For once I am astonished that the government has made a decision and stuck to it!

(I mean, it’s the wrong decision, but still.)

@CakeRattleandRoll

Watching in horror and disbelief from Australia. My city closed all schools (except key worker kids) back in March, when our cases reached 1.5 per 100k population. Yes, 1.5. Per 100k.

So thankful for proper leadership from our State premier.

Oh gosh, the difference is like night and day. Well done to those in Australia, quick action which has no doubt saved lives.

My sister in law lives in North Herts and just had an email school shut from tomorrow.

QueenPawPaws · 03/01/2021 18:07

I don't have DC but have seen 4/5 schools in my area announcing they won't be opening

Where abouts please? Town?
Sickofthiscrapp · 03/01/2021 18:32

@NoSuchThingAsCheese Stevenage. Now all schools shut.

Damn. Really? I haven't seen anything? Off to google.

Dontlickthetrolley · 03/01/2021 19:15

We are Tier 4, rates have gone up 20% in the last week but today's text message from the school was to remind us to book school hot meals, so we are still opening on Tuesday, for now.

CallmeAngelina · 03/01/2021 19:39

Our rates are 700/100,000
Apparently it is safe for us to open.

User158340 · 03/01/2021 19:41

@PandemicPalava

I think there still may be a u turn but it will be at 6am tomorrow morning
Reminds me of my workplace who tend to put out bad news via email at 17:05 on a Friday.
Itisasecret · 03/01/2021 19:42

Peston seems to think it is because the Gov want a clear week to assess the carnage. Obviously we all know that will be too late as Christmas mixing starts to translate to hospital admission. NYE infections have been taken into school.

He’s usually bang on and I can see this actually being their plan.

SophieB100 · 03/01/2021 19:45

Yeah, Peston is usually good at predicting this.
And yeah, typical that the reactive Boris wants to let things get even worse before he acts.

Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 19:46

So an announcement Sunday if Preston is right?

Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 19:46

Next Sunday, do you reckon?
TheFormidableMrsC · 03/01/2021 19:58

Those who mentioned Stevenage, all but two have closed I believe. Ours has closed to my relief!

Missreginafalange · 03/01/2021 20:02

Where we are the schools are closed until the 18th as a minimum anyway... don't know why they didn't do this nationwide...

Prestons take on it is worrying...

Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 22:13

Just seen on the DM he may announce further school closures/tougher restrictions tomorrow...the day thousands of children go back. Wtaf. Incompetence of the highest level.

CallmeAngelina · 03/01/2021 23:02

Is there not any way we can get rid of this shower of a government? Vote of no confidence?

Beansprout30 · 03/01/2021 23:35

We’ve had no communication from DD primary so assuming open as normal. DD is isolating so won’t be going back at all this week and I reckon by then they will be closed

Why on earth didn’t they close a week earlier for Christmas, cancel
Christmas mixing and see where we are at now, possibly keep closed a couple more weeks of Jan. Absolute joke. If they’d have got this right back during the first lockdown we wouldn’t be in this mess now

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/01/2021 23:50

I called it for Thursday yesterday. I am standing by that.

Beebityboo · 03/01/2021 23:54

I thought the weekend, but I actually think there's a good chance of it being tomorrow, after the kids have already mixed for a day Shock

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 03/01/2021 23:59

I don't think they'll do it within 48 hours of Starmer and the NEU forcing their hand. They'll be trying to figure out something new that gives them no alternative.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 04/01/2021 00:01

Are you sorted for tomorrow @Beebityboo? Our school has closed so I'm not having to tell lies.
