I really thought there was going to be a primaries U-turn today

For once I am astonished that the government has made a decision and stuck to it!

(I mean, it’s the wrong decision, but still.)

It's terrifying. I can't believe that as a nation we are allowing it. That from tomorrow we'll have thousands of mass gatherings - with what's going on with our numbers!

I'm not sending my children in, and no, that's not an easy thing for me to say/do.

WankPuffins · 03/01/2021 15:07

I think there will be many parents choosing to keep children at home.

rosesinmygarden · 03/01/2021 15:08

They do not care how many school staff catch COVID. They also don't care how many kids catch it or give it to someone vulnerable.

They care about letting parents go to work so they can pay tax.

PandemicPalava · 03/01/2021 15:08

I think there still may be a u turn but it will be at 6am tomorrow morning

StormyInTheNorth · 03/01/2021 15:08

There's still time for Big Gav to fire up twitter before 9am Monday morning.

I can’t see this! The egg on their face would be too much!

No, I don't think there will be a U turn now.

Especially after Boris was on TV this morning.

Maybe next weekend.

AaronPurr · 03/01/2021 15:10

I suspect a u-turn is coming. Unfortunately I think it will be late Monday evening.

Thatwentbadly · 03/01/2021 15:10

Let wait and see what happens over the next fortnight before saying they haven’t made a u turn.

triceratops12 · 03/01/2021 15:11

It will happen, just not yet. Give it until the end of next week.

Well there has been here in this corner of North Essex. Our primaries aren't opening tomorrow,/Tuesday except for keyworkers/vulnerable children. Kind of expected it, but gonna be fun taking the SEN child to school with his non SEN brother in tow.
PerfectPearl · 03/01/2021 15:12

I am definitely swaying more to not sending mine in

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 15:13

I'm glad they haven't done a U turn at such short notice. I hope if they do decide to close they will give us more notice.

HibernatingTill2030 · 03/01/2021 15:14

Give it time. 11pm tonight there may be another announcement

On a serious note- I am glad I don't have school aged children and have to make this decision. Do what you think is best for your children and your families, no judgement here if people decide to send them or keep them at home.

Medianoche · 03/01/2021 15:14

The NEU letters to heads will take time to come through and they may force some school closures. Also, several councils have either advised schools to close or left it up to head teachers to decide, so while there hasn’t (yet) been a government u-turn, some schools may still be partly closed, particularly in Tier 4 areas.

SpaceRaiders · 03/01/2021 15:17

I think they’ll be forced to shut schools once parents refuse to allow children in, much like the week before lockdown in March.

Newdonewhugh · 03/01/2021 15:18

School in my Town has literally just sent email out to say they are closing by there own will. Open to only keyworkers. It’s from the head and just say along the lines of “due to the seriousness of situation we are closing this week, will review next week”

How are they allowed to do this? We are tier 4, but no primaries shut atm

They have likely got no staff prepared to work on site.
Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 15:19

Well it'll be interesting to see attendance figures on Friday! I do wonder now if they'll do a blanket closure at all.

HibernatingTill2030 · 03/01/2021 15:20

Perhaps a lot of their staff are not coming in, either due to the NEU or self isolating.

I know what you mean and I think there may well be a U turn in two weeks, the problem is that it will be too late by then!

Are you in North Essex, we just had similar email, but worded to say that ECC have told them to shut
Alwaysandforeverhere · 03/01/2021 15:22

Ours has sent out an email still in but head off with covid Hmm

MissMatchedClaws · 03/01/2021 15:22

They won’t u turn while there’s still a chance of offloading the responsibility onto teachers or teaching unions.
