Is BoJo expected to make an official announcement today or is it just speculation?

Who do you think could do any better?

At this point Jeremy Hunt is putting in a pretty good leadership bid...

(Irony klaxon is broken)

@Helenj1977

My mum heard 5pm today.

I’d be surprised if he shuts schools after telling us yesterday they’re safe!

Has your Mum got a reliable source?

Well after Johnson backed up his statement that schools are safe with zero evidence (other than contradictory evidence cases 50000+ per day and climbing, all primaries in London shut) or additional safety measures to be introduced (rotas/ masks in primaries / vaccine or testing for staff) perhaps, unsurprisingly, the school staff didn't believe him and hundreds if not thousands of primary schools have decided not to open today/this week. Egg on his face anyway.

A PP suggested people are breaking restrictions because they are "bored" Seriously? How selfish do you have to be to justify that?

Families rescued in Peak District after getting trapped in snow

Dozens of people, including a two-year-old child, had to be rescued when they became stranded on rural roads.

Police and volunteers came to the aid of people whose vehicles were stuck in the Derbyshire Peak District on Saturday.

There were similar scenes in Cheshire where 22 people, had to be rescued from stranded cars.

and

The force was critical of the families for travelling into the area, that is under tier four coronavirus restrictions.

It said: "All except one car was from out of Cheshire. We had people from Sale, Stockport and Salford with the closest being Congleton.

"Sadly these people have put all of us at risk today."

Bored.

I see Jeremy Corbyn's white, middle class, groupies are on here today....

QueenPawPaws · 04/01/2021 12:43

@RedToothBrush a local person to me has travelled from Lancashire to Cumbria for a walk and uploaded a pic in a group with 20 or so people. Then complained as someone reported it to the police who turned up (he didn't get fined), then about 300 comments all saying he's done nothing wrong 🤷🏽‍♀️

Unsure33 · 04/01/2021 12:43

@Helenj1977

To those that actually listened to what he said , they are safe for pupils and the figures for hospitals etc prove that young people do not get really ill with this virus .

However he did say it’s the mixing of households that’s a problem . They take it back home to parents and other family depending on the individual circumstances.

So they were having to weigh up the importance of children’s education . Mental health , and obviously parents who needed to work with the current figures .

So not quite what you said .

Norah8 · 04/01/2021 12:43

I'm in Scotland. It should be working but isn't because ais epeople are not doing as they are told.
Mixing outdoors is also banned yet families are meeting with their friends utdoors having beach walks and picnics etc. People are either stupid or don't care.

mayonegg · 04/01/2021 12:44

Who do you think could do any better?

I'm actually at the point now where I wish Nicola Sturgeon would invade and conquer the whole of Great Britain and take charge of this whole giant mess that Boris and friends have created. She'd sort it out.

movingonup20 · 04/01/2021 12:47

Just got a text from Dp who heard from him exw we are going into tier 4 here, she is as tipping us off in case we needed to go non essential shopping (just moved) saying I should go now. She knew 48 hours ahead last time too

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 04/01/2021 12:50

@movingonup20 - did she just feel it in her waters, or has she got a hotline to something somewhere. it's all over the telegraph though, so suspect she is right.

Exactly x

Chimpanme · 04/01/2021 12:50

@movingonup20 - that is already in the news - it's on the links that the whole of England will be in T4 in a couple of days.

I've been in Tier 4 for a number of weeks now and have had no issues with shopping. Supermarkets and anywhere selling food are still open.

Wow, you can see posters’ race and class through the internet? Amazing. Also inaccurate.

Corbin is a useless waste of space. It’s possible to have no time for him or the government fyi. As he’s not even the LOTO any more, I can’t see why he’s relevant to the conversation.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/01/2021 12:53

Do we think that's all schools or just secondaries?

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 04/01/2021 12:54

@JimmyTheBrave @Butterflytown - I mean shielding will be back as a blanket national measure. They need something to create a narrative on school closures about - might be that - or some "new science" that emerges on Tuesday afternoon, so as not to be seen to be responding to union/teacher/labour demands.

MrsVogon · 04/01/2021 12:56

@LacyEdge

Resignation would be nice.
That would be the best thing!
ajandjjmum · 04/01/2021 12:56

The rules need to be reinforced - and if they are not followed, issue fines. We can all find excuses as to why we should be an exception, but the reality is we are not.

And maybe anyone not following the rules should go to the bottom of the vaccination list - not that it would worry them!

PeonyRose80 · 04/01/2021 12:58

@Sassenach85 guessing that is just Scotland?

Mixing outdoors is not against the level 4 rules in Scotland. Two households can meet up outside as long as there’s no more than 6 and children under 12 don’t count in those numbers.
itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 13:04

@SingANewSongChickenTikka

I think he’ll dither about for a few more days yet. Starmer called for immediate action yesterday, he’ll leave a bit of time after that so he doesn’t look like he’s doing what Starmer says.
This.

The problem he's had the whole way through. His ego being bigger than the need for public health action.
