This speaks volumes, just logged in for my regular order edit...

Oh FGS Sad I just logged on to do a shop after seeing this message and can’t get a delivery for another 10 days! Usually it’s a two or three day wait at most. Very annoying. At least I have a slot I suppose.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 17:55

KS1 and EYFS children are the worst ones for not social distancing due to their age, they are the ones you want to be avoiding

I haven’t been able to get a delivery slot since November ☹️

The nation is split in two on all this. The lockdowns are not working and we have lost our freedoms for far too long. Enough is enough even if more die, even if my own risk of death is 10x as high. Liberty is more important, even if double the usual 600,000 a year who die in the UK every year.

TheSunIsStillShining · 04/01/2021 17:56

@MissMarpletheMurderer

Will he have brushed his hair? Who do you think he is going to have for moral support?
a double scotch on the rocks followed by a double vodka for good measure?

Oh no, what a pain! Whereabouts are you? I’m in London.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 17:57

And your children @Xenia? Are you happy for them to die too?

Even if they are now entirely avoidable deaths, given we have a vaccine?!

@itsgettingweird

I e had message today special school opening and can keep kids home if you choose.

They really need to be clear if they close schools as treat special/specialist/PRU as separate. And make it clear what they should do.

It's all very well saying primary do x, secondary do x and college do x. The school is all 3.

Yep, having the same issue with DD’s school, no real conformation as to what’s happening and she’s meant to be returning tomorrow, was told we would get a video sent to us today to prepare kids for changes (testing and teacher changes), so far I haven’t received anything other than a consent form for testing.

@Nousernameforme

Assuming that whatever he says tonight will come into effect straight away. Chances are he will do the bloody stupid thing of locking down from Saturday a whole week of mixing away.
Everything is shut anyway.

They're relying on households not mixing, but if it's not going to be strictly enforced then it won't stop people.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 17:59

Where can we watch his statement?

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 18:00

Schools will only know what is happening when Boris speaks tonight. Local schools spent all inset day today deciding what to do due to staff shortages etc, came up with a plan, notified to parents then got the message Boris is speaking tonight! So back to the drawing board

User158340 · 04/01/2021 18:00

@itsgettingweird

Where can we watch his statement?
Sky Box Office
ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 18:01

I assume it will be on BBC1 at the least, I am assuming other channels will show it too

How many kids will go to bed tonight (between 7-8) not knowing if they're going to school in the morning?

BBC 1 not showing it on their schedule.

I don't have sky box office - unless that's the same as sky news?

I only have free view channels.

chaosisaladder · 04/01/2021 18:04

You don’t have to participate in society, @Xenia. You can just flounce off somewhere remote if you want to. Because this is what it is to be a society, this is how it functions for the greater good.

CanWeHaveSnow · 04/01/2021 18:05

Total lockdown and all schools closed

Been on the news for afew hours now

summersolstice43 · 04/01/2021 18:06

Ive waited ages for Breaking Dad and its cancelled tonight due to the announcement, so thanks for that Boris.

Also, I hope we do go into full lockdown, its the only way we are going to survive this virus and get it under control.

LittleRen · 04/01/2021 18:09

I don't really understand people who say lockdowns don't work. I really don't want a lockdown but they do help in reducing the burden on the NHS, which is the aim.

The aim isn't to stop people dying, it's to help the NHS. Therefore, they do work... surely? It's a cycle, they reduce the burden, reduce the spread... then it grows again.

I think it's grossly unfair that they sent kids and teachers in today, to shut schools... all the household mixing that could have been avoided.

IHateCoronavirus · 04/01/2021 18:11

Does anyone have an idea when the new measures may come into force?

@MissMarpletheMurderer

Will he be on time? What will he say?
I imagine it will be something like....

Er, ummm, er, ummmmmm, mumble, mumble, mumble, u turn after u turn, contradiction after contradiction, generally incomprehensible and then at the end some faux positive clap trap saying we can get through this if we all follow the rules (which change every 2 minutes) and by the spring things will be getting better.

As for being on time I think it very much depends on whether he has finished the last of the Christmas Baileys and after eights.

My prediction for his hair is that it will be elaborately fashioned into a birds nest like structure the likes of which we haven’t yet witnessed. I am convinced the evolving hair designs are to distract us from the inane babbling. I know that it works in my case, I’ve given up trying to understand what he actually means and focus solely on his mop. It’s the only thing I believe about him to be real.
