For once I am astonished that the government has made a decision and stuck to it!

(I mean, it’s the wrong decision, but still.)

IgnoranceIsStrength · 03/01/2021 15:47

Ours had announced it is closing and not even open to keyworkers due to no staff..tier 4 west midlands

PinkSpring · 03/01/2021 15:48

A few around here have made the decision to close anyway. Why they left the decision to Sunday afternoon I don't know.....

girlcrushonvillanelle · 03/01/2021 15:49

I'm not sending My dd in, we are in tier 3 with one of the fastest growing numbers in the country.

xxmyheartxx · 03/01/2021 15:52

I received an email an hour ago saying primary school only open to key workers and will be reviewing on a week by week basis, tier 3 Shropshire.

HibernatingTill2030 · 03/01/2021 15:53

@loulouljh

And to re-iterate whats said above..I only know one parent who doesn't want their children to return. All the rest, which include doctors, hospital staff, stay at home parents etc want their children to return. I don't think people on here are representative of the general view.
To be fair I think most parents want their children to return, but safely. But they've had since March to have made sure that schools were safe and absolutely nothing has been done, really.
Bitbusyattheminute · 03/01/2021 15:55

Primaries are all closed in Wales.

I will be going into work in a secondary for kw/vulnerable kids, if my kids can go to the local hub. They're not telling us until tomorrow afternoon though, so that's helpful. I will also be remote teaching. On the days I'm not in school, I will be remote teaching live. My own kids will be left to try and get on with it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/01/2021 15:56

I'm in North Herts, all but one of our primaries have announced closure today.

Bitbusyattheminute · 03/01/2021 15:57

And high schools would be a lot safer if kids actually did as they were told. You're pretty powerless as a teacher as it is, but repeatedly being ignored by kids when you ask them, politely, to put masks on, has made me so angry.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 15:58

A couple of schools in our county have announced they're not opening. I think schools are now deciding for themselves. No word from DS's school yet.

cdtaylornats · 03/01/2021 15:58

I hope all of those suggesting defying the government are prepared to pay the furlough costs.

GameSetMatch · 03/01/2021 15:58

Well I think everybody receiving emails is lucky, we won’t get any correspondence from our school, I’m really not sure what to do. I sent my children in last time but cases are so high I don’t have any trust they won’t catch anything, although the teachers are good the management team are not.

CaptainVanesHair · 03/01/2021 16:00

I think a u turn might come soon but under the guise of it being the dastardly union’s fault.

DD’s school is opening. The closest other two primaries are choosing to close.

I genuinely don’t know what to do tomorrow.

YoniAndGuy · 03/01/2021 16:00

A huge number of schools aren't in tomorrow anyway - opening Weds here.

Plenty of time for the dithering fuck-up we all know and love so well.

hedgehogger1 · 03/01/2021 16:01

I predict a u turn when cases are at 70k per day. Got to let things get a lot worse first!

bartymao · 03/01/2021 16:02

Give it time, it's only 4pm.

This

I share your frustration, I was told "chill your beans, Miss" by a year 9 student when I asked him if he could please take his mask off his forehead (why? Just why?) and pop it over his mouth and nose. He then ignored me and joined the rest of his 'bubble' who were doing the same. This was in a busy corridor, lining up for class. I despair.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 03/01/2021 16:04

instead of closing the school with secure provisions for children at risk and key worker, entire bubbles and likely entire schools will be sent in isolation a bit later.

Brilliant. It will prove to more more disruptive, more costly and more dangerous. I makes 0 sense.

If only it was just a case or open or shut, but it's not, is it

2020out · 03/01/2021 16:06

I strongly believe they are just waiting to see what happens tomorrow. If lots of schools are closed due to staff shortages, and attendance is awful in the rest, then they'll say that's the reason they closed schools. I presume they believe that more of their voters want schools open than closed.

Fivetoomany · 03/01/2021 16:07

I think my headmaster is pretty annoyed. I love his message sent about 30 mins ago Smile

I really thought there was going to be a primaries U-turn today
Blossomfall · 03/01/2021 16:09

Today 15:56TheFormidableMrsC

I'm in North Herts, all but one of our primaries have announced closure today

Where in North herts? I work in North herts in a school and have children in another and I have heard nothing so far.

Redwinestillfine · 03/01/2021 16:09

The u turn will come next week when Christmas figures are in and the virus has had bit more opportunity to spread around

Velvian · 03/01/2021 16:10

Ours have emailed to say they are open tomorrow and children should attend. The remaining primaries in our immediate area are closing after an emergency council meeting this afternoon. I'm not sending my DC in though.

Kazzyhoward · 03/01/2021 16:10

Of course there'll be a u-turn, but it will again be too late. Just look at end of October, when the "furlough" scheme ended. On the Friday, employers spent their time issuing P45s etc for those made redundant. On the Saturday, they announced the November lockdown and the continuation of furlough, so many employers had to put their redundant staff back on their payrolls so that they could continue receiving furlough. They're idiots.

Jetatyeovilaerodrome · 03/01/2021 16:11

This is bullshit.

Ithinkim · 03/01/2021 16:11

Our school has emailed to say they are closed.

Thank god.
