glue factory.

Teachers btw as usual the last people to know.
Husband spent all day planning. Now has to scrap it to do online learning.
So he has to do his job twice. So don't anyone dare criticise the schools, teachers or unions.
Not our fault this government could not organise a nun shoot in a nunnery.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 04/01/2021 20:17

Surprised about the exam announcement. We could all see it coming, but thought they’d wait at least a couple of months before admitting it.

Xenia · 04/01/2021 20:17

If nurseries close parents who are nurses cannot work and people die. Keeping nurseries open to all is essential.

Meredithgrey1 · 04/01/2021 20:18

We will be sending DD.
StylishMummy · 04/01/2021 20:18

I'm stunned that early years and nurseries are staying open but relieves TBH. Childcare and support bubbles to remain in place too

Oodlenoodle12 · 04/01/2021 20:19

@endofthelinefinally

Should have done this before Christmas.
This!

If he had shut the country down before Christmas when they knew about the new variant it would not be crippling the NHS. Boris' actions have caused more infections and ultimately more deaths. Him and those that have their gatherings and those who stand outside hospitals to say its a hoax. None of them care about the rest of us and we will all pay the price.

TheBuffster · 04/01/2021 20:20

@angelhorror

He said 'it is not fair for all exams to go ahead this summer*

So which ones will and which ones won't? More ducking uncertainty.

I imagine pointless ones like y2 and y6 sats will go ahead. After all, they can't lose their nice big stick to beat primary schools with. GCSE will probably be decided by Cummings reading out random numbers on an eye test sheet.

Me.
Thefaceofboe · 04/01/2021 20:21

Keeping nurseries open to all is essential.

Why not just for keyworker like last time? Why should nursery staff be at risk when schools aren’t opening? Insane

SoscaredforJan · 04/01/2021 20:22

If I had sent my children to school today, with all the risk that entails for my family, for ONE DAY of learning, I would be fucking livid!! Doing that was inhumane.

Seasaltyhair · 04/01/2021 20:23

Medical staff don't just have nursery age children.
DietrichandDiMaggio · 04/01/2021 20:26

Medical staff don't just have nursery age children.

Their children can still go to school, because they are keyworkers.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 20:27

Key worker places will be available at schools

MissMarpletheMurderer · 04/01/2021 20:36

Agree, and all the bashing those scared parents got on here from people who refused to see what was coming.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/01/2021 20:38

I have not been the most supportive on here about teachers. Some of the language around parents and children has been pretty off colour.

However, were I a teacher I would be utterly and completely apoplectic right now. What a colossal waste of time, energy, stress and how stupid? FFS, I apologise teachers.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/01/2021 20:39

Completely agree. I am SO pissed off ive just risked my child’s and family’s health for one fucking day of school.

sozzledsantax · 04/01/2021 20:40

Totally agree!
Nursery workers don't tend to have the same sick pay, pay or protection that school staff either.

MissMarpletheMurderer · 04/01/2021 20:40

@2010Aussie

Something has definitely happened to his hair.
I thought that, wig?
